A look at some "oh baby" facts on this day in rock

Oh, BABY!

Hello and welcome to the "Oh Baby" edition of This Day In Rock.  I mean this in the literal and metaphorical sense as we are going to take a look at rocker parents, as well as a rocker who uses babies in one of their album titles, and then just other facts that could indeed make you just utter the phrase. Today's facts will be somewhat out of order by year as I want to hit on the true "baby" facts first and then will bring the other things into the playpen.

Billion Dollar Babies....and no Tess, I'm not referring to the band, but the album by Alice Cooper...sorry.  In 1973 this album by the shock rocker went to #1 on the UK album chart.  It would also go to #1 in the US and featured the track, No More Mr. Nice Guy.

In 2001, Sammy Hagar and his wife Kari welcomed their second daughter Samantha Pastel Hagar into the world.  She weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz.  Exactly one year later, in 2002, Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix became a proud papa himself with the birth of his son, Makaile Cielo Shaddix.  So, a very happy birthday to those little mini rockers!

Stepping back in time to the year 1998, I'm going to give Jeph a chance at an "Oh, Baby!" with a fact about one of her favorite bands, Type O Negative.  It was on this day in '98, that the band released their first home video After Dark.  As I'm sure she has this video, I'll have to hit her up about it and find out more details about it's contents.

When the name Diamond David Lee Roth is mentioned, I'm never surprised at whatever is tagged along with it.  In 2003, the former Van Halen singer did a week long stint, filling in as a morning DJ on Arrow 93.1, a Los Angeles radio station.

In 2005, and I'm sure it was an exciting "Oh, Baby!" moment for metal heads everywhere, Anthrax announced that they would be reforming for a tour with their Among the Living line-up, featuring: Joey Belladonna on vocals, Dan Spitz on guitar, Frank Bello on Bass, Charlie Benante on drums, and of course the ever unforgettable Scott Ian on guitar.

Our final fact comes from the year 2005 as well, but brings us to a sadder note in music history.  One of the great 70's anthems was Slow Ride by Foghat.  It was on this day, that founding member, guitarist Rod Price died at the age of 57 after falling down a flight of stairs.

I hope that today gives you something to shout "Oh, Baby!" about, and I hope to meet you back here tomorrow for another This Day In Rock.
