March 2009, This Day In Rock
Its All About The Green
Happy St. Particks Day! Today's column focuses on different types of Green!
Welcome to This Day in Rock and I hope today Bings all of you much luck!
Lets start back in the year 1957 and this Green is all about the purchase of land. Elvis Presley signed the papers on Graceland. He paid a whopping $102,500(big money in those days) for the home which he expanded and remodeled before moving in. On the same day that year The Coasters recorded what would end up becoming thier only US hit, "Yakety-Yak"
The Year 1968 brought us The first appearance of the Bee Gee's on the Ed Sullivan Show. They sang two songs.
Moving ahead 10 years we land in 1978. 4 teenagers from Ireland competed in a British contest and won! The band is U2 and they went on to record such hits as;"Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where The Streets Have NoName, and With Or Without You and many more hits.
in 1984 Van Halen hit number one with "Jump"
Our final "bit - o - green" is about the loss of green. After a long string of leagl troubles which caused him to loose a lot of green, Michel Jackson shut down and closed up his Neverland Ranch. Doing that he had to lay of many of his employees leaving a small few to maintain the grounds.
Well everyone that is all for this St. Patty's day edition ! Be safe and Remember Not to drink & drive when drinking that Green Beer tonight! Make someone else do without and make them drive!! Most importantly Rock on! \m/
