It's All About the Guitarists

Happy Monday to you all, I trust that your weekend ROCKED!  Mine sure did 7 times over, but you'll have to watch out for details about that in an upcoming article over in The Local Scene.

Today's look back at this day in rock, ended up with the focus being primarily about guitar players.  Mainly leads, but a fact about a bassist as well.  There's nothing like a screaming guitar, or a heart pounding bass line to really draw you into whatever music you're listening to.

Born today, in 1945, is legendary guitarist, singer, songwriter, Eric Clapton.  Clapton, is the only individual to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times.  With the Yarbirds, Cream and as a solo artist, ranked fourth in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and number 53 on their list of "The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time".  So, a very happy birthday to one of rock music's greatest!

In 1992, the number 1 album in the US was the soundtrack to the movie Wayne's World.  The CD featured Queen's Bohemian Rhapsoday, making the song a bigger hit than when it was initially released.  It also featured tracks by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, as well as a new version of Gary Wright's Dream Weaver.

Wrestlemania XIX took center stage on March 30, 2003 in Seattle, Washington Performing was Limp Bizkit, with new guitarist Mike Smith, formerly of Snot, who replaced Wes Borland.

Our last 3 facts hail from the year 2004, and the artists involved are all on different spectrums of the world of rock, but all respected in their specific genres.

It was on this day that Marilyn Manson fired his axe-man, John5.  John5 was quoted saying, "Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I don't drink or do drugs."

After being accused by a Mississippi man for kicking him in the groin when he was caught stealing papers from a vending machine, it was on this day that 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell was acquitted of assault.

And finally, on this day in 2004, Guns N Roses pulled out of the Rock in Rio - Lisbon festival after guitarist Buckethead suddenly left the band.  However an optimistic Axl Rose stated, “this unfortunate set of circumstances may have given us the opportunity to take our recording that one extra step further.”

Well, here we are at the end of our journey in looking back at March 30th.  I look forward in to finishing off the month of March tomorrow with our final installment of This Day in Rock for the month.  Have a great one!
