Fire, Nicknames, Mooning, and more on This Day in Rock!

Holy Blazing Moonlight Batman!

I know, I have a twisted sense of humor.  But it's one of my better qualities, really.  I honestly can't stand to pass up a chance at a play on words, or puns.  I guess I've read way too many Xanth novels by Piers Anthony, a series in which I have every book but two, and now that I have a new bookshelf, I have room to add them.  However, you're not here to find out about my personal library, you're here to find out what happened in the world of music for March 25th, and I'm more than happy to fill you in.

Today marks the 62nd birthday of Sir Elton John, aka Prince Fooboo, Sir Humphrey Handbag, Lillian Lollipop, Lord Choc Ice, Lord Elpus, Binky Poodleclip, and Sir Henry Poodle.  Of course his official nickname is Rocket Man, although Rod Stewart calls him Sharon.  So, when you sing happy birthday to this singer/songwriter, you have a plethora of names to choose from when it comes to the part "happy birthday dear _____________."

An overachiever is one who according to Webster's is someone who "drives oneself to reach unreasonable goals."  So, what would you consider to be an overachiever in the realm of music?  In 1967 Pink Floyd gave a pretty good example, when they played 3 gigs within a 24 hour time frame, appearing at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor, England, followed by the New Yourker Discotheque in Swindon, and finishing up at the Shoreline Club in Bognor Regis, which technically ended in the early hours of March 26th.

If there were ever a phrase so sum up Tommy Lee, it would have to be "over the top."  In 1990, after mooning the audience while on tour in Augusta, the drummer was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

In 1995, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder endured a frightening situation when he was swept 250 feet offshore in New Zealand.  Vedder who is surfing at the time, was rescued by life guards.

2002 brings us to another singer from the Seattle grunge scene with Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell.  While working on the new Rage Against the Machine project, Cornell walked out of rehearsals, but would later return.

In 2005, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, after rescuing their pets from a fire that engulfed their Buckinghamshire mansion were both treated for somke inhalation.

Well, we have come to the end of the road for today....no more howling at the moon *wink*, time to put up the marshmallows and douse the fire.  But be sure to come back tomorrow to see what's cooking on this day in rock!
