March 2009, This Day In Rock
Gigs, Gold and #1
Happy Monday, March 9th to you. I trust your weekend went well and that you're all ready for a new week of rock happenings here. Grab your coffee and a muffin and we'll get started with today's look at what happened on this day in rock.
Gigs:
We have 2 different gigs that took place on March 9th. In 1973, Black Sabbath kicked off a sold out UK tour that consisted of 8 dates at Green's Playhouse in Glasgow. And in 1981, Robert Plant and his new band The Honey Drippers played a secret gig at England's Kelle University.
Gold:
Queen was a band that you could not compare to anyone else. They were in a class all to themselves and one of music's greatest bands ever. In 1976, their amazing A Night At The Opera went gold. The album featured the hits, I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend and of course the every popular Bohemian Rhapsody.
#1:
The 80's was an amazing era of music. While Metal Hair Bands reigned and ruled, there were bands in the pop vein that were still getting it done. Dead Or Alive was one of the bands and in 1985, their single You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) went to #1 on the UK singles Chart.
Well, I don't know about you, but my coffee cup is empty and there are only crumbs left on the plate, so it's time to refill that cup and face the day. Cheers!
