Drugs, Dirty Deeds and Changes

It's hard to believe that another week has slipped through our fingers.  With the exception of the snow storm that is upon us, it's been a great week of, "Days of Future Past" to quote the Moody Blues.  And today is no exception.

In 1973, The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia was pulled over for speeding on the New Jersey Turnpike.  What would have been a $15 speeding ticket turned into an arrest and $2,000 bail when the officer found several different drugs in his vehicle.  He spent three hours in jail before being released on bail.

One of the greatest AC/DC songs to be released was their album by the same name, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.  Although it had been released in Australia back in 1976, it wasn't until this day in 1981 that the album was released in the US.

While on the topic of "dirty deeds", I'm going to jump ahead in time to the year 2007, when former Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland's wife was arrested.  After the couple reportedly left two luxury hotel rooms vandalized after an argument, police found a bin of smoldering clothes outside their California home, in which she had allegedly burned over $10,000 of his belongings.

Change is inevitable.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  It did seem to work in Van Halen's favor when Sammy Hagar stepped in as the band's new lead singer and it was on this day in 1986 that the band played their first show with Sammy as their new front man.

There are times that musicians also take a change in their career lifestyle.  We have seen this as musicians turn politicians, authors, photographers, and yes some even step over into the culinary world.  In 1998, located in Phoenix, AZ, construction for Coopers'town Restaurant, owned by none other than Alice Cooper, began.

As we close down this week's column, I hope that your weekend is wonderful, in spite of the snow, if you're covered up in it, and that if you are in the sunshine, know that there are some of us who are in envy of you!  Have a great one, see you next week.
