A Little Bit Twisted
Twisted bits of information for your This Day In Rock
Without a doubt, in looking at some of today's facts you can utter the phrase, "that's just a little bit twisted." But then, things aren't always on a straight line path when it comes to rock n roll.
One of the most famous, twisted personalities in US history is that of Charles Manson. In 1970, to help raise money for his defense in the Tate murder trial, he released an album titled Lie. The jacket of the record looks like a cover of Life Magazine with the letter F missing from the word Life. Amazingly, Manson does have a song on Billboard's Hot 100 with the song Never Learned Not To Love, originally titled Case To Exist, which is the B side of the single Bluebirds Over The Mountain, released by the Beach Boys. Manson had befriended Dennis Wilson, drummer for the Beach boys and talked the band into recording the song.
There are many instances of bands getting into altercations with fans. One of the most recent is that of Nikki Sixx of Motley Crew and a fan playing dodge ball with a bottle of water. On this day in 1998, Liam Gallager of Oasis was charged in an Australian court for allegedly headbutting a fan and breaking the fan's nose. He was released on $10,000 bail.
In reading and listening to different writers/critics discuss the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I remember someone talking about people who make it into the Hall numerous times because they were with different bands. For the life of me, I can't remember who made the statement that in making the Hall once, they should not be eligible for multiple inductions. One such example is that of Eric Clapton, who in 2000 was inducted into the Hall for the third time. He had previously been inducted as a member of the bands The Yardbirds and Cream.
Onstage theatrics can really draw the crowd into the show, and work them into a frenzy as Norwegian metal rockers Mayhem found out when they threw a sheep's head into the audience at one of their shows, injuring a fan, fracturing his skull.
Well, there it is, laid out in a sick and twisted row for ya. Have a great weekend!!
