2009 Teen Battle of The Bands
A look at the upcoming Teen Battle of the Bands to be held in Oklahoma City
Music is something that speaks to and influences people on all age levels, and the creation of music is not limited to adults. This was proven with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, when he composed his first work at the age of 5, and continues to be proven with teen rock sensations such as Oklahoma's Crooked X.
Other teen musicians are hoping and reaching for their chance to make their mark on the pages of Oklahoma music history. The Teen Board of the Oklahoma Heritage Association, made up of 28 high school students, is hoping to give one of six finalists their chance at the 2nd annual Battle of the Bands held at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum on March 28, 2009.
This event is not just about the bands who will be competing for the $1,000 prize, but about preserving Oklahoma’s history and promoting pride in this great state, with the proceeds from the event benefiting educational programs at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum. Last year’s board gave more than $15,000, allowing more than 2,000 kids to tour the Museum for free and providing scholarships for several other educational programs.
This year's finalists for the battle of the bands include:
Injunuity, Ada, a Native American rock band
Jordan Bailey, Yukon, an acoustic/pop one-girl band
Forevermore, Ada, an alternative/rock band
Hold ‘em High, Edmond/OKC, an alternative/pop band
The Transit Message, Edmond/OKC, an alternative/rock band
Tritium, Edmond/OKC, a middle school rock band.
Be sure to check back here at roadcrewmag.com, as I will be covering the battle on the 28th, which runs from 5 to 9 pm, as well as interviewing some of the finalists. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event for $8 at the admissions desk of the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum at NW 13th Street and Shartel Avenue in Oklahoma City or by calling 405.523.3208. They can also be purchased at the door the day of the event for $10. For more information about the Battle, Association or Museum, visit www.oklahomaheritage.com or call 405.523.3208.
