Metal Is Back !
Some of the bands you knew "back in the day" are making a come back. So watch out Newbies, Let these guys show you how it's done!
It all started when our editor came up with the idea of a column titled "Whatever Happened To?" I instantly jumped on the idea. I thought to myself, "This shouldn't be too hard". So one by one, I came up with a list of bands. My focus was to find metal bands of past times that were no longer together and had gone their separate ways. I had originally thought the only obstacle I faced was finding out what happened to a member after their band had split. Well I soon discovered I was very wrong. It either seemed like every band I researched had released an album in the last year or was in the studio. That gave me the idea for this story;
So are Metal and the Hard Rock we used to know making a comeback? I know what you are thinking, "Comeback? When did it ever leave?" What I am talking about was think back to the 80's (if you are old enough!). Metal and Hard Rock as a genre dominated Music. MTV actually played more Hard Rock and Metal than Rap or R&B. We had "Hair Bands" some of which used more make-up and hairspray than I did! However, many of the bands faded away with time as did the airplay they all got. This brings me back to the present, at least almost! 2008 seemed to be a big year for Metal.
Some of the biggest Veterans of Hard Rock & Metal released CDs last year including: Motorhead, White Snake, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Extreme, Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, AC/DC, and Guns N' Roses.
Some of these bands are making comebacks and some have never left us. 2009 brings us even more metal to bang our heads to. Doro's new CD goes public Jan. 30, 2009. Lita Ford and Krokus have plans set for early 2009. Megadeth is also in the studio and will release their album sometime in 2009. You can rest assured that there will be many more bands making comebacks in 2009. I am sure this list is far from complete!
In Conclusion, 2009 looks to be a year where all of us metal heads can turn it up loud, throw our fists in the air and stand Proud. Rock on!
So, look for my new column that inspired this article titled, "Whatever Happened To..." coming to Road Crew Magazine soon! You will get to find out what all those bands you used to listen to are up to now!
