Shufflin The Facts

A wide variety of facts for your February 11th.

Shufflin The Facts

Today's this day in rock takes many twists and turns, covering genres from Heavy Metal to Classic Rock, even to Football Rock.  If you're a football fan, you may have an idea of what I'm referring to with that.

In 1963, During a ten hour session at Abbey Road Studios, The Beatles recorded tracks for their first album, while John Lennon was fighting a severe cold.  He did belt out
Twist and Shout, which would reach #2 in the US.

One of the many artists that was played as I was growing up was Bob Seger.  I remember the first time that I heard Turn The Page.  It was because of this song that I chose to play the saxophone in band.  On this day in 1983, Bob was awarded his seventh consecutive platinum US album The Distance by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 1986 the Chicago Bears were on their way to the Super Bowl and their single Superbowl Shuffle by the Chicago Bears Shufflin Crew was certified gold. (Hence...Football Rock)

1992 shows us two different facts.  The world said hello to Justis David, the son of Megadeth guitarist Dave Mustaine and his wife Pam.  And the world would have to adjust to the divorce of Vince Neil and the rest of the Crue.  I use the term divorce, because depending on who you talk to one side says quit, one side says fired.  Of course we all know this was only temporary as the band renewed their vows and is back, rocking harder than ever and is soon to kick off their Saints of Los Angeles tour.

In 2001, Metallica won a battle in the courts against the music site Napster as the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the site could not trade copyrighted music without the owners permission.  In a statement, Metallica pleased with the outcome said, “The court’s decision … confirms that Napster was wrong in exploiting music by artists who do not want to be a part of the Napster system.”

Well, my cat has decided that I have to pay attention to him now, so have a wonderful February 11th and as it falls on Wednesday today...Happy Hump Day!!!  Ciao!
