Happy Birthdays, Gold Records, US debuts and a tragic goodbye

Making Their Mark On This Day In Rock

Today is a happy day.  Why?  Because Christmas break is offically over and my kids went back to school today.  No more rantings of "I'm Bored", "PLEASE MOVE!", "Mom, will you make them stop?" and so on.  When you have 4 boys ranging from, knocking on the door of 16 down to just turned 9, you can imagine what my house is like. Hurricane Cross has left the building .....for now...how long till Spring Break????

Welcome to the first offical week of 2009 and to what This Day In Rock holds.  I'm really excited as sometime between the 9th and the 27th the source I purchased from Amazon.com will hit my mailbox and I'll have an actual hard copy of facts to use as well as cyber.  Yay Me!  But that's not why you're here today, is it?  You're here to find out what happened January 5th on This Day In Rock.

Let's start with birthdays shall we?  We have 3 for today.  The most important?  That of Road Crew Magazine's very own Cinful Cinn.  Be sure to go leave a comment on her blog or her myspace page and let her know how much she ROCKS!!!  Happy Birthday, boyfriend! *wink*

happy birthday Pictures, Images and Photos

The other two birthdays I mentioned?  Well, Brooklyn native Chris Stein of Blondie was born this day in 1950 and in 1969 shock rocker Marilyn Manson entered this world, I'm sure in a screaming rage.  So happy birthday to them and to all of you rockin a birthday today!

Now, onto our other music tidbits for today's munching pleasure.  In a short nine months after being released, Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits went gold.   I have never been a big fan of Bob, although I appreciate what he brought to the realm of Folk Music, but I will say I can not hear the song Everybody Must Get Stoned without singing along.

In 1978, Atlanta got exposed to a heavy dose of Punk, when the Sex Pistols made their US debute at the Great Southeast Music Hall.  And they left their little punk prints all over the country.

And sadly, on this day in 1998, Sunny Bono died from head injuries sustained druing a skiing accident.  After a successful music carreer with Cher, Bono had gone into politics landing a seat in the House of Representatives in 1994 representing Caloifornia.

Happy January 5th to you all...and now, I'm off to go throw cake at Cinn's myspace page!!!
