January 2009, This Day In Rock
In The Mood For A Quickie?
The Rolling Stones Go For Gold, The Day The Music Died, and the Eagles Sit On Top
Today's issue of This Day in Rock is a bit of a quickie. Short, sweet and to the point.
In 1966, The Rolling Stones received their third Gold record for their album December's Children, which included the tracks, Get Off My Cloud, As Tears Go By and I'm Free.
In 1972, The number one song on Billboard's Hot 100 was Don McLean's American Pie. Many assume that Buddy Holly's death represented "the day the music died", however McLean has never confirmed the assumption. The record went on to reach #2 on the UK chart.
I love this song of course, I mean come on, it's a classic, BUT I have to say just as much as enjoy listening to the original, I love listening to Weird Al's parody of the song too.
And finally, in our short and sweet, rolled up and condensed version, on this day in rock, The Eagles album Hotel California toped the Billboard album chart. It's tracks Hotel California and New Kid In Town, both topped out at #1 on the Hot 100 chart.
And there it is. The snack pack, quick munch version. I hope that it'll hold you over until dinner time and that you didn't spoil your supper!!
