Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

I hope that everyone is have a wonderful New Year's Day, and I'm not going to get all motherly on you and tell you to be sure to eat your black eyed peas, because I won't eat them myself.  I can bet you that I will get a phone call from my grandmother, asking me if I have eaten them, just like every year, and of course I will have to give her the same answer.  NO, I don't like them.  Then I'll get the "you need to eat just one teaspoon" speech.  Ok, I know that this is neither here nor there, so let's get to the January 1st, 2009 New Years edition of This Day In Rock.

I'm not a big country fan, but I when I saw this fact, I couldn't help but share it.  In 1953, Hank Williams was 29 years old.  On this day in rock, he had the number 1 song on the Country chart with I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive.  Today, in that same year, Hank Williams died from heart failure while on his way to Canton, Ohio for a show.

Now, I understand people can go without getting tired of hearing their favorite songs, or songs by their favorite artists, BUT there are times that it can be taken to the extreme, where even die hard fans will get to the point of not wanting to hear THAT song or THAT band anymore TODAY.  Such is the case with the next to facts.

In 1971 in celebration of being in music for 10 years, Radio Luxembourg played over 7 hours of Beatles music....nonstop.  And in 1980 Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven got aired for 24 long hours on a Florida radio station as an introduction to an all Zeppelin format.  Can you say OVERKILL?

And wrapping up our January 1st, in 2005 Eric Clapton, age 56 married his girlfriend Melia McEnery, age 25 at a private ceremony.  They also celebrated the christening of thier daughter, Julie Rose.

May your New Year rock!  I can't wait to see what 2009 has in store for us!
