Danzig Headlines Tour - On Paper At Least.

Blackest of the Black Tour - Danzig

This is where I would have reviewed and posted photos from covering the headliner of the Blackest of the Black Tour, Danzig.  (For those of you scratching your heads saying, "who the f*ck is Danzig?", you'll need to google back to 1994 and the single 'Mother'.)  Except Glen Danzig (according to all of the run-around I received) refused to grant photography or media coverage to anyone (specifically to 'online' publications).  So, since I haven't actually seen any photos or coverage of Danzig performing on the tour, I have to assume that it didn't actually happen.. at least no one I know stuck around to see them.  Fortunately for the rest of us though, there were bands on the ticket that were eager to get the word out about their kickass goods.

While we also suffered a still yet-to-be explained snafu with the Dimmu Borgir camp and the mysterious disappearance of our credentials for their coverage, we did get the green light for Skeleton Witch, Winds of Plague, and Moonspell.  You know, it's standard operating procedure for fellow live music journalists to wear hearing protection for shows like this, but I swear to god, next time I'm wearing a ski mask;  This shit nearly melted my face off!!!  I'll give Glen credit *cringe* - he knows how to lay down a gauntlet of supporting acts.

I'd be grotesquely abandoning my duties here if I didn't give a shout out to Mike Gaspar from Moonspell.  Not only does this Portuguese metal band deliver the goods...  (that had me driving around Denver at midnight in my RAV4 looking for a holy water car wash) But Mike made a point to find both Becca and I before the show to introduce himself, make sure we were taken care of and to give us a little insight as to his history with the band.  A genuine class act in an industry teeming with.. ummm.. Glen Danzigs..

p.s. I did manage to find one entertaining Danzig related video, so I hope you'll enjoy it.  -Ryan
