Looking back at November 28th on This Day In Rock

I trust everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving and got their fill of food, football and family.  And if you didn't have a blissful Thanksgiving holiday, maybe the tidbits in today's This Day In Rock will make things all better for you.

When looking up today's facts, I couldn't help but cringe because the majority of them were not happy trips back into time.  And they made me think about the little nugget of truth that someone, somewhere, has had it worse or is worse off than you are.  And in light of the holiday season, we always want to hear the happier stories.  Well, not today folks, because bad times don't pay attention to the calender, and sure didn't on Novemeber 28 in the world of rock.

In 1979, Ringo Starr lost all of his mementos from his time with the Beatles when his home in Hollywood Hills burned to the ground. This happened Sunday, three days after Thanksgiving Day.

On Monday, November 28th, 1987, REM had their first number one single with "The One I Love".  This was before they even signed with record lable Warner Brothers.

I'm not surprsied usually when I see days that have back to back facts with big name bands and artists, but I was shocked when I saw this next fact.  Who would have thought that we would have a fact regarding the band Steppenwolf two days in a row?  I sure didn't.  BUT regardless, on a sad November 28th in 1993, not far from his Santa Barbara home, Steppenwolf drummer Jerry Edmonton was killed in a car crash.  He was 47 years old.

And in 2000, former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell sued his one time manager, and ex-wife Susan J. Silver, claiming that she diverted monies owed to him and his former bandmates.  The amount of the lawsuit was for more than 1 million dollars.

Bad things can happen at any given time, to anyone.  I know of several situations in my own life, or of my family and friends that are not all sunshine and rainbows.  But we go on, we live and hopefully remember to be thankful for those who touch and impact our lives, as well as remember to tell them, because you never know when it will be your last chance to get to.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I will see you next week, on This Day In Rock.
