Two Tiny Facts

It feels like it's been forever since I've been here writing anything.  But then, it was a busy time of year.  Christmas, time with family, and then of course, my youngest son turned 9 yesterday and my little brother's birthday is today.  December is one of the busiest times of year for me, and it seems like I can never get everything done or caught up afterwards.  I have decided to check into Cinn's "After Christmas Recovery Program".  Lot's of Rock Therapy!!!

Wow, December 29th was a quiet day in the history of rock.   I guess everyone was still messing with Christmas presents and hanging with family to do much.  And so, I only have a lonesome two facts for you today.  But just because there are only the two, I hope that you still enjoy them!

1968 marks the date of the first large Rock Festival to take place on the east coast.  Hallandale, FL hosted the Miami Festival (I don't get why it wasn't held in Miami since it's named after the town, but oookkk.) and 100,000 turned out for the event that spanned 3 days.  Tickets sold for six and seven dollars. (My eyes popped out of my head when I read that......oh for concert tickets to be that cheap in this day and age.....)

The most popular bands on the bill included:  Three Dog Night, Chuck Berry, Fleetwood Mac, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, The Turtles and Canned Heat.

In 1980 singer/songwriter who is best known (by me anyway) for the song Reason To Believe made famous by Rod Stewart, died of a heroin overdose in his apratment in Hollywood, CA.  He was 40 years old.
