Sixx AM LIVE IS BEAUTIFUL
Hopping on their run away train of success, Sixx AM releases their Live CD "Live is Beautiful"
This has been a great year for Sixx AM. A band that wasn't even supposed to be a band but, a project with a purpose for Nikki Sixx. Sixx AM has created quite a stir in the music industry. Nikki's book: "The Heroin Diaries. A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star" has sold over 270,000 copies and continues to sell well. He has just released the paperback addition and part of the proceeds goes to the charity he helped establish in conjunction with Covenant House: Running Wild in the Night.
With such an extraordinary tale to tell and such gifted artists on his team, Nikki Sixx, James Michael, and DJ Ashba have created the magic that is Sixx AM. With this musical magic they have brought Nikki's book to life. Make no mistake that this book is Sixx's personal horror story which thankfully has a happy ending. Although it is not Nikki doing the vocals himself, James Michael's voice is so convincing that he has gone through the same pain, suffering, and ultimate conquest of addiction that the listener is pulled into the pure emotion of it all. The haunting melodies, spoken word tracks, and rocking guitar riffs all made the Heroin Diaries Soundtrack a must own CD.
So, the fans demanded more. They wanted a tour and Sixx AM embarked on Cruefest with Motley Crue, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Trapt. Nikki played double duty performing with both his bands and never missed a beat. He showed us both his sides. Allowing James and DJ to take center stage during Sixx AM's set but, giving us his full Motley self during Crue's performance. Cruefest proved to be one of the most successful tours of the summer and for any who hadn't heard Sixx AM before, they had now, and Sixx AM gained a whole new fan base.
It is only fitting to have Sixx AM release a live CD. Many bands can't pull it off. Sixx AM can. James Michael's vocals are pure and spot on. The band is as tight live as they are on disk. I saw them at Cruefest and I was blown away. Nikki chose the right partners in this project. I don't believe he was looking for them based just on talent but, on his relationship with James and DJ. They are friends and you need friends with something this personal. What he also got was two extraordinary artists. "Live is Beautiful" is compiled of several performances during the Cruefest tour. It was produced by Sixx AM and mixed by James Michael. You can buy it alone or in conjunction with "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" if you don't already own it, which I suggest you should!
Sixx AM's song "Life is Beautiful" was just named the number 1 rock song of 2008 by Mediabase. I believe they are one of the best new bands on the scene this past year and I hope to only see more of them in the years to come. They aren't a cookie cutter band and I for one am sick of teen idols, rated G, same old melodic nonsense. Give me something fresh, something raw, edgy, good old rock and roll that I can sink my teeth into. Something I can believe in. Yes, that is Sixx AM! Bring on more music boys!
