December 2008, This Day In Rock
More Than Just "Love Bites"
Things that bite on December 2nd
In looking back on December 2nd happenings, it wasn't a pleasant day in Rock. With the exception of our Happy Birthday for today.
When I was in high school, Def Leppard was by far my favorite band. I had them wallpapered in my room and on my celing. For my 15th birthday, my mom took me to see them in concert. It was my first concert ever and probably my most memorable. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if it had been indoors so I could have seen them in the round. I remember with clarity both Phil Collen and Steve Clark's guitar solos. I bought their book "Animal Instinct" rather than a t-shirt. A tidbit I remember from it, did you know the guys would only eat brown M&M's? I had every album both on vynal and cassette, as this was before cd's were out, as well as a few 45's. And like many other teenage girls, I was over the top in love with Rick Savage. And on this day in 1960 the gorgeous bassist of Def Leppard was born. A very happy birthday to Sav!!
Now that we are done with the "Love", let's get to the "Bites" portion of our program.
On this day, in 1973, after a playing at the Montreal Forum, the members of the Who along with some of their friends, got to spend the night in jail after they caused more than $6000 worth of damage to their hotel.
Now, I don't know which would bite more. Having to spend a night in jail or appearing on tv talk show Geraldo along w/ a country legend. Well, on this day back in 1988, KISS members, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons did just that. They were one the show with none other than country singer and legend Willie Nelson. That day's topic? "Sex on the Road". I know you are all surprised at that *wink*.
And finally, in 1997 during a Rolling Stones show at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan, a fan suffered a fatal fall from a blacony during the show.
Well, I hope that your day doesn't bite, but that you love it, and live life daily to it's fullest.
