December 2008, This Day In Rock
I really HATE the back button
A look back at this day in rock on December 22nd.
Stupid me....I didn't save while I was working, and the midst of having more than one window open on my laptop, I hit the back button on THIS page, the page where I tell you all the little things that I do, and in the midst of hitting the back button, I LOST everything that I had done. And I was in the middle of the last fact which means, I was just about finished. Ready to save this baby to draft. And now, having really no idea what all I had typed before, I will have to start anew. But, I am hoping that it will come back to me while I'm working it up.....again....This time, you can be sure I will save between facts so that I don't lose it all again.
So, with my rant about losing it out of the way, we'll start back in 1946. This is the year that Cheep Tirck's baseball cap wearing guitarist Rick Nielson was born.
Elton John as always been one of my favorite musicians. From the time that I was young and watched his performance on the Muppet Show to present day, I have always thought he was a musical genius. And, I have passed my appreciation for his work down to my kids. My youngest was even gifted with an Elton John's greatest hits CD in his stocking last year. You see, even Santa likes good rock.
On this day in 1973, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was at the top of BOTH the US and UK charts, and BBC Radio 1 did a live broadcast of Elton's show at London's Hammersmith Odeon.
On a sad note, while walking his dog in his hometown of Broomfield, England, 50 year old lead singer for the Clash, Joe Strummer passed away due to heart failure.
Everyone has an opinion about online music downloads and file sharing. But in their efforts to surpress illegal downloading of songs, the music industry fell to a US Courts ruling that internet providers did not have to identify file sharers.
I think Weird Al said it best in his song: Don't Download This Song, and as the embedding as been disabled by request, I thought I would at least hook you up with a link. *wink*
