DBZ Guitars; Dean Zelinsky's 'New Day'
You can't envy musicians looking for gear nowadays; Weeding through nonstop advertisement double-talk and endorsement hype takes its toll on the working pro. These folks need solid, reliable gear from someone that has their best interests at heart. Well, I don't think I could put it any more eloquently than Dean B. Zelinsky did upon the launch of his new DBZ Guitars company August 26th, 2008 when he said, "It's A New Day"...
You may remember Mr. Zelinsky as the founder of Dean Guitars, whose signature V-shaped headstocks have been wielded by legendary axemen such as Dimebag Darrell and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. He has since left Dean Guitars to embark on what he calls, "a shot in the arm to the world of guitars". In that case, prepare to roll up your sleeve and receive the antidote to six-string mediocrity.
Forging ahead with new manufacturing technology, graphics and exotic materials, Dean maintains a stature in the custom guitar building community that has become quite familiar to him over the years... Innovative, not Imitative. As he states in his welcome statement on his website's forum, "my idea is to do for guitar players what the custom bike builders have done for motorcycle enthusiasts". Sweet.
While understandably tight-lipped about the details of his DBZ product line, Dean has been teasing us... Every so often, he will release an image of a new model into the flash intro on his website splash page. Agonizing! Seriously though, the images speak for themselves. It's pure shock and awe.
Dean has also teamed up on his venture with the legendary amplifier manufacturer, Diamond Amplification. If this isn't a match made in heaven, I don't know what is. (or hell, depending on your auditory proximity to the dude that owns one of these rigs..) One thing is for sure, there will be quite a buzz at the DBZ Guitars booth at the 2009 Winter NAMM show. That is where we hope to not only get a close up look at his latest works of art, but maybe get a chance to take a spin around the fretboard a couple of times. Perhaps we'll also be able to obtain some information on a dealership network as well as price points for the various models.
In the meantime, stop by the DBZ Guitars website at www.dbzguitars.com and on MySpace at myspace.com/dbzguitars and take a look around. I also encourage you to sign up for the forum to really keep your finger on the pulse of this cutting edge organization. Just tell them that 'DeanPhotog' sent you! -Ryan
