Our Lady Peace ~ Burn Burn
The Right Stuff, for sure!!!
Our Lady Peace is back with their 7th studio album, Burn Burn, after nearly 4yrs in between discs. It is the largest time span the band has taken to date, but well worth the wait, and yet the shortest track listing for the band at the same time! This disc, having been completely left in the hands of the band themselves, is as basic as it can get with 4 guys in a room, making a rock album they all love and are truly proud of. Every one of the 10 songs was hand picked by only them, and the songs are just as amazing played live as they are to hear on the disc. There is also a deluxe edition available, that includes 2 bonus tracks. Singer, Raine Maida produced the disc himself, in his home studio, while Duncan Coutts (bass), Jeremy Taggart (drums) & Steve Mazur (guitar), lived with him off and on during the process. Maida, who wrote most of the lyrics as in the past, has described this album to be like "Naveed, but a little more mature". Steve makes sure there is no guitar lacking in any song, and the rhythm section is just as strong as it ever was. Raine's voice is as pure and honest as his lyrics and the message in each song is as poetic as it has been in every album. As a band they just seem to be getting better and better with age, like wine or cheese. If that is what maturity does, bring it on!
The first single off Burn Burn is "All You Did Was Save My Life" . There is no set plan on how many singles they will release or even what the next one will be, but if fans have any say, according to posts left on YouTube "Paper Moon" might be a good choice at some point, as it already seems to be a huge hit there. "Monkey Brains" is actually a song about the migration of the Monarch butterflies, but is a pretty heavy song and with a chorus like "they're coming after you, its all you can do" it really can be applied to almost anything in life! Over all, this disc does NOT fail to to impress, especially if you are already a fan of Our Lady Peace. Or if you are simply looking for something slightly different then what is all over the mainstream radio at the moment.
