Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman gets spicy with Road Crew Magazine.

Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman gets spicy with Road Crew Magazine.

RC: Tell me one thing about Theory Of A Deadman that you think your fans would be surprised to know?
TC: That we're from Canada.  People don't really know that...  And that we're just normal, regular guys.  Sometimes people just assume the rock persona is that we do drugs and party all night but we really don't.  We're just too busy...  We have fun, we're just regular dudes.  Watch sports, watch t.v. & shit like that.

RC: How many more songs off Scars & Souvenirs do you plan to release as a single?
TC: Oh I dunno, we're on our fourth right now so we'll do probably...  I would say at least another two...  Which is six, which I think is amazing

RC: I Hate My Life is amazing!
TC: That is the current rock single right now and it's doing really well.

RC: How has this tour been so far and what has been the highlight?
TC: The highlight is probably just being on tour with such an iconic band, Motley Crue.  We've never done a tour of this size before.  We've been out with big bands before, and done big shows before, but never with a band like Motley Crue that's had a history that's spread over decades. That's probably been the highlight - just the whole thing, being able to watch them side-stage, being able to shake their hand.

RC: What is your favorite song to play live?
TC: "I Hate My Life", that one's fun, its just fun to play.  It's not difficult really to sing.  The crowd loves it, so its cool to play songs the crowd reacts to.  Sometimes you can get out there and it can be work you know, because with some songs it's a lot of singing, but "I hate my Life" is fun.  It's just fun to play.

RC: What is your greatest musical achievement as a band or even of your own?
TC: I don't know, I mean everyone's musical achievements are different because some people might think technically.  They might think that they wrote a masterpiece of a song, that they won an award or something.  But for us, I think we're a radio band, and so I think that people look at us being able to have songs that are popular and successful.  I think this record has been the highlight so far for us.  I'd say we've done a really good job making the record.  I think our fans really like this record, so I'd say it's our current record.

RC: From what I have read, you guys put a lot of work into this record.
TC: Yeah, we did.

RC: Did it take a long time?
TC: Um, (pauses) not any longer than any other records, but I think we just dug deeper.  I dug deeper, I spent a lot of time on lyrics, and worked really hard through stressful periods of time... But it all pays off in the end.

RC: That's awesome!  How would you guys want to be remembered as a band?
TC: We want to be remembered as a rock band that is great live.  That is always something that really surprises a lot of people because we have so many songs that get played on the radio and people will be like, "Oh you do that song? Oh you guys you do that song?"  They come to see us live and go, "You guys are great live and you do so many songs that I know".  I think we want to be remembered as a great rock band that can play all of our songs live really well.

RC: Have there been any pranks or stunts yet on this tour that you can tell us about?
TC: Not really, not yet.  We've just been so busy with press and touring.  Ya know we goof around all the time.  Everyday we're always goofing around, but no pranks yet.  We'll probably prank Hinder at some point in this tour 'cause they're so fun to prank but scary 'cause those guys will be able to top anything we do...  'Cause they'll do anything you know, where we won't; We have a limit.

RC: (Laughs)  There's a certain line you draw...
TC: Yeah! They don't have a line they won't cross, so its scary!

RC: What is the last concert you attended as a fan?
TC: As a fan I saw a Joe Satriani in Los Angeles and Mountain opened up, so it was pretty awesome seeing Mountain open for Joe Satriani.  I'm a Huge fan.  I got to meet Joe after the show.  Stu Hamm was playing bass and so his bass tech, Rob was like the tour is almost over and so I called him up and now he's my guitar tech, so it was pretty cool!  It was cool to see that show and then actually be able to pick up Stu Hamm's Bass tech to come work with us.

RC: What do you think of the whole Situation with Coldplay (vs. Satriani)?
TC: Ya know the Joe Satriani song really sounds like a Muzak version of the Coldplay song. It's dead on but I really don't know.  I Love Coldplay too, they're amazing .

RC: If you weren't doing this here right now, where do you think you'd be... What do you think you'd be doing?
TC: I've always been a musician.  I've always played music.  I'd probably have a day job and just play music for fun.  That's how it started, I always kinda did music for fun reasons.  I made demos & stuff.  Me and my Dad built a little recording studio and recorded everything there.  I did everything for fun and never really took the next step.  Our band never toured or played a lot of shows.

RC: Do you ever get to go back there?
TC: No, not really.  I'm never home.

-At this point I decided to heat things up a bit by asking Tyler some spicy questions.  I gave him a choice:  He could answer all or none.

RC: Does size matter?
TC: Does size matter?   Fuck yeah size matters!  Girls will tell ya it doesn't, but I'll tell ya now...  A girl sees a guy with a one inch dick, It's not happenin'!

RC: Do you have a basement and who would you keep there?
TC: Do I have a basement?  I Don't.  Who would I keep there?  I don't know.  My wife always bugs me 'cause there's this model named Adriana Lima and every time there's a commercial with her she's like, "There's your girlfriend!"  How is she... Why is she my girlfriend?  "I know you like her."  So I'd keep her there.  I'd keep her in the basement!

RC: Do you have a porn closet and what is in it?
TC: Do I have a porn closet? No, I Don't.

RC: In what place would your secret fantasy occur?
TC: In what place?  Umm, I Dunno, I'll try to think of somewhere ridiculous. (pauses) I can't think of a place!

RC: Chips, dips, chains and.....?
TC: Prince Albert piercings!

-Theory Of A Deadman is currently on tour to promote their current album Scars & Souvenirs.  It can be found everywhere! I suggest you go buy yourself a copy. You will not be let down by  the incredible amount of talent that this band possesses.  The current single from this album is titled; "I Hate My Life"

Black Stone Cherry Rocks Piere's

By   Wed, Feb 25, 2009

Black Stone Cherry Rocks Piere's

It’s a high energy show. The joint is packed! Bodies are bobbing against each other in a sea of downbeats.

In front of the crowd, John Fred Young is assaulting a drum kit with ferocious style, and Ben Wells works the stage, lost in a whirl of blond hair. Chris Robertson’s vocals have everyone’s attention; except for the pretty girl winking at Jon Lawhon.

This is Black Stone Cherry.

The album is Folklore and Superstition.

And the tour is now.

Ben Wells took the time to sit down with Road Crew recently to discuss life on the road, respecting The King and Folklore and Superstition.

Road Crew: Now it seems you’ve been touring non-stop since 2006. How long have you guys been going?

Ben: The first album came out in July 2006 and we started officially touring in May of that year. It’s pretty much been non-stop ever since. We pick up from tour to tour and then we took some time off to do the second album, which we recorded in March, then started touring again in April. We took some time off right before Christmas. And now we’re back on the road.

RC: Do you have a favorite city that you’ve played in?

Ben: We definitely have our favorites that we go back to. Honestly, this is probably one of our favorite clubs and places to play here in Ft. Wayne (Piere's), because the people here are so nice. And then we love going down south into New Orleans, anywhere in Louisiana, Mississippi, and our home state of Kentucky. But its like going to new places is fun too. We just did Fargo and Bismarck and we’d never played those places. It’s great to meet new fans there. Anywhere we can play music is fun for us.

RC: When’s the last time you went to a concert, aside from your own?

Ben: The last big concert we went to was on the road. It was Aerosmith. We were in California, on tour with Hinder. We had a day off. And we happened to route it out were we could go to the concert. Which was awesome because I love Aerosmith, all of us do. But you don’t get a lot of time to go to them anymore. As much as we’d like to. The schedules always conflict. If a show’s coming near our hometown we’re always on the road. We don’t get a lot of time to go to concerts.

RC: Who do you listen to?

Ben: I’m a huge Elvis fan. So I listen to Elvis and all the Sun Records stuff. I love a group called Old Crow Medicine Show, which is old-time-y folk music. Love the Stray Cats. There’s a lot of different stuff that I listen to. All of us, our musical genres and influences range from really Heavy Metal to R&B. We listen to it all, pretty much.

RC: Have any new artist caught your attention?

Ben: We’re friends with lots of new bands. I think we mainly listen to older stuff more than we do the new stuff. We’ve got friends in Sevendust, Shinedown, and Seether. But we usually find ourselves listening to older blues and stuff like that.

RC: You grew up in a musical environment. Was there one specific influence, growing up, that put you on this path?

Ben: I would say Elvis. I’ve been an Elvis fan since I was … before my parents can even remember. I don’t even know where it started. That was the thing that really got me into music. So I think if I had to owe it all to any one musical person it would definitely be him. You’ve gotta love the king.

RC: Oh yeah!

RC: While you’re touring; does a lot of songwriting happen on the bus?

Ben: Sometimes. If we’re on the road and getting ready to go do an album we spend more time than we are now. This new album hasn’t been out a year. Now we just focus more on playing the shows. But we do have guitars on the bus, and little amps. We’re always coming up with new ideas in sound check. We’re keeping it in our minds for when we have to write again.

RC: Is that how your songwriting process works, a combination of the four of you?

Ben: It’s always all four of us. Maybe someone will have a general idea. Then we all take it, rip it apart, and put it back together.

RC: Sounds like fun.

RC: The new album Folklore and Superstition; the name really epitomizes what’s in the songs.

Ben: Cool. Thank you.

RC: Did a lot of that material come from real life situations?

Ben: Majority of it has. Certain songs on there like “Things My Father Said”, is a song about losing your dad. And none of us luckily have lost our dads. But we have lost Grandfathers. And had friends, even friends that are on the road with now, that have lost their dads at a young age. And it’s sad. We see them go through that. So that is a song for them. That’s kind of a real personal song. We try not to get too serious with the music. We like to have fun. Majority of the album is just about our respect for our history and heritage in Kentucky. And respect for areas like Mississippi and New Orleans that were the beginning of music. Cool stories. That’s what we like to do. Just take stories and put them into song.

RC: The story telling in the album is just incredible.

Ben: Thank you.

RC: “Please Come In”, to me, really channels Led Zeppelin. Was this intentional?

Ben: I think everyone at some point tries to channel Led Zeppelin. But that song was actually totally different when we first wrote it. And it just wasn’t working out the way we wanted. So we arranged it differently and it came out to be that. You know it does kind of have a Dancing Days vibe from Zeppelin. Which people are latching on to. Yeah, I think Zeppelin is one of our big influences. So there’s a lot of them flowing in and out.

RC: I have to ask, for my own curiosity, what’s the story behind “Long Sleeves”?

Ben: A friend of our, who is a retired Sergeant in the military. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Blackhawk Down”, he was one of the people that the movie was about; in the real deal. And he’s a super nice guy and we love him to death. And that song is kind of about him, and written from a soldier’s point of view. And “Long Sleeves” is just a metaphor about always keeping your armor on, and your guard up. Not necessarily wearing a sweater. It just means always be on the lookout and always be aware, pretty much.

RC: Have you guys started planning the next album yet?

Ben: Not yet.

RC: Guess you’re fresh off the last one?

Ben: The cool thing about it is, we’ll still be thinking of ideas when we’re in the studio doing the next album. It’s very spontaneous. We’ve got different ideas we’d like to do. But we haven’t starting focusing in on it just yet.

RC: There’s all the labels used to describe what a sound is. How would you describe your music?

Ben: I don’t know. We try not to put a category title on us. But it's definitely rock. It's energetic and it's fun. It's real and it's true. It is what it is, you know. It's just four guys who like to make music and touch people’s hearts if they can. I wouldn’t really call it hard rock or southern rock or whatever. I would just call it music, I guess. On the new album we have songs from rock to reggae to country and bluesy. It’s just a bunch of stuff thrown into one.

RC: How do you see yourself evolving over the next few years?

Ben: It’s exciting to see. Because who really knows? We definitely set goals for ourselves. We always keep the bar really high. Obviously we’ll be doing this. It’s just at what level we don’t know. It’s pretty much up to the fans. Being on record labels and like that, if people are listening it’s what keeps us going. We’re going to always have a relationship with our fans. We do meet and greets every night. We want them to know that we’re real people and not stuck up musicians like there are in the world today. Unfortunately.

RC: Is there anything you’d like to say to our readers?

Ben: For one, thank y’all for reading. If you haven’t heard the band before, I hope you take a listen to it. And I hope you dig it. It is what it is. We’re not trying to mold into the most popular scene today because we just want to be who we are hopefully you’ll want to listen to it.

I’d like to thank Ben for his time. It was a great experience to talk with him. And take this time to add that you should not only secure a copy of Folklore and Superstition but also their self-titled album, Black Stone Cherry; released in 2006. Front to back, both albums deliver.

Papa Roach's Newest CD "Metamorphosis" Is A Must Have!

By   Wed, Mar 25, 2009

Papa Roach's Newest CD "Metamorphosis" Is A Must Have!

I have personally been not so patiently been waiting for Papa Roach's release of their newest album: Metamorphosis. When I heard the release date was being pushed back I really was chomping at the bit. I was glad they gave us a little to chew on with Lifeline and Hollywood Whore. So, when it hit shelves on March 24th I was ready!

I heard a lot of talk that this would be a new and different Papa Roach just because of the album title. First I would like to say, why make that assumption? Therefore I have already heard negative feedback because their style hasn't changed enough. Well, let me say: Why change what doesn't need fixing? AC/DC is a perfect model for this. They are concise, they are brilliant, they are rock and roll. Yes, experiment with your artistic abilities but don't forget your roots and especially your fans and why they love you. With that being said here is my review of Papa Roach's album: Metamorphosis.

This is a music lovers CD, yes I said it...you love music, you love Papa Roach. They have just enough mainstream songs here and there to grab the attention of the pop crowd but, they have enough punk, heavy metal and rock to sate those crowds as well.

I was very drawn to Carry Me where Jacoby croons "I question my own existence..."

I think the guitar riffs on Change or Die are amazing and the whole song is intoxicating. This is the Papa Roach I love!

Lets not forget that Papa Roach are dirty rocker men and they prove it in "I Almost Told You That I Love You"

I have to give them props for speaking out against violence in "Had Enough" Jacoby sings: "I know you can change the future" that is the truth and more people need to take hold of that truth and run with it.

This CD is an all around success. It screams Rock and Fucking Roll. If that is what you want then go and buy it now. No downloading one MP3...you need it ALL!

They are also currently on tour. Catch them! I saw them last year at Cruefest. They engage the crowd and are full of energy. Jacoby literally jumped in the crowd running up and down the aisles. I think he scared the hell out of DJ Ashba, who I happened to be talking to at the time, when he ran up behind him still singing and jumped on him! Also, Tony Palermo played drums for Papa Roach and Sixx AM...not an easy task playing for two bands back to back.

Doro's Fear No Evil- What Metal Is Supposed To Sound Like

By   Fri, Mar 20, 2009

Doro's Fear No Evil- What Metal Is Supposed To Sound Like
If you want to know how metal is supposed to sound like then pick up Doro's new CD: "Fear No Evil." The heavy metal goddess, Doro Pesch has been in the music business for 25 years and she rocks it just as hard as any one out there!
"Fear No Evil" starts out with "Celebrate-The Night Of The Warlock." This song recaptures Doro's days in Warlock with wicked guitar leads and raw vocals.
A highlight on this CD must be the duet with Tarja Turunen,"Walking With Angels" It is truly one of my favorites as Doro's voice is simply spellbinding.
There is plenty of abraded hard cutting metal to be found on this CD. I highly recommend it for all metal fans and it is a must own for Doro fans.
Doro will be on tour in Europe supporting her new CD. Check out the dates below and her website and myspace pages.

T3 to Make April Retail Debut as Waitlist of Eager Players Grows

T3 to Make April Retail Debut as Waitlist of Eager Players Grows

Dealers around the globe were quick to place their orders following the show and anticipate the arrival of the guitar as their waitlist of eager buyers continues to grow.

Morgan Pettinato from Eastcoast Music Mall, a Taylor dealer in Danbury, Connecticut, has been adding names to his store's waiting list since the T3 was first announced. "We had a Taylor Road Show here not too long ago, and despite having more than 16 inches of snow on the ground, some brave souls trekked through the storm just to see that guitar," he says. "And once the audience heard it, they were blown away. Just about every day someone walks in and asks, 'When will the T3 be here?' People are putting purchases of other guitars on hold and requesting the T3."

At Guitar Showcase in San Jose, California, Jack Van Breen is also experiencing the rush of customer excitement, which he felt himself. "Upon hearing the T3, it just blew me away," Van Breen says. "We had a Taylor Road Show at the store, including a demo of the T3. When it was the audience's turn to play, two different attendees picked up the T3 and within five minutes had decided to buy it. In all my years in the music industry, that's never happened!"

Pettinato and Van Breen are not alone. Since the unveiling of the new model, Taylor has been inundated with inquiries, says Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Brian Swerdfeger. "From its first sighting, the T3 has enjoyed rave reviews from the media and a flood of interest from our dealers and players around the world who can't wait to get their hands on one."

Featuring a quilted maple top with a splash of chromed-out-cool hardware, the T3 offers a wide range of tones and high-performance playing in a semi-hollowbody. The T3 expands the classic semi-hollow sound with Taylor's Style 2 HD (high-definition) pickups, three-way pickup switching, and coil-splitting capabilities that gives players a spectrum of humbucker and single coil sounds in one guitar. On the T3/B, an authentic Bigsby vibrato tailpiece is paired with a roller bridge for smooth functionality and an added dimension of sound.

The T3 and T3/B will be available at domestic Taylor dealers starting in April and at international Taylor dealers by May.

PLEASANTRY LANE STUDIOS GOES RETRO

By   Tue, Mar 10, 2009

PLEASANTRY LANE STUDIOS GOES RETRO

Pleasantry Lane Studios, a residential multi-track recording studio located in the Lower Greenville/Downtown area of Dallas, Texas, recently turned to Auralex Acoustics and Suffolk Studio Design to acoustically retrofit its control room, by giving it a classic 70’s design with a modern, superior quality sound.

So as not to interrupt any of Pleasantry Lane’s scheduled studio projects, Suffolk Studio Design, a premier custom studio designer, lead the expansion by working within a six-week time frame and incorporating its own innovative custom acoustical retro design ideas with several best-selling lines of products from Auralex Acoustics, the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions.  Integrated Auralex products include the company’s Mineral Fiber sound isolation, SheetBlok Sound Isolation Barriers, Pyramid StudioFoam and SonoFiber panels.

In terms of surface treatments that met the 70’s-style mandate of Pleasantry Lane owners Salim Nourallah and Rip Rowan, Bob Suffolk, owner of Suffolk Studio Designs, created a series of custom wood and fabric complete wall treatments that complimented the retro décor.  Shag carpet over bamboo floors, for instance, lent itself to a retro yet acoustically pristine environment.

“As with any studio project we take on at Suffolk Studio Design, every last aspect of the project is customized to not only fit the acoustical qualities that are sought by our client but also to adhere to the aesthetic value of the design of the room in terms of color, fabrics and the décor as a whole,” says Suffolk.  “We are a huge advocate of Auralex Acoustics and are confident that every time we spec their products into a design, they not only sound great, but they look great!”

“At Auralex, we enjoy working with studio designers that understand the importance of acoustics from the very beginning of the project,” says Dave Paxton, director of operations at Auralex Acoustics.  “We are proud to be a part of Pleasantry Lane Studios’ acoustical design and we look forward to working with Suffolk Studio Design on future projects.”

Auralex’s SheetBlok Sound Isolation Barrier is a dense, limp-mass vinyl material that is about 6dB more effective than solid lead at stopping the transmission of sound.  It acts as a thin, dense sound barrier layer in walls, ceilings or floors and is most effective when used as one component of a multi-layered construction scheme.  SheetBlok helps in decoupling floors and walls. Auralex’s Mineral Fiber sound insulation is the best way to tighten up a room's sound.  It is much denser than standard insulation and is specifically designed for acoustical usage.  It yields much better bass trapping, overall absorption, thermal characteristics, moisture absorption and sound transmission loss than any other product on the market.

Auralex’s Pyramid StudioFoam was incorporated into the dropped ceiling while its SonoFiber panels were installed on the back walls of the control room.  Auralex’s Studiofoam Pyramids treat small- to medium-sized areas including ISO booths, control rooms and sound studios.  They effectively kill standing waves and flutter echoes.  Auralex’s SonoFiber is a thick, charcoal gray natural fiber acoustic absorptive panel that offers the perfect solution for projects requiring a Class A fire rating.

About Pleasantry Lane

Pleasantry Lane Studios is owned and operated by Salim Nourallah and Rip Rowan, with combined 30-plus years of experience recording and playing music.  The studio was created in an effort to provide a practical and relaxed alternative to Dallas' numerous, slick, high-dollar studios.  Instead of feeling like you've just stepped onto the flight deck of the Starship Enterprise, Pleasantry Lane feels like home.  Its philosophy is simple: It's the ear, not the gear.  It doesn’t try to dazzle its clients with cool gadgets, tasty cookies, or comfy couches.  The studio simply lets the recordings it makes speak for themselves.

About Suffolk Studio Design

Suffolk Studio Design was founded by Bob Suffolk, a former musician and recording artist.  Suffolk's background and experience in the field of music helps him understand the frustrations and complications that arise during recording sessions and has provided him with the proper tools for designing world-class studios. Bob Suffolk and his staff work closely with their clients to produce a studio design that meets their clients’ personal needs and wishes.  Whether you want a humble home studio or a world-class professional room, Suffolk Studio Design will work with you from conception to completion.  Regardless of size, specialized acoustics and sound are our priority.  Suffolk Studio Design also offers personal interior designed furnishings and vintage furniture for those with a taste for the past. We will help outfit your studio down to the last fitting.  Located in the Dallas area, call us at 214.826.2264 to set up an appointment.

The Classic Vein

In looking at what will be presented today, all of the artists really stem from more of a classic rock vein.  And while some are still producing new material, rocking the world, to me they still fit in the genre of Classic Rock.

While AC/DC's Black Ice has been on the Billboard 200 Chart for 21 weeks, with it's peak in the #1 position, and currently holding onto #84 ( as of March, 28, 2009), to me they will always be one of the Monsters of Metal in the Classic Rock vein.  You just can't get much better with a hard rock anthem, than with For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), released back in 1981.  But it was on THIS day in rock, that the legendary, schoolboy uniform wearing, Angus Young was born in 1959.  So, we here at Road Crew Magazine salute Angus on his 50th birthday.

Without a doubt when you think of the great Classic Rock bands, you can not compile your list without adding The Beatles.  Music would not be what it is today, without the foundation that the Fab Four laid.  In 1964, the band sent a record in the recording industry that may never be surpassed.  It was on this day that the top 5 positions on the US singles chart was a Beatles song.  Can't Buy Me Love at number 1, Twist and Shout at number 2, She Loves You at number 3, I Want to Hold Your Hand at number 4 and Please Please Me at number 5.   They held 9 of the top 10 singles in Canada, and held the top six singles on the Australian charts.

Without a doubt, Jimi Hendrix is one of the greatest Classic Rock guitarists ever to hit the music industry.  And when you picture his performances in your mind, one of the first you think of is when he set fire to his guitar while on stage.  It was on this day in 1967 at The Rainbow Theater that Jimi set fire to his guitar for the first time, suffering minor burns in the process.  Others to share the stage with him that night were The Walker Brothers, Cat Stevens and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Music stirs passion within people.  The are either passionately FOR the music, or passionately AGAINST it.  When a man believed that Jimmy Page's music was Satanic, he rushed the stage during a Page/Plant concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan.  Although Page escaped injury, the security guards who tackled the man were injured.

Classic Metal.  One of the greatest names to fall under that category is Black Sabbath.  On this day in 2004, during a radio interview, Ozzy Osbourne confirmed that he was going to reform Black Sabbath for the Ozzfest 2004 summer tour.

Well, I hope this look back at some of the great Classic Rock bands was entertaining for you, giving you the desire to break out the lighter and not the cell phone at the next concert that you attend.  Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow for This Day In Rock!

It's All About the Guitarists

It's All About the Guitarists

Happy Monday to you all, I trust that your weekend ROCKED!  Mine sure did 7 times over, but you'll have to watch out for details about that in an upcoming article over in The Local Scene.

Today's look back at this day in rock, ended up with the focus being primarily about guitar players.  Mainly leads, but a fact about a bassist as well.  There's nothing like a screaming guitar, or a heart pounding bass line to really draw you into whatever music you're listening to.

Born today, in 1945, is legendary guitarist, singer, songwriter, Eric Clapton.  Clapton, is the only individual to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times.  With the Yarbirds, Cream and as a solo artist, ranked fourth in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and number 53 on their list of "The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time".  So, a very happy birthday to one of rock music's greatest!

In 1992, the number 1 album in the US was the soundtrack to the movie Wayne's World.  The CD featured Queen's Bohemian Rhapsoday, making the song a bigger hit than when it was initially released.  It also featured tracks by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, as well as a new version of Gary Wright's Dream Weaver.

Wrestlemania XIX took center stage on March 30, 2003 in Seattle, Washington Performing was Limp Bizkit, with new guitarist Mike Smith, formerly of Snot, who replaced Wes Borland.

Our last 3 facts hail from the year 2004, and the artists involved are all on different spectrums of the world of rock, but all respected in their specific genres.

It was on this day that Marilyn Manson fired his axe-man, John5.  John5 was quoted saying, "Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I don't drink or do drugs."

After being accused by a Mississippi man for kicking him in the groin when he was caught stealing papers from a vending machine, it was on this day that 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell was acquitted of assault.

And finally, on this day in 2004, Guns N Roses pulled out of the Rock in Rio - Lisbon festival after guitarist Buckethead suddenly left the band.  However an optimistic Axl Rose stated, “this unfortunate set of circumstances may have given us the opportunity to take our recording that one extra step further.”

Well, here we are at the end of our journey in looking back at March 30th.  I look forward in to finishing off the month of March tomorrow with our final installment of This Day in Rock for the month.  Have a great one!

Drugs, Dirty Deeds and Changes

It's hard to believe that another week has slipped through our fingers.  With the exception of the snow storm that is upon us, it's been a great week of, "Days of Future Past" to quote the Moody Blues.  And today is no exception.

In 1973, The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia was pulled over for speeding on the New Jersey Turnpike.  What would have been a $15 speeding ticket turned into an arrest and $2,000 bail when the officer found several different drugs in his vehicle.  He spent three hours in jail before being released on bail.

One of the greatest AC/DC songs to be released was their album by the same name, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.  Although it had been released in Australia back in 1976, it wasn't until this day in 1981 that the album was released in the US.

While on the topic of "dirty deeds", I'm going to jump ahead in time to the year 2007, when former Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland's wife was arrested.  After the couple reportedly left two luxury hotel rooms vandalized after an argument, police found a bin of smoldering clothes outside their California home, in which she had allegedly burned over $10,000 of his belongings.

Change is inevitable.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  It did seem to work in Van Halen's favor when Sammy Hagar stepped in as the band's new lead singer and it was on this day in 1986 that the band played their first show with Sammy as their new front man.

There are times that musicians also take a change in their career lifestyle.  We have seen this as musicians turn politicians, authors, photographers, and yes some even step over into the culinary world.  In 1998, located in Phoenix, AZ, construction for Coopers'town Restaurant, owned by none other than Alice Cooper, began.

As we close down this week's column, I hope that your weekend is wonderful, in spite of the snow, if you're covered up in it, and that if you are in the sunshine, know that there are some of us who are in envy of you!  Have a great one, see you next week.

Requiem

Music is the soundtrack of our lives.  It says much about who we are.  There is music that pours out of us when our child's first cry is sounded, although only few of us put that music to paper.  There is music that pour out of us through the different stages of our lives, and there is music that pours from us when we lose someone we love.  I know this all too well as tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of my Grandaddy's death.  Music is in the very fabric of life from it's beginning, to it's ending.

If you watched the video at the top of today's article, you will or should instantly recognize Trans Siberian Orchestra.  I have had the opportunity to see them in concert twice, own all of their CDs and am waiting anxiously for the release of Night Castle.  However, there are many people who are only familiar with their Christmas music and haven't experienced Beethoven's Last Night.  This is a CD that honors one of the world's greatest composers.  His music is recognized by everyone who hears it, even if that ear can not put his name to it.  And it was on this day in 1827 this musical genius, Ludwig van Beethoven, slipped from this world into death.

175 years later, in 2002 the music world would lose another great musician, when former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo, lost his life to cancer at the age of 51.  He is also known for the time he spent with Motley Crue in 2000, recording on the band's album New Tattoo.

Today's look back in the world of music is not just about death, but about life as well.  So, it is with great pleasure that I give a happy birthday to one of Rock's greatest and most influential front men,  Mr. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.  Born in 1948, he turns 61 today.

With their signing to Geffen Records on this day in 1986, Guns N Roses experienced their "birth" into the music industry.  GnR has been the topic of many discussions over the past couple of days with the announcement that DJ Ashba has signed on as lead guitar for the band.  And while there are many opinions to this development, their music from Appetite For Destruction is still a CD that is a driving force.

Life holds to it's course and we ride it's currents.  Sometimes we float along calmly and other times we are caught in it's rapids and waves, but around every corner is music from it's beginning, to it's end.

AURALEX SHOWCASES NEW DESIGN SERIES AT MUSIKMESSE 2009

By   Wed, Mar 25, 2009

Auralex’s HD Series functions as a highly decorative room décor system that combines Auralex’s unsurpassed acoustical qualities with a unique aesthetic approach.  The complete line of Auralex’s HD Series includes SonoSuede HD, SubDude HD, SpeakerDudes HD, SonoFlat HD Systems and Acoustical Drop HD, which will be on display at Musikmesse 2009 (Booth D47A in Hall 5.1).

“As the industry moves more and more towards home recording environments, we continue to expand our product lines to reflect this trend,” says Dave Paxton, director of operations for Auralex Acoustics.  “Our new HD Series is the perfect product for any home studio or any commercial studio that is looking for that homely feel, as these products function as a world-class acoustical treatment while offering exceptional design and décor options.”

SonoSuede HD is a fabric-covered absorption panel designed to reduce slap and flutter echoes.  Modeled after Auralex’s SonoSuede HT and Pro Systems, SonoSuede HD offers two unique packages (1212 and 1218) giving users the ability to mix and match style, size and color.  The system’s unique mounting blocks provide superior acoustic and exceptional aesthetic benefits.

SubDude HD is a highly effective device that floats a subwoofer or speaker to yield nearly total acoustic isolation by effectively reducing secondary resonances.  Subwoofers create low frequencies that can be felt in the form of vibrations on both the floor and nearby objects, which is referred to as secondary resonance.  By decoupling your subwoofer (separating the connection between the speaker and the floor), the result is a cleaner response in the low frequency range.

SpeakerDude HD provides isolation for speakers by decoupling speakers from the surface in which they rest upon.  This results in a more pure, accurate tone.  The SpeakerDude HD wedge allows users to tilt the speaker to listening angles of 4° and -4°. SpeakerDude HD is not restricted to just speakers, but can isolate any delicate audio electronics such as CD burners, laptops and turntables.

SonoFlat HD System is now available in 1'x1'x2' panels and in standard charcoal, purple and burgundy colors.  The SonoFlat HD System can reduce reflections and reverberation, while offering a unique, sophisticated look for a cost-effective acoustical solution. SonoFlat HD Systems can be used as a stand-alone acoustical treatment or can be used to enhance other Auralex products.

Acoustical Drop HD can easily be installed into new and existing drop and suspending ceiling grids, and is ideal for upgrading in-room sound quality by controlling ambient noise and reducing noise transmission.  The fabric-faced acoustical panels, which are available in standard ceiling grid sizes (23.875" x 23.875"x 1" and 23.875"x 47.875"x 1"), can be customized in terms of size and thickness to meet any project’s requirements.

Holy Blazing Moonlight Batman!

Holy Blazing Moonlight Batman!

I know, I have a twisted sense of humor.  But it's one of my better qualities, really.  I honestly can't stand to pass up a chance at a play on words, or puns.  I guess I've read way too many Xanth novels by Piers Anthony, a series in which I have every book but two, and now that I have a new bookshelf, I have room to add them.  However, you're not here to find out about my personal library, you're here to find out what happened in the world of music for March 25th, and I'm more than happy to fill you in.

Today marks the 62nd birthday of Sir Elton John, aka Prince Fooboo, Sir Humphrey Handbag, Lillian Lollipop, Lord Choc Ice, Lord Elpus, Binky Poodleclip, and Sir Henry Poodle.  Of course his official nickname is Rocket Man, although Rod Stewart calls him Sharon.  So, when you sing happy birthday to this singer/songwriter, you have a plethora of names to choose from when it comes to the part "happy birthday dear _____________."

An overachiever is one who according to Webster's is someone who "drives oneself to reach unreasonable goals."  So, what would you consider to be an overachiever in the realm of music?  In 1967 Pink Floyd gave a pretty good example, when they played 3 gigs within a 24 hour time frame, appearing at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor, England, followed by the New Yourker Discotheque in Swindon, and finishing up at the Shoreline Club in Bognor Regis, which technically ended in the early hours of March 26th.

If there were ever a phrase so sum up Tommy Lee, it would have to be "over the top."  In 1990, after mooning the audience while on tour in Augusta, the drummer was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

In 1995, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder endured a frightening situation when he was swept 250 feet offshore in New Zealand.  Vedder who is surfing at the time, was rescued by life guards.

2002 brings us to another singer from the Seattle grunge scene with Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell.  While working on the new Rage Against the Machine project, Cornell walked out of rehearsals, but would later return.

In 2005, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, after rescuing their pets from a fire that engulfed their Buckinghamshire mansion were both treated for somke inhalation.

Well, we have come to the end of the road for today....no more howling at the moon *wink*, time to put up the marshmallows and douse the fire.  But be sure to come back tomorrow to see what's cooking on this day in rock!

This Day In Rock,

Oh, BABY!

Tue, Mar 24, 2009

Oh, BABY!

Hello and welcome to the "Oh Baby" edition of This Day In Rock.  I mean this in the literal and metaphorical sense as we are going to take a look at rocker parents, as well as a rocker who uses babies in one of their album titles, and then just other facts that could indeed make you just utter the phrase. Today's facts will be somewhat out of order by year as I want to hit on the true "baby" facts first and then will bring the other things into the playpen.

Billion Dollar Babies....and no Tess, I'm not referring to the band, but the album by Alice Cooper...sorry.  In 1973 this album by the shock rocker went to #1 on the UK album chart.  It would also go to #1 in the US and featured the track, No More Mr. Nice Guy.

In 2001, Sammy Hagar and his wife Kari welcomed their second daughter Samantha Pastel Hagar into the world.  She weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz.  Exactly one year later, in 2002, Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix became a proud papa himself with the birth of his son, Makaile Cielo Shaddix.  So, a very happy birthday to those little mini rockers!

Stepping back in time to the year 1998, I'm going to give Jeph a chance at an "Oh, Baby!" with a fact about one of her favorite bands, Type O Negative.  It was on this day in '98, that the band released their first home video After Dark.  As I'm sure she has this video, I'll have to hit her up about it and find out more details about it's contents.

When the name Diamond David Lee Roth is mentioned, I'm never surprised at whatever is tagged along with it.  In 2003, the former Van Halen singer did a week long stint, filling in as a morning DJ on Arrow 93.1, a Los Angeles radio station.

In 2005, and I'm sure it was an exciting "Oh, Baby!" moment for metal heads everywhere, Anthrax announced that they would be reforming for a tour with their Among the Living line-up, featuring: Joey Belladonna on vocals, Dan Spitz on guitar, Frank Bello on Bass, Charlie Benante on drums, and of course the ever unforgettable Scott Ian on guitar.

Our final fact comes from the year 2005 as well, but brings us to a sadder note in music history.  One of the great 70's anthems was Slow Ride by Foghat.  It was on this day, that founding member, guitarist Rod Price died at the age of 57 after falling down a flight of stairs.

I hope that today gives you something to shout "Oh, Baby!" about, and I hope to meet you back here tomorrow for another This Day In Rock.

This Day In Rock,

Honey, I'm Home

Honey, I'm Home

Greetings my children!  Have you missed me?  I sure missed being here, but I will say it was nice to take a break and venture out into the real world and play, and just for the record...bear slobber is really gross and leaves your hands slimy!  I also want to extend a HUGE thank you to Jenny for covering for me while I was away.  She did a great job and I'm glad she enjoyed diving into the world of music past, digging up the goodies and sharing them with you.  I promise that I won't be going anywhere for awhile, so you are stuck with me again, and I've very glad I didn't have to arm wrestle Jenny to get my column back...I so suck and arm wrestling and I would have lost. Well, enough of the prelims, let's get into the music shall we?

We do have a birthday today.  Born in 1949, Ric Ocasek of The Cars turns 60 today.  Growing up in the 80's, The Cars was one of my favorite bands, with Dangerous Type being one of my favorite songs by the group.  A very happy birthday to Ric!!

In 1985, my younger brother was 6 years old and the T-Ball King of Waynoka, Oklahoma.  In fact, when he would hit the ball, he would take his cap off, wave it at the crowd and run the bases backwards.  That same year, John Fogerty, formerly of CCR had his album Centerfield hit #1 on the US album chart.  To this day, my mom can't hear that song without thinking of McClain. "A-roundin’ third, and headed for home, it’s a brown-eyed handsome man"

While I was exposed to music from all different genres growing up, it has only been since I've been an adult that I've had an appreciation to some bands.  The Who is one of those.  It has taken me several years to really like their music and not just appreciate what they have given to the music industry.  If you have read or heard anything about Roger Daltery, you will know how amazing of an artist he really is.  In 1987, he contributed to The Lost Boys soundtrack with the song Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.
Now, let me clarify that THIS fact is NOT about The Who, Roger Daltery, or The Lost Boys.  I have said all of that to set the stage and let you know that while this fact is about that song, it is not his version that is the true focus.  His version is the one that I prefer over the release performed on this day, in 1991 by Elton John and George MichaelThe duo performed the song at Wembley Arena in London, and would release it as a single that would top the charts in both the US and the
UK.

There is a saying that goes, "Marriage is a great institution, but who wants to be in an institution." In 2002, Dusty Hill, bassist for ZZ Top and actress Charleen Chuck McCrory, his long time girlfriend, were married at Tony's Ballroom in Huston, TX before 200 guests.

Well, we have arrived at our final fact for the day.  In 1965, Paul Simon recorded an album that up to this point had never surfaced in America.  That lost album, The Paul Simon Songbook was officially released by Columbia/Legacy on this day in 2004.  It had previously been available only as an import and was long out of print.

Well, there it is, all laid out in a nice little row for you, free of bear slobber.  Again, it's great to be back in the saddle and I can't wait to see what is in store for tomorrow!

Great Songs And a Tremondus Loss

Wed, Mar 18, 2009

Hello Everyone! Happy March 19 to everyone. Are you missing Lis yet? I sure am and I'll bet you are too. I am having so much fun doing her column I may not let her have it back! I'm just kidding! I am sure that as soon as she is well rested she will be back full force. Now lets get down to business.

Lets start in the year 1964 with the Beatles. They swapped number one singles when " she Loves You" Knocked "I Want To Hold Your Hand" out of the number one spot.

Moving on down the road in 1974 Another swap occured when the band Jefferson Airplane swapped names and Became Jefferson Starship. They also announced a new lineup which included:Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Johnny Barbata on Drums, david Freeburg, Peter Kaukonen, Craig Chaquico, and Papa John Creach.

This Day in 1982 Rock N' Roll Suffered an incredibly tremendous loss. This happened when the airplane that was carrying Randy Rhoades crashed into a house while attempting to "buzz" the bus that Ozzy Osbourne was riding in. Randy was only 25 years young and will never be forgotten.

Backon to happier news. On this very day in 1982 "I Love Rock N' Roll" Hit number one on the US charts and did not budge for SEVEN weeks!

After learning that fact I will be singing that song for days! Time to wind down for today. until tommorw, Rock On! \m/

Wax recordings, The Beatles and the Queen of Disco!

Wax recordings, The Beatles and the Queen of Disco!

Hello everyone ! i hope your St Patty's day was a lucky one! I sure enjoyed mine!

Lets jump back to the beginning of last century for our first fact. Enric Caruso was paid $500.00 to record 10 songs on Wax. In those days that was a lot of money. This record deal would earn him the title of the first recording star ever! The Black & white picture is of him with his piano!

On this day in 1967 the beatles "Penny Lane" went to #1 on the US charts. This was their thirteenth american hit

in 1992 Donna Summer got her own Star on the hollywood walk of fame. I remember hearing....... Um Oh never mind I'm giving my age away!

in 2002 The Ramones were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Thats all for today folks I hope you have a great afternoon and I will see you tommorw! As always Rock On!! \m/

Its All About The Green

Welcome to This Day in Rock and I hope today Bings all of you much luck!

Lets start back in the year 1957 and this Green is all about the purchase of land. Elvis Presley signed the papers on Graceland. He paid a whopping $102,500(big money in those days) for the home which he expanded and remodeled before moving in. On the same day that year The Coasters recorded what would end up becoming thier only US hit, "Yakety-Yak"

The Year 1968 brought us The first appearance of the Bee Gee's on the Ed Sullivan Show. They sang two songs.

Moving ahead 10 years we land in 1978. 4 teenagers from Ireland competed in a British contest and won! The band is U2 and they went on to record such hits as;"Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where The Streets Have NoName, and With Or Without You and many more hits.

in 1984 Van Halen hit number one with "Jump"

Our final "bit - o - green" is about the loss of green. After a long string of leagl troubles which caused him to loose a lot of green, Michel Jackson shut down and closed up his Neverland Ranch. Doing that he had to lay of many of his employees leaving a small few to maintain the grounds.

Well everyone that is all for this St. Patty's day edition ! Be safe and Remember Not to drink & drive when drinking that Green Beer tonight! Make someone else do without and make them drive!! Most importantly Rock on! \m/

This Day In Rock,

Cowboys ,Dragons and Rock & Roll!

Mon, Mar 16, 2009

Greetings Fellow Music lovers! Welcome to this Monday edition of This Day In Rock.

For our first fact we travel back to 1955 when all the young boys Loved playing Cowboys & Indians! I am sure this is why “The Ballad Of Davy Crockett Climbed to #1 on the  charts. The song stayed there for five whole weeks!

Now for a bit of controversy. On this day in 1963 Puff the Magic Dragon Was Released. Although I wasn’t born when this was released the movie was one of my childhood favorites. The song written by Peter Paul & Mary was written about a young boy growing up. It was banned by some radio stations because they believed it was about doing drugs.

Lets move on all the way to 1979. The Palladium sold out to a metal Band who wasn’t even signed! In case you don’t already know it was Twisted Sister! I’ll be back tommorw to serve up some St Patty’s day surprises. Until then, Rock on! \m/

Friday the 13th and Other Horror Music

Welcome to another Friday the 13th.  A snowy, day as I type this, if you live anywhere near me, and I can honestly tell you that I'm not happy about that, as I am allergic to snow.  I want to start off by letting you know that I will be gone all next week due to Spring  Break, but never fear, Jenny is going to keep you company until I get back, and hopefully, spring will have shown up by then.

I've decided to take a little different twist for today's This Day in Rock.  And instead of looking at facts that happened on this particular date, I wanted to take the date itself and centralize this article around it's theme.  Friday the 13th....an other horror titles, and the music that goes with them.

Music is an intricate part of any movie as it sets the mood.  A scene of a girl running through the woods, trying to escape the maniac who's planning on butchering her just wouldn't be the same without the eerie music to go with it.  If you've ever watch "making of" clips to a movie, where it shows the scene as it was filmed without the music overlay, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Friday the 13th's theme is a great example of intense, eerie music to encompass the movie.  And as soon as you hear it, you know which movie that it belongs to.

As each movie and it's monster is unique, so is the theme that accompanies that particular pairing.  For example, when you think of Nightmare On Elm Street, you will not think of the theme from Psycho.  The creepy harpsichord and scratchy chords and echoing slaps clue you right in as to which film you're watching.

Theme songs for horror flicks and their spoofs ring in our minds, and are just as memorable as the film itself, if not more so.  And while there are movies that we have not seen, we will have heard and be familiar with their themes.

Rock music has always played an key part in movies.  And when songs are aired on the radio, it will take us back to movies that they've been in.  Doken is a prime example of this, as every time I hear the song Dream Warriors, I instantly think of Nightmare On Elm Street 3.

Take some time today to reminisce through your memories of horror movie music.  Dig out the old VHS tapes, grab some popcorn and relive some of those great horror flicks or not so great horror flicks on this Friday the 13th.  Lock the doors, don't answer the phone, and don't go to sleep.  I hope to find you all safe and sound upon my return on the 23rd.  Have a great spring break!

A Melting Pot of Musical Goodness

A Melting Pot of Musical Goodness

Coming from the background that I do, I am an avid fan of musicals.  Yep, everything from The Wizard of Oz and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers to Grease and the racy Cabaret.  Two of our facts amazingly encompass a mother and daughter, who each performed in one of the musicals previously mentioned.

Today, in 1946, Liza Minnelli, who was a singer, actress and dancer was born.  She starred in the 1970 film Cabaret and is the daughter of Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli.  She turns 63 today.

Her mother, Judy Garland is best known for her role as Dorthy in the legendary Wizard of Oz.  In 2001, her rendition of Over the Rainbow, was voted Song Of The Century by fans in a poll conducted by the Recording Industry Association of America.  At #16 was Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones and I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles was #26.

Getting back into the order of things, let's go back to 1969.  It was then that late Beatle George Harrison and his wife Patti were arrested in Esher, Surrey when authorities found 120 joints in their house.

1983 scored Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler her only #1 UK single, Total Eclipse of the Heart.

In 1996, legendary rockers KISS released their album Unplugged.

As a parent, and having a teenage son, I don't approve that the schools have the right to such extreme censorship when it comes to the T-shirts that kids are allowed to wear to school.  I understand if the shirt portrays vulgar language, but when they are wearing a concert T, I think it's taken a bit too far.  When I was in high school, Metallica and Guns N Roses T-shirts were not allowed.  In 1998, after a high school suspended a student for wearing a Korn T-shirt, the band served a cease-and-desist demand to the Michigan school, the school district and the assistant principal.

While on the topic of censorship, let's take a look at 2003, when The Rolling Stones toured in China.  The Chinese government forbid the band from playing the songs Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Beast of Burden and Let's Spend the Night Together while in the country for their April Tour.

And finally, in 2004, Blink 182's drummer Travis Barker caught a bad break, literally, when he broke his right foot, causing the band to have to cancel their Australian tour as well as several dates in Japan and two in Hawaii.

Well, I hope that you found this melting pot a fondue of goodness and that you enjoyed the feast.  See you tomorrow!!

EPICA - BEGINS RECORDING NEW ALBUM

EPICA - BEGINS RECORDING NEW ALBUM

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal act EPICA entered Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany on Monday, March 2 with producer Sascha Paeth to begin recording the follow-up to 2007's The Divine Conspiracy, tentatively due before the end of the year via Nuclear Blast Records.

According to the band, drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek "is doing great so far. The beast already nailed five songs; he's been drumming for about 12 hours [on Tuesday]!"

A short video clip from the recording sessions can be viewed here.

Vocalist Simone Simons previously stated about EPICA's new material, "It is so exciting! I love the new songs and can't wait to play them live."

The Divine Conspiracy was EPICA's first full-length concept album. According to the band, "This concept deals with the theory that, as a test, God created all kinds of different religions and released those upon humanity to see if they would be able to find the true nature of them, realizing that in all religions it is actually the same. But there's more to it; it also concludes the 'Embrace That Smothers' concept that could already be found on [2003's] The Phantom Agony."

Some Doors Open, Some Doors Close

Some Doors Open, Some Doors Close

As we go through life, we will walk through open doors, and be re-routed by closed ones.  Musicians face many doors in the trek to musical success, and depending on which ones they go through mold and shap their identities, just like the doors in our personal lives do for us.

In 1971 The Doors legendary singer Jim Morrison booked into The Hotel George's in Paris.  Within the wee, he moved into an apartment at 17 Rue Beautreillis, living in the city until his death on July 3rd of the same year.

In 1971, TV aired a series about a family rock band called The Partridge Family.  This fictional band, featuring David Cassidy on vocals was presented an open door to music fame, and would received a Gold record for Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted on this day in rock.  They would receive 5 Top 20 hits, this song being their 2nd.

1978 was an open door for Meat Loaf, as his album Bat Out Of Hell hit the UK charts, remaining there for 416 weeks and selling over 2 million copies.

In 1996, promoters who tried to get a Beatles reunion tour going was met with a closed door as the surviving members, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr turned down their $225 million offer.

Having just walked through the door of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, AC/DC performed a one-off show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York.

Our final fact is about a literal door.  A front door to be exact, belonging to the childhood home of Ozzy Osbourne, in Birmingham.  The door was put up for sale, due to the current owner growing tired of fans defacing the door.  Owner Ali Mubarrat said over the years it had become a pilgrimage destination, and was now auctioning the door on eBay, donating the money to charity.

I hope today offers you many open doors to success, and closes the doors that would bring you harm.  Have a great day!

Arrested Developments

ARRESTED:

   1. To stop; check: a brake that automatically arrests motion; arrested the growth of the tumor.
   2. To seize and hold under the authority of law.
   3. To capture and hold briefly (the attention, for example); engage.
   4. To undergo cardiac arrest: The patient arrested en route to the hospital.
   5. The act of detaining in legal custody: the arrest of a criminal suspect.
   6. The state of being so detained: a criminal under arrest.
   7. A device for stopping motion, especially of a moving part.
   8. The act of stopping or the condition of being stopped.

As you can see, there are many different definitions for the word arrested, and the word can be used to surmise several of todays facts as we take a look at what happened on March 10th in the realm of music.  But before we look at those arrested developments, let's tak a look at the birthday calendar, the R&R Hall of Fame, and an album worth taking a peek at.

One of the world's greatest classic rock bands, and as when I use statements like that, it is my personal opinion, is Boston.  Their album Third Stage blew many a speaker in my house, as the track The Launch would shake every window in the house as it played.  This was of course from vynal because, as to quote Nicholas Cage in the movie The Rock, "they sound better".  OR becuase we had it on vynal and not on either cassette or CD....maybe both..lol.  In 1947, Boston's Tom Scholz (guitar and keyboards) was born and turns 62 today.

2003's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame showed some interesting inductor/inductee pairs.  The Police were inducted by No Doubt's Gwen Stefani , Steven Tyler of Aerosmith inducted AC/DC, the surviving members of The Clash by Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, Elton John incucted Elvis Costello and Billy Joel gave tribute to The Righteous Brothers.

Alanis Morissette caught America's attention when she released her album Little Jagged Pill.  In 1996, at the 25th Juno Awards in Hamilton Canada, the Canadian singer won awards for Best Album, Best Female Singer, Best Rock Album, Best Songwriter and Best Single.

Now, to get back to those arrested developments mentioned earlier.

In 2002, Puddle of Mudd singer, Wes Scantlin and  his fiance, Michelle Rubin were arrested for investigation of domestic violence.  The couple was booked at the Venture country jail in Fillmore, California, and would each be released on $20,000 bond.

In 2003, a lock of late Beatle George Harrison was bought by a Spanish hairdresser, who paid over $1000 for the guitarist's hair, which would be displayed at Rafael Pages’ Hairdressing Museum in Barcelona.

In 2004, Dave Blood, bassist for the band The Dead Milkmen commited suicide.  The incident was reported in a post by his sister Kathy on the band's official message board, and would be confirmed by the band's drummer, Dean Clean.

In wrapping up today's This Day In Rock, I just want to throw out the reminder that TODAY, on March 10th, LA band Carbon 9's 3rd CD, The Bull is being released, so be sure to go out and pick up a copy of that, as it is an amazing piece of work, and you can check out a review about the CD here at roadcrewmag.com, just look for it under the reviews section.  Have a great one!

Carbon 9's The Bull In Stores Today

Carbon 9's The Bull In Stores Today

LA band Carbon 9's new CD The Bull is being released today, so I thought it only fitting to give you, our readers a review of this remarkable new release and with an urging as strong as I can muster through the typed word, GO GET IT!!  I promise you that you will not be sorry for adding this CD to your collection, in fact I think you will be sorry if you don't.

I will warn you up front, that this review is not going to be your conventional CD review, but then, I never claimed to be conventional.  As I sat with headphones on and notebook in hand, I began to envision how this article would shape up and began to get excited.  As each song would play, I would write the title and then would write feverishly, becuase as I would listen, words, phrases and sentences  would pour through my mind as each song filled not just my ears, but my emotions.  But I'm jumping ahead of myself.  Where I really want to start is with the music, NOT the lyrics.

Music can take you through the many realms of emotion.  It can be translated with a melodic piano line, a forceful bass undertone, or a shredding guitar riff.  C9 takes you there with all of these and then some.  Each song is a unique story musically and lyrically within itself and will leave you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next song, full of anticipation.  And when you reach the end, you want to go right back to track 1 and start all over again, hopeful of what you will get out of each song the second time around.  There are only so many adjectives that you can use to describe the music, the playing, the musicians, and they are used quite frequently about several different artists.  You hear the terms "ground breaking", "innovating", "cutting edge" and the like and while they definatly pertain to C9, there is only one word that is coming to my mind as I replay The Bull through my mind and that is PASSION.  From one layer of sound to the next, from Darwin's guitar to the drums, from Omar's bass to the piano and back to Stacey's vocals, from a soothing melodic line to a hard face smashing power chord, C9 drips with passion.  Passion for music and passion for life.  And when you listen between the lines, and hear each individaul instrument, each individual voice and allow it permiate your senses and then listen again to the collective whole, you hear passion on two different levels, that of each individual musician and that of the band as a single entity. The music itself takes you on it's own journey as at times it's beautifuly simplistic while at others forcefully complex, but always uniquely C9's own.  It is difficult to put into words the complexity of music.  Sometimes you just have to hear it for yourself.

That brings us to the songs, and with the songs, the lyrics.  Just as the music itself tells a story of its own and stirs our emotions, lyrics do the same, but on a different level.  Music is the foundation and the platform on which the lyrics stand and then ring forth allowing us to draw forth our own interpretations and conclusions, allowing us to adopt the words into our lives with the meanings that they have for us as individuals. This is what happened as I was listening to The Bull.  The foundation was laid, the lyrics rang forth, and as I absorbed them, I couldn't help but put pen to paper as to the personal revelations that the lyrics stirred within me.  Sometimes it was just a couple of words, sometimes a lot more, but each song did not fail to stir somthing within me and cause me to evaluate ME, to evaluate my LIFE as an individual, as a writer, as a wife, as a mother.

As my interpretations are my own, and do not reflect in any way what the band's interprtations are, rather than giving them to you here I have reflected on them in my blog to share with you the reader what I drew forth from each of the tracks.  To offer you what this remarkable CD has given to me, and I'm sure that each time that I play it, I will draw more and hear more, just as you will if you allow the music to reach not just your ears, but penetrate to the core of who you are.

On a final note, the single My Friend has reached a rating of 8.5 out of 10 on AOL music making it a huge hit before the CD even hit shelves, a video for Mother has been released, and a tour is in preparation.  Not only is the music origianl and unique, the artwork for The Bull is as well, as C9 created all of the artwork, stimulating not just your sense of hearing, but that of your vision as well.  See it, hear it, buy it, reflect on it.

The Bull:

1 .  What Is It We're Made Of
2.   Crawling Over Me
3.   My Friend
4.   Somebody Like Me
5.   The Bull
6.   Mother
7.   Butterflies In My Head
8.   For You
9.   This Life
10.  Mary Mannequin
11.  I'm Not Broken
12.  Loving You
13.  I'm On My Own
14 . Lonely In Love
15.  Tongues

Gigs, Gold and #1

Happy Monday, March 9th to you.  I trust your weekend went well and that you're all ready for a new week of rock happenings here.  Grab your coffee and a muffin and we'll get started with today's look at what happened on this day in rock.

Gigs:

We have 2 different gigs that took place on March 9th.  In 1973, Black Sabbath kicked off a sold out UK tour that consisted of 8 dates at Green's Playhouse in Glasgow.  And in 1981, Robert Plant and his new band The Honey Drippers played a secret gig at England's Kelle University.

Gold:

Queen was a band that you could not compare to anyone else.  They were in a class all to themselves and one of music's greatest bands ever.  In 1976, their amazing A Night At The Opera went gold.  The album featured the hits, I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend and of course the every popular Bohemian Rhapsody.

#1:

The 80's was an amazing era of music.  While Metal Hair Bands reigned and ruled, there were bands in the pop vein that were still getting it done.  Dead Or Alive was one of the bands and in 1985, their single You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) went to #1 on the UK singles Chart.

Well, I don't know about you, but my coffee cup is empty and there are only crumbs left on the plate, so it's time to refill that cup and face the day.  Cheers!

A Little Bit Twisted

A Little Bit Twisted

Without a doubt, in looking at some of today's facts you can utter the phrase, "that's just a little bit twisted."  But then, things aren't always on a straight line path when it comes to rock n roll.

One of the most famous, twisted personalities in US history is that of Charles Manson.  In 1970, to help raise money for his defense in the Tate murder trial, he released an album titled Lie.  The jacket of the record looks like a cover of Life Magazine with the letter F missing from the word Life.  Amazingly, Manson does have a song on Billboard's Hot 100 with the song Never Learned Not To Love, originally titled Case To Exist, which is the B side of the single Bluebirds Over The Mountain, released by the Beach Boys.  Manson had befriended Dennis Wilson, drummer for the Beach boys and talked the band into recording the song.

There are many instances of bands getting into altercations with fans.  One of the most recent is that of Nikki Sixx of Motley Crew and a fan playing dodge ball with a bottle of water.  On this day in 1998, Liam Gallager of Oasis was charged in an Australian court for allegedly headbutting a fan and breaking the fan's nose.  He was released on $10,000 bail.

In reading and listening to different writers/critics discuss the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I remember someone talking about people who make it into the Hall numerous times because they were with different bands.  For the life of me, I can't remember who made the statement that in making the Hall once, they should not be eligible for multiple inductions.  One such example is that of Eric Clapton, who in 2000 was inducted into the Hall for the third time.  He had previously been inducted as a member of the bands The Yardbirds and Cream.

Onstage theatrics can really draw the crowd into the show, and work them into a frenzy as Norwegian metal rockers Mayhem found out when they threw a sheep's head into the audience at one of their shows, injuring a fan, fracturing his skull.

Well, there it is, laid out in a sick and twisted row for ya.  Have a great weekend!!

Remembering Jake Blue On This Day In Rock

Today we're remembering one of my favorite performers of all time, but before we do so, let's take a look at a couple of other facts from March 5th.

In 1994, Grace Slick, former Jefferson Starship singer was arrested for aiming a shotgun at police.  She later said that she had been under stress sincer her home in Mill Valley had burned the previous fall, and that she lost most of her memorabilia, including items that were stolen by Corte Madera firefighters, who were later fired for the incident.

The band Bowling For Soup has a song out entitled 1985.  There are times that I feel that I can really relate to that song.  Two phrases that stick out above others are "When did Motley Crue become classic rock" and "and when did Ozzy become an actor."  In the 80's Ozzy would never have been a common household name.  It was more of the lines of "DON'T YOU KNOW HE WORSHIPS THE DEVIL AND LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC WILL SEND YOU TO HELL???"   Not so in today's world of reality tv.  In 2002, the very first episode of The Osbournes aired on MTV.  All their fighting, cursing, and inability to understand a word that Ozzy would say in one neat little package.  Thank goodness for subtitles.

On this day in 1982, the world lost one of the greatest entertainers of all time to a drug overdose.  John Belushi's tombstone reads "I may be gone, but rock n roll lives on".  He died at the young age of 33.  While he was a huge comedic hit on Saturday Night Live and movies such as Animal House, one of his greatest performances ever was with Dan Aykroyd as The Blues Brothers, and will be remembered for their hit Soul Man.

Raise your glass to one of the world's greatest entertainers today as we remember John (Jake Blue) Belushi.

Need A Lil' Controversy?

Need A Lil' Controversy?

You don't have to look very far to find controversy surrounding different musicians.  And today is no exception as we have a few controversial topics today on this day in rock.

Right out of the starting gate, let's take a look at 1966.  The 60's were a controversial time to live in, but John Lennon stoked the fires of controversy when he made the statement, "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. We’re more popular then Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first, rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was alright, but his disciples were thick and ordinary.”  And while Lennon apologized, it was not before thousands of Beatles records were smashed at mass rallies, burned by different US Christian groups, and some radio stations quite playing the band's music.

We live in a time era that it no surprise to hear "vulgar" language everywhere you turn, and it without a doubt runs ramped in the music industry.  If you have attended Cruefest, you know what I mean.  Hey, if you're going this year OR to see Motley on their Saints of Los Angeles tour, take note and count at how many times the F bomb is dropped during one of their shows (opening bands included).  I'd bet it'd make for an interesting number.  If anyone ACTUALLY does this, send the number to me here at lis(at)roadcrewmag.com and I'll do an update to today's This Day in Rock with the number.  There was a time however, that cities frowned upon artists using vulgar language at their shows.  In 1970, Janis Joplin was fined $200 in Tampa Florida for using obscene language on stage during one of her concerts.

And now a word from our uncontroversial sponsor:

Hailing from Wales, in 1972, rock band Badfinger received a gold record for Day After Day.  And while I said they are our uncontroversial sponsor, that's not actually the truth, as two of the band's members would commit suicide in 1975 and 1983.

Jerry Lee Lewis lived in the controversy spotlight, and 1978 was no exception, as the IRS carried out a raid on the singers home, removing cars that were valued over $170,000 to pay off his back taxes.

Raise your hand if you remember the single, My Mother is a Space Cadet. (I'd bet money my oldest son would say it was about me....)  No one???  Well, this single was released in 1982 by the children of Frank Zappa, Dweezil and Moon.  The song got very little attention, so it's no surprise you probably haven't heard of it.

Our final fact you can be the judge and with your controversy meter if/any lies within.  Today in 2001, Glenn Hughes of The Village People passed away at the age of 50, losing his battle with lung cancer.  He was buried in his leather biker outfit.

Well, I hope your day is controversy free...kind of hard in this day and age, but I'm sure you'll do your best.  Have a great one!

2009 Teen Battle of The Bands

2009 Teen Battle of The Bands

Music is something that speaks to and influences people on all age levels, and the creation of music is not limited to adults.  This was proven with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, when he composed his first work at the age of 5, and continues to be proven with teen rock sensations such as Oklahoma's Crooked X.

Other teen musicians are hoping and reaching for their chance to make their mark on the pages of Oklahoma music history.  The Teen Board of the Oklahoma Heritage Association, made up of 28 high school students, is hoping to give one of six finalists their chance at the 2nd annual Battle of the Bands held at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum on March 28, 2009.

This event is not just about the bands who will be competing for the $1,000 prize, but about preserving Oklahoma’s history and promoting pride in this great state, with the proceeds from the event benefiting educational programs at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum.  Last year’s board gave more than $15,000, allowing more than 2,000 kids to tour the Museum for free and providing scholarships for several other educational programs.

This year's finalists for the battle of the bands include:

Injunuity, Ada, a Native American rock band
Jordan Bailey, Yukon, an acoustic/pop one-girl band
 Forevermore, Ada, an alternative/rock band
Hold ‘em High, Edmond/OKC, an alternative/pop band
The Transit Message, Edmond/OKC, an alternative/rock band
 Tritium
, Edmond/OKC, a middle school rock band.

Be sure to check back here at roadcrewmag.com, as I will be covering the battle on the 28th, which runs from 5 to 9 pm, as well as interviewing some of the finalists.  Tickets can be purchased prior to the event for $8 at the admissions desk of the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum at NW 13th Street and Shartel Avenue in Oklahoma City or by calling 405.523.3208.  They can also be purchased at the door the day of the event for $10. For more information about the Battle, Association or Museum, visit www.oklahomaheritage.com or call 405.523.3208.

Did You Know That?

Did You Know That?

I am never shocked to learn facts about bands and musicians that I didn't know about as I follow this daily trek into music's past.  There are of course the things that I will have known and then there are the ones that seem to come at me from left field.  Out of today's facts, there is only one that I knew the rest of them, I had no clue, and some of them even made my eyebrow raise up and all I could think was, "well, how bout that."

Making their stage debut in London, in 1967 was the Jeff Beck Group, which featured bassist Ron Wood, (Rolling Stones), drummer Aynsley Dunbar, and an unknown vocalist (well, at the time anyway) by the name of Rod Stewart.

In 1971, radio stations in South Africa lifted it's five-year ban on Beatles' music.  Now, while I knew that there were people who didn't like the Beatles and thought their music was from the devil, I had no idea that an entire country who had banned them.

1973 holds the fact that I DID know.  In 1983, Quiet Riot rocked everyone with the hit Cum on Feel the Noize, and most people assume that they were the originators of the song.  Not so.  In 1973, the band Slade is who origianlly released the hit, which would enter at #1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Now, while I know that a lot of bands have quirky idiosyncrasies, here's one I didn't know about.  In 1978, Van Halen's first tour opened at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.  Part of this tour was to open for Black Sabbath.  In the band's contract, it was specified that the band was to be provided M&M's and that all the brown ones were to be removed.

What drives people to assassination attempts?  Especially that of a musician?  What grievious wrong would a musician commit that would cause someone to want to take them out?  Well, in 1983, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones had two confirmed attempts on his life that failed, when a member of a motorcycle gang told a US Senate Judiciary hearing that his friends had a contract out on the singer.

Metallica is without a doubt one of metals most driving, and infulencial bands.  In 1986, they released thier album, Master of Puppets, which many in the metal realm believe is the best metal album of all time.  I persoanlly liked And Justice For All better.

Our final fact for today, and I was going to use a very bad pun at this juncture, but decided it would be in bad taste, so refrained, falls in the year 1995.  After collapsing during a concert in Switzerland due to a brain aneurysm, R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry underwent brain surgery, that was a success.

So, did you know very many of today's facts?  Well, that makes two of us.  Come back tomorrow to see if there are new facts that you didn't know.

That's Classic

That's Classic

Today's look back at rock history, provides us with a look at a lot of classic rockers, although some of them are still making their stamp on music today, by continuing to release albums,

Today, like most days we have birthdays to look at, but one of them is not that of a person.  I'll explain after we look at the rockers who are adding one more candle to their cake today.

Born today in 1943, turning 66, is Velvet Underground singer Lou Reed, who had a hit single in 1973 with the song Walk On The Wild Side.

Our other birthday today, whose cake is probably shining in a " blaze of glory", is singer Jon Bon Jovi, who is still getting in done in the studio as well as the arena.  He was born today in 1962 and is 47.

The birthday that I mentioned that doesn't belong to a person, belongs to none other than the compact disc, which was launched today in 1983 by Sony, Philips and Polygram, making the CD a ripe 26 years old.  And while the scratches are annoying, at least your cd player won't eat it like the tape player used to eat cassettes, (which I miss btw).

1967 heralded the ninth annual Grammy Awards.  Winners for that year included:  Frank Sinatra winning Record of the Year for Strangers in the Night and Album of the year for Sinatra, a Man and His MusicJohn Lennon and Paul McCartney won Song of the Year for Michelle, Best Contemporary Rock and Roll Recording went to The New Vaudeville Band for their song, Winchester Cathedral.

I love the movie Dazed and Confused, but I love the soundtrack to the movie even more as it contains some of the greatest classic rock hits from the 70's.  One that didn't make it that SHOULD have was Free's single All Right Now.  After being used in a Wrigley's Gum commercial, the song went to #2 in the UK singles chart in 1991, 21 years after it's original release.

In 1999, Bob Dylan performed at the opening of The Las Vegas House of Blues, with U2's Bono joining him in singing, Knockin On Heaven's Door.

There is nothing like good guitar.  To hear a screaming solo or an awesome guitar riff.....ahhhhhh just thinking about it makes me wanna go turn the stereo to 11.  In 2007 Classic Rock Magazine held a poll for "wildest guitar hero" of all time.  Jimi Hendrix took home the crown, followed by Keith Richards who took second, Stevie Ray Vaughan who took third, Jimmy Page of Led Zepellin took fourth and Dimebag Darrell, who played with bands like Pantera and Damageplan took fifth.

Finally, music lost an amazing musician one year ago today, when Canadian  guitarist/singer/ Jeff Healey died of cancer.  The musician, who played his guitar from his lap was blind from the age of 1 and appeared in the 1989 hit movie Road House.

Well, that's it for me.  Keep it real and I'll be back tomorrow for another edition of This Day In Rock.

Burn Halo

By   Sun, Mar 01, 2009

Burn Halo
Former 18 Visions frontman, James Hart is back in full force with a new band and a self titled disc..Burn Halo. This time around it isn't hardcore like his last band, but yet more straightforward hard rock. Slightly commerical, but yet full of ol' school 80's vibes to it. According to their own myspace page their sound is "awesomeness". After spending October and November of 2007 in the studio {working with musicians such as former Nixons singer Zac Maloy, Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold, Nickelback drummer Daniel Adair and former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney} Island Records decided to not release the effort. Leaving Burn Halo's manager Bret Bair to form his own label Rawkhead Rekords via Warner Music Group simply for the purpose to release the self titled disc. Hart decided to seek out other players to become a band as opposed to going out as a solo act. Add Aaron Boheler {bass}, Joey Cunha {lead guitar}, Allen Wheeler {rhythm guitar}, and Ryan Folden {drums} and we now have BURN HALO. Now the goal is to make their mark on the world, and so far they seem to be succeeding. The song 'Save Me' can also be found on the video game WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009 soundtrack. They are on tour now with Rev Theory and seems they will continue to tour for quite some time hooking up on the Sno Core tour with Saliva and Static X, and even making a stop at the Rock on the Range festival in Ohio this May. Be sure to check them out if you get the chance!!! And don't forget to pick up the self titled disc on March 31.

Bret Michaels is up for an A-List Award!

So Bret still hasn't found love but, he might be getting an award for his heartfelt attempt. Bravo's second annual "The A List Award's" has nominated VH1's Rock of Love for an award in the "Reality's Guiltiest Pleasure" catagory. The awards with be hosted by Kathy Griffin and be filmed at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on April 5th.

So, does Bret get your vote? I believe it is quite entertaining to watch a bunch of girls fight over Bret but, in reality...I would really like to see what happens when the cameras get turned off...to be a fly on that tour bus. Then again...maybe not.

Def Leppard, Poison, and Cheap Trick to Tour this Summer...

If you want the whole quote from Rikki, here you go: Folks keep askin' me, "Are you really touring with Def Leppard this summer?" The answer is, Yes! Not only that, Cheap Trick is on the bill as well! Now, some of you are wondering things like, "I thought Poison and Joe Elliot hated each other?" Well, not at all. Bret, Joe and Myself got a little carried away last summer takin' the piss outta each other. The fact is, I think there is a real mutual respect between us. After all, both of our bands have withstood the test of time.
Life is short, let's get rocked!"

-Rikki

So they have put aside any supposed differences and are heading out on the road together. The bill is sure to draw in the hair metal fans but, if you want to see a legendary band, you better get there early for Cheap Trick. Those guys are not to be missed.

Skold *vs* KMFDM

By   Sat, Feb 28, 2009

Skold *vs* KMFDM

Tim Skold is anything but new to the music scene...he might not quite be a household name like Marilyn Manson, the band he was at one point a member of as well as produced..but he is still not someone to overlook. Having just reunited with Sascha Konietzko, of KMFDM fame and whom Skold once shared a musical partnership with as well, the two men worked on putting together a disc during a break from the latest KMFDM sessions for Blitz.

The product of the duo is titled SKOLD *vs* KMFDM and contains 22 tracks (released 02.24.09) of amazing and outstanding industrial rock with lots of eccentric, haunting notes and choruses. Even more impressive is all of this was accomplished  without the two of them even being on the same continent. According to Skold [the album is] "a very electronic album but [that] the majority of the instruments used are actually analog and many of them are not even electric. What we decided to intentionally avoid this time was the traditional electric guitar. This was done to confuse and bewilder our fans. We like to keep them on their toes and many of them appreciate the challenge."

Samples of the album can be heard as well as purchased at skoldvskmfdm.com. They even are offering a great bundle pack that includes a cd, tshirt and a few other goodies.
