Interviews,

Alexx Calise

By Jenny   Sun, Jan 31, 2010

Alexx Calise

Alexx Calise is not your everyday woman. In fact she may be ahead of her time. I am sure you have heard of her but you just have not realized it. Her music was most recently featured on a commercial for the television show "One Tree Hill". That's not all, she has been featured in Blender magazine and Guitar World. If that is not enough, how about being an important part of a book called "How To Succeed As A Female Musician". Her Music has seen Heavy rotation on MTV and VH1. The list of her achievements is endless and and growing on a daily basis. And because of this I was honored that I was able to interview her.

RC: What is the one question your surprised no one ever asks?

AC:
How old I am.

RC: Your answer!!!

AC:Haha, you never ask a woman that question!

RC: Tell Me about your upcoming album, possible release dates, upcoming singles, your favorite & why

AC: My upcoming album is rocktronica a collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer, Luigie
Gonzalez (I may add in some acoustic songs as well just to let people know that I can in fact, sing
and play guitar). While it isn't a complete departure from my first album (I collaborated on the
song "Give it to Me" with Luigie), it's definitely more mature in content, and it has more of
an electronic flair to it. It was scheduled for release this month, along with the debut album from
my other project, Sound of Cancer, but because we decided to go back into the studio and do some
additional tracks, both albums will now be released on a tentative date in February.

"Break Me" which will be accompanied by a video filmed and directed by Ricardo Moreno will be
the first single.

While it's hard to choose a favorite song, I'd have to say that "Out of Sight" comes
closest, in that it's extremely existential and heartfelt, and it helped me through one of my
lowest moments.

RC: What inspires you?

AC: Life, death, love, hate, anger, joy, happiness, loneliness, the human psyche, the world, in all of
its beauty and ugliness, is my canvas.

RC: What keeps you going on the days you feel defeated or down?

AC: Music. It's my therapy and my muse, and the only thing that seems to get the darkness out of
me.

RC: What obstacles in your life have you overcome to get where you are today?

AC: There have been a great number of obstacles in my life and my career, but I'd say the most
difficult one to overcome is myself. Because I'm a bit of an existentialist, I live inside my
head, and I tend to overanalyze and overcomplicate things, and put an extraordinary amount of
pressure on myself. However, I've found that the more I let up on myself and cut myself a break,
the happier I am, and the farther I seem to get.

RC: How do you think women can be a bigger influence in music today?

AC: I think women are already a driving force in the music industry today. Just look at who's topping
the charts right now: Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, all females.

What I would like to see though are some more positive female role models in music; someone
relatable that young girls can look up to and aspire to be.

RC: What do you think is one of the biggest Myths about Rock Music Today?

AC:That all rock stars are extraordinarily wealthy.

RC:  What is you biggest achievement so far in your career?

AC: I'd say there are several that stick out in my mind. Most recently, my music was just used in a
One Tree Hill promo, and I was downloaded 100,000 times in 5 days when I was featured on the front
page of Frostwire. I've also gotten the chance to play on the same bill as Ozzy Osbourne and KoRn
during the Sunset Strip Music Festival, which was such an amazing opportunity.

RC: Describe a typical day, or is there a typical day? :)

AC: Well, craziness usually ensues, haha! Lately, I've been recording every single day to get my 2 new
albums out in a timely fashion, but I'm usually playing shows, practicing, doing interviews,
working the social networking sites, and exercising whenever I get a free moment.

RC:  Do you have a favorite quote or verse from a song?

AC: "Whoever said that there's a start or there's an end? Could it be that this is how it's
always been?"

It's a line from my song, "Out of Sight". It was actually inspired by a conversation I had
with my father as a kid about the "creation" of the universe, and how we as human beings feel
that everything has to have a point of origin, and an ending. The concept of something just existing
forever in time is far too powerful for most of us to grasp.

RC: Do you do shows outside the LA area? Outside of California?

AC: Yes, I have performed in several parts of the country; especially on the east coast (Florida, New
Jersey, Massachusetts, etc).

RC:  Do you write alone or do you team up with someone?

AC: It all depends. A great portion of my forthcoming album was written by Luigie Gonzalez and I, but 90
percent of my last record was written entirely by me. I like collaborating because two heads are
usually better than one. But, I also enjoy writing alone because of how close I am to my songs. I
never skimp on content because every song I ever write comes from the depths of my soul. I can only
share something so personal with someone I really trust, and who understands me.

RC:  Have you written any songs that were so personal they were difficult to perform live?

AC: I wouldn't say any of my songs are particularly difficult to perform live, but they do bring me
right back to the place I was when I wrote them. One of my songs, "Morning Pill", is one of my
most personal and emotive songs. I wrote it about a very toxic relationship I had when I was just
sixteen. That song always strikes a chord with me, and most everyone who hears it because of its
complete rawness and vulnerability. I lose myself in that song, and believe it's one of the most
heartfelt compositions I've ever written.

RC: Tell me if you could perform with anyone on any tour who would it be with & why?

AC: I would love to tour with Silverchair. They've been my favorite band since I was a kid. They've
grown exponentially as a band, and they are extremely musical (which I believe is one of the best
compliments you can receive from a musician). When they first came out, people labeled them Nirvana
copies and Soundgarden wannabes, yet here they are, 5 albums later, still together, and writing some
of the most brilliantly orchestrated and soulful pieces I've ever heard.

Nikki Sixx Warns Fans

In this world there are winners and there are losers. Sometimes the losers take advantage of someone's stardom. Then there is the lowest of the low, the ones who go back for seconds like a disgusting virus that wont stop feeding off its prey until it has had its fill. Well friends The Virus has reared its ugly head in the form of an UNAUTHORIZED Biography About Musician, Songwriter, Philanthropist Nikki Sixx. Friends Please I beg you PLEASE Do not buy this trash. it is unauthorized, unedited and wrongful. You will be sorry you have even wasted time reading the cover. Below Is a Blog From Nikki's MySpace re posted with permission. The Blog Tells the full story.

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Years ago an unauthorized biography called "An Education in Rebellion" was written about me without my approval or support.  It was never endorsed.  In fact, I disapproved and considered legal action because I felt fans were getting ripped off by being sold a book without my involvement.  I feel fans have bought it under the assumption that I approved of it because the writers have collected interviews from people that make it seem relevant – these people who were interviewed have told me afterwards that they had no idea that their conversations were being used for an unauthorized book.  I want to say that I do not, now or ever, approve of people riding the coattails of other people's hard work and personal lives - this is criminal in my opinion.  This is no different than what the paparazzi does or the gossipy crap that perches like vultures on our newsstands with magazines like the National Enquirer.

The writer and publisher are now “re-releasing” the book with updated information based on my success with Mötley Crüe, Sixx: A.M., The Heroin Diaries and other ventures I'm involved in.  It's scummy at best to be honest.  My attorneys have already sent them legal letters directing them to stop but they know the loop holes and how to get around them.  Believe it or not, the law allows anyone to write a book about anyone else without getting proper permission which is really crazy because my fans think this was endorsed or approved by me and it’s not.  This is sad.   These people are now partnering up with a company to sell ownership rights to the book's master rights even though they are my life rights -- again, bordering on scum.  As a fan of music I do not buy anything unauthorized because I know, unless the artist signs off on it, its hearsay, gossip, and made up to pad the pockets of the writers, publishers, etc.  Their website gives people the false impression that these "auctions" have the fans buying some portion of revenues that go to artists or songwriters.  In my case at least, nothing could be further from the truth.  Nothing comes to me or my family.  It’s hurtful.

It's this kind of thing that makes me even more excited to do the Sixx Sense radio show.  I look forward to shining a spotlight on issues like this one -- issues that go unnoticed and issues that may otherwise slip through the cracks.

In the end I worry about the fans being ripped off.  I cannot (nor can any of my friends in the public eye) stop these bottom feeders.   If you want to know about Mötley Crüe, get The Dirt.  If you want to know about band members, get their individual books, but don't support this type of behavior on this or any artists.... they say they're excited to share this with fans and that may be so, but if it's not about the money... then donate it to charity...

Thank You,

Nikki Sixx

Well friends That there should be enough.

TattooGalleria.Com - What's the Story Behind Your Ink?

By Becca   Tue, Feb 02, 2010

TattooGalleria.Com - What's the Story Behind Your Ink?
Nearly two out of five people under the age of 40 are sporting one or more tattoos, according to a recent study by Pew Research. Body art is a white-hot social phenomenon, and the cultural trend shows no sign of waning.

"Tattoos are a living, breathing art form. They are an extension of a person's character, personality and life experience," said Raul Duenez, tattoo aficionado, owner and founder of TattooGalleria.com, an online forum for all things ink. "Everyone has a story to tell, and our new site is a medium for that."

The web site's looking to launch an online tattoo magazine providing a place to show off your skin adornment. It's a forum to tell others about your experience, as well as which tattooist did the artwork, who or what inspired you to get the tattoo, and what the experience on the table was like - all the gory little details.

"At TattooGalleria.com, you can talk about how the boss or boyfriend reacted or what Momma had to say about your body ink. Everyone wants to tell everyone else about their tattoos and their plans for their next ones," said Duenez. "Just go to the clubs and watch all the conversations that get started over them."

Through the site, subscribers can share a social connection through video clips, feature articles and photographs. “We are working on a offering a monthly publication” says the owner. Vendor participation is encouraged, as well as submission of personal stories and pictures. It's as simple as dropping us an email or follow us on Twitter @tattoogalleria.

Established in 2009, TattooGalleria (www.tattoogalleria.com) offers guidance on how to take the first step in selecting a tattoo design, and it links website visitors with vendors in the Los Angeles area and beyond. Site visitors can participate on the social networking forums and through Twitter. And now, members can view and share video clips and photographs of their pieces and read feature articles about tattoo artists, businesses and other body art fans.

The web site posts an extensive link collection of tattoo designs for ink and henna, which can be purchased and printed. They are sorted into many different categories: Armband, Egyptian, Tribal, Geometric, Gothic, Back Tattoos, Crosses, Celtic, Star Tattoos and more. The website also showcases tattoo books and DVDs. Tattoo Shops or artists can contact the sales team for advertising opportunities.

"You can look through images before you head over to the tattoo studio to get inked. Spontaneous is good for road trips and eating out...not always so great for permanent body pigment," said Duenez. "Look through our site and tattoo galleries, review your options, and give it some serious thought. Take your time. There are some absolutely amazing tattoo artists out there." Anyone who wants to promote their name or tattoo business can do so on the site for $19.95 and their posting will be up for all of 2010. Not a bad deal especially when the forum is there.

Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record with Slash

By Becca   Wed, Feb 24, 2010

Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record with Slash

Continuing its support of aspiring artists, Guitar Center (www.guitarcenter.com), the world's largest musical instrument retailer, today announced Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record with Slash a first-of-its-kind, unsigned band competition that provides emerging artists the chance to win the ultimate career-altering opportunity: record a 3-song EP with legendary producer, Mike Clink (Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth) and have Slash write, record and perform on the winning artists' single. Starting today, through April 30th, 2010 bands across the United States are invited to submit their music at YourNextRecord.com for a chance to win the aforementioned prize package, which also includes:

  • A management development deal with "The Collective" (Linkin Park, Slash, Avenged Sevenfold) · Feature of winning artists' single on iTunes · Worldwide distribution of winning artists' music through Tunecore · $10,000 Guitar Center Shopping Spree · New gear and endorsement deals from Ernie Ball Music Man · An opening slot on Slash's Monster Energy Bash · An editorial feature on the winning band in
    • Guitar World Magazine

"The formula that used to work for discovering new artists has been decimated and the opportunities for really talented bands to be heard is extremely limited," said Slash. "That's why it's so important to me and Guitar Center to provide a situation where new talent can be discovered. This is an incredibly interesting way to find and help launch a really great band that hasn't been able to get their foot in the door otherwise."

Guitar Center commissioned leading entertainment platform developer, FameCast, adopting its proprietary contest management technology, known as "Buzz Factor," to collect and present each band's submissions and rank them using a variety of metrics such as online fan voting and community engagement, ensuring that the best bands standout. In addition, all bands will be armed with digital tools to help encourage their fans to vote for their submissions as well as other great unsigned artists. After the three-month submission and voting period the top bands will be personally evaluated and selected by Slash and Mike Clink.

Guitar Center is also a primary partner of
Ernie Ball's Shred with Slash
promotion which offers musicians the chance to win over $50,000 in prizes, including a private master class with Slash, upon finding one of five custom, limited edition Slash guitar picks in select packs of Ernie Ball electric guitar strings sold exclusively at Guitar Center between February 1st and April 30th. Picks and corresponding prizes are as follows:

Gold Pick:
(20 winners) A private 2-hour Master Class with Slash
Silver Pick:
(10 winners): A custom Ernie Ball Music Man guitar or bass of winner's choice
Red Pick:
(20 winners): A $500 Guitar Center shopping spree
Black Pick:
(100 winners) Signed copy of Slash's new solo album
White Pick:
(1,000 winners) Free pack of Ernie Ball electric guitar strings

The opportunity coincides with what will be Slash's first true solo album. Slash announced today his CD,
SLASH
, will release in April 2010. The album features an all-star roster of guest musicians including Ian Astbury, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca, Fergie, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmeister, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKagan, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother.

Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record with Slash is just one of many Guitar Center initiatives created to foster growth and success within the music community, including its annual King of the Blues, Drum-Off and On-Stage competitions, among others. Guitar Center's King of the Blues is a nationwide amateur guitar skills competition with the goal of finding the next great undiscovered blues guitar player. Drum-Off is an annual drumming competition that, now in its 21st year, has been a launching pad for many drummers, including Cora Coleman-Dunham and Tony Royster Jr, two Drum-Off winners who have gone on to become highly acclaimed professional drummers (with Prince and Jay Z respectively). Guitar Center On-Stage
is a musical competition judged by Mötley Crüe. The winning band, The Last Vegas, has since gone on to open for Mötley Crüe on tour and subsequently topped iTunes critics' 2009 "Rock Singles of the Year List" with their hit single "I'm Bad."

This Day In Rock

Hello friends and welcome to another edition of This Day In Rock. It is Monday I hope you enjoyed your weekend cause now it is time to get back to work. Lets take that walk down musical memory lane.

On this day in 1956 "Heartbreak Hotel" by Elvis Presley would begin a four month stay on the Billboard charts. Eight weeks of that would be spent at #1.

in 1958 Cashbox magazine proclaimed "Get A Job" by The Silhouettes to be the #1 song in the land.

On This day in 1975 "Pick Up The Pieces" By The Average White Band was #1.

On this day in 1977 the song "Car Wash" By Rose Royce goes Platinum.

On this day in 1989 People thought the Grammy Awards were taking a step in the right direction by adding a Heavy Metal Category. The award that year was given to Jethro Tull amongst many Boos from the crowd proving that the Grammys do not need to hand out an award for something they know nothing about.

Well friends thats all for today. Until tomorrow...

Frontiers Records Signs The Legendary ALAN PARSONS

Frontiers Records Signs The Legendary ALAN PARSONS

Legendary studio wizard Alan Parsons returns with a live concert recording - Eye 2 Eye - Live In Madrid to be released March 19 in Europe and April 6 in the USA on Frontiers Records.  Eye 2 Eye - Live In Madrid will come out in two separate configurations in CD and DVD format.

Eye 2 Eye - Live In Madrid was filmed and recorded at the May 14, 2004 show in Playa Mayor - Madrid, Spain. The location is a gorgeous plaza surrounded by historic buildings and is a legacy to a very fine performance from an outstanding group of musicians.

Alan Parsons’ career started aged 19 when he worked on The Beatles last two albums, Let It Be and then Abbey Road, an album recorded in the legendary London studios of the same name. He soon become a well respected studio engineer and producer, working for Paul McCartney, John Miles, The Hollies, Al Stewart and Pink Floyd among others. He is particularly renowned for his work on the Pink Floyd masterpiece Dark Side of The Moon. This classic album was recorded in 1972, and Parsons’ contribution to the album is legendary.

With The Alan Parsons Project, Alan went on to release 10 acclaimed studio albums but never performed live, even after several US and UK Top 20 hits. The Project ended in 1990 when Eric Woolfson and Alan went separate ways. Eric devoted his career to the musical theatre, while Parsons felt the need to bring his music to the live concert stage and to continue to record conceptual symphonic rock music.

As well as receiving gold and platinum awards from many nations, Alan Parsons has received 12 Grammy Award nominations for engineering and production. In 2007 he received a nomination for Best Surround Sound Album for A Valid Path.

Eye 2 Eye – Live in Madrid features an outstanding performance and for many fans this is the first opportunity to see Alan Parsons' touring band. The musicians’ performances are superb throughout, and this could well be the definitive band line-up that Alan has toured with. An added treat is Alan singing lead vocals on three songs as well as all band members sharing the lead vocal duties.

CD track listing includes:

I Robot; Can't Take It With You; Don't Answer Me; Breakdown / The Raven; Time; Psychobabble; I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You; Damned If I Do; More Lost Without You; Don't Let It Show; Prime Time; Sirius / Eye In The Sky; (The System Of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether; Games People Play.

The DVD includes the entire concert and is available in NTSC region free format with stereo mix 2.0

"GOLD: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality." Coming To DVD on March 23

By Becca   Fri, Feb 19, 2010

"GOLD: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality." Coming To DVD on March 23

Wild Eye Releasing and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of "GOLD: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality." for North American distribution on March 23. Considered a 'lost' film for 40 years, GOLD has been found again... This is its first time ever on any form of home video.

In 1968, filmmaker Bob Levis led a rag-tag band of dreamers, drop outs and drug-happy darlings into the wilderness to make a movie and emerged a month later with GOLD, a bizarre and beautiful journey into the mind and madness of the late 1960s - one overflowing with fantasies of revolution, recreation and raunchy free love. At once a western, a comedy, a nudie, a drama and a musical - GOLD is a profound potpourri made in the spirit of shaking down square society, while systematically shattering every movie rule in the process. But then the film vanished, lost like the generation from which it came... Until now.

Starring the father of improvisational comedy Del Close (The Untouchables, Ferris Bueller's Day Off), Garry Goodrow (Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, The Hollywood Knights), and fueled by the hard kickin' sounds of the MC5 and more, GOLD is a tawdry and twisted testament to a time when the world was ready for change, and the counter-culture set out to turn it upside-down.

In the current Hollywood film Pirate Radio (Focus) - the character played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman is based on Ronan O'Rahilly (Radio Caroline) - who produced the movie GOLD and got the MC5 in the movie since he was their tour manager '70 to '71.

SOLID STATE LOGIC’S CHRIS JENKINS, WINSMUSIC PRODUCERS GUILD UNSUNG HERO AWARD

By Becca   Tue, Feb 16, 2010

SOLID STATE LOGIC’S CHRIS JENKINS, WINSMUSIC PRODUCERS GUILD UNSUNG HERO AWARD

Solid State Logic is pleased to announce that Chris Jenkins, SSL design guru and director of commercial applications, has won the Music Producers Guild Unsung Hero Award. The award ceremony took place at Cafe de Paris, London, on February 11, 2010. The Unsung Hero Award puts the spotlight on those individuals who have quietly yet dramatically contributed to the music industry at large.

“We are really pleased and proud that Chris is getting the accolades from his peers he so richly deserves,” says Antony David, SSL’s Managing Director. “Chris is an accomplished musician, mixer and producer as well as being a visionary technologist. It’s that special combination of skills and perspectives that makes him such an important part of our team. We are delighted to join the industry in congratulating him.”

Jenkins has been with SSL since 1981 when he joined the company as a service/commissioning engineer. He moved into product development when he helped to specify the 5000 Broadcast and 5000 Film Series consoles. The film console was developed in conjunction with the Lucas film mixers at Skywalker Ranch, the first users of these systems.

In addition to the tireless support of the company’s sales staff worldwide, Jenkins worked with the SSL engineering teams in the development of the successful C Series digital console range, which includes the C100, C300 and the latest C10 digital broadcast console. His magic touch also was felt in the development of the industry changing AWS 900+ SE, Matrix and the flagship Duality analogue consoles.

Jenkins credits his background at the BBC Transcription Recording Unit, which allowed him to work in radio programming, live classical recording and work with high end popular music stars, for giving him insight on the development of console technology. His wide range of friends from all parts of the industry have helped him keep up with current trends and technologies. To round out this experience, Jenkins is also a guitarist and an active recording engineer.

Says Peter Gabriel, superstar artist and co-owner of SSL, “From its inception, SSL has been responsible for a lot of great innovation in studios and Chris Jenkins has long been one of its unsung heroes. Chris’s inventive mind and passion for sound has, time after time, delivered magic. He understands, as well as anyone I know, how musicians and producers actually work in the studios, and he can design equipment that enables their musical dreams to slide effortlessly into reality.”

Frontiers Records to release GIANT’s come-back album

By Becca   Mon, Feb 15, 2010

Frontiers Records to release GIANT’s come-back album

Powerhouse Rock quartet GIANT has reformed to release their long awaited album PROMISE LAND on Frontiers Records March 9th, 2010. GIANT consists of founding members David Huff on drums and bassist Mike Brignardello, along with singer extraordinaire Terry Brock (Strangeways, Seventh Key) and John Roth (Winger) on guitars. PROMISE LAND was mixed by Ben Fowler (Van Zandt, Cher, Meat Loaf) and mastered by Joe Palmaccio (3 Grammy Awards won).

Originally formed by brothers Dann and David Huff, together with the experienced Jazz-Rock keyboardist Alan Pasqua and Nashville session bass player Mike Brignardello, GIANT would soon become, with the release of their debut album “Last of The Runaways” (A&M Records, 1989), one of the most respected trademark bands of the Melodic Hard Rock scene. Following countless live performances, the band recorded the follow-up “Time to Burn” (Epic, 1991), an album still regarded as a main source of influence for many Melodic and Hard Rock bands nowadays.

In April 2009 the band started the writing and the recording sessions of the new album, with Dann Huff himself participating to the sessions, co-writing with the new line-up members the haunting ballad Our Love and the straight out rockers Double Trouble, Plenty of Love, Save Me. He offered songs from his catalogue, such as the album title-track, Through My Eyes (both co-written with Mark Spiro) and Two Worlds. He also later guested on lead guitars on Save Me and Believer (Redux), the latter being a song written by Erik Martensson and Robert Sall of new Melodic Rock sensations W.E.T. with Miqael Persson (with two more: Never Surrender and Prisoner of Love fruit of the Martensson/Persson collaboration).

We have worked so hard and we are very happy and proud of this record, along with Dann”, explains David Huff. “The production, band members song-writing and performances shine all over the album!”

PROMISE LAND includes the following songs:

Believer (Redux); Promise Land; Never Surrender; Our Love; Prisoner of Love; Two Worlds; Plenty of Love; Through My Eyes; I’ll Wait For You; Dying To See You; Double Trouble; Complicated Man*, Save Me. Also includes “The Making of Promise Land” documentary -  interactive multimedia bonus.

*Bonus track only available in the first pressing in digi-pak.

SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT ANNOUNCE NEW DATES FOR THE "AMERICAN CARNAGE" NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

By Becca   Sat, Feb 13, 2010

SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT ANNOUNCE NEW DATES FOR THE "AMERICAN CARNAGE" NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Slayer and Megadeth are thrilled to announce the new, confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23.  Slayer will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11.   American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4.  Testament will be Special Guest on all shows.  Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates.  Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at www.slayer.net   • www.megadeth.com   • www.testamentlegiions.com

Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase.  However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento.  The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Slayer's vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya's ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate.  That surgery took place early last week.

"The doctors said that Tom's surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success," said Rick Sales, long-time Slayer manager.  "He's home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably."

Shortly after the surgery, Slayer's Kerry King received a text from Tom:  "Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better."

The American Carnage Tour will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament will have toured the U.S. together since 1991's epic "Clash of the Titans" tour, making this truly a "must-see" event.

Slayer recently announced the rescheduling of its headline tour in the UK and Europe, and Megadeth and Testament are currently on tour together playing U.S. cities that will not be on the American Carnage itinerary.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road on July 23 in support of their most recent albums:  Megadeth's 2009 album, ENDGAME, and Slayer's World Painted Blood, the band's 10th studio venture, which hit stores November 3, 2009.  Testament's The Formation of Damnation:  Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010 with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S., first with four explosive dates in June 2009 across Western Canada - "Canadian Carnage" - the first time the bands had toured together anywhere in 18 years - and then six co-headlining "Carnage" dates in Australia followed last October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer:  "It was a night of thrash impossible to trash..."  "Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun..."  "The two heavy metal heavyweights...went head-to-head on a level playing field.  Both bands brought their 'A' game.  And the results were anything but pretty - unless you include pretty freakin' loud and pretty freakin' awesome."

Slayer.  The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot wrote that Slayer is "one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre."  Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer - guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo - bring to its live shows, having been named "Best Live Band" by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer.  World Painted Blood offers a Slayer-ized point of view of our world - God's terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, and a chilling hypothesis of how the rest of the world might view America.  The album was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009.  World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman who has spent time in the studio with Metallica, the Gossip, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slipknot and others, and executive produced by long-time Slayer colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. One reviewer called the album "the heaviest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades."  World Painted Blood landed on boatloads of U.S. and International "Best of" lists for 2009, and N.A.R.A.S. saw fit to bestow its fourth Grammy nomination on Slayer - Best Metal Performance for the WPB track, "Hate Worldwide."   For "American Carnage," Slayer's Tom Araya promises, "no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos."

Megadeth.  2009 saw the release of ENDGAME, which has been heralded as Megadeth's best album in years.  It's the record where it all comes full circle in a career that has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them.  Megadeth's signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine once again musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a government document that should strike fear in the hearts of Americans!  But that's Mustaine and Megadeth, using the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically.  Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, "One of their best albums."  VH1's 'That Metal Show' deemed it "One of the metal albums of the year," and Popmatters said, "the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust in Peace." The band was also awarded the eighth Grammy nomination of its career for “Head Crusher,” which serves as more proof that ENDGAME is quickly earning “essential” status in the Megadeth catalog. Megadeth will appear on the season premiere of VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show,” which airs Saturday, February 6, at 11 PM EST.  Megadeth has teamed with ILoveAllAccess.com   to offer Ultimate Fan Packages.  For more info, go to www.megadeth.com
Legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose latest award-winning release (2008 Album of the Year, Metal Hammer's Golden God Award) The Formation of Damnation, displays them as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever.  Lead singer Chuck Billy says, "Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations.  We are so proud to be a part of it."

By Becca   Fri, Feb 12, 2010

Long regarded as one of rock's legendary voices, BRIAN HOWE will release his solo album CIRCUS BAR February 26th on Frontiers Records. This album will also include two stunning – newly recorded - remakes of the Bad Company hits “How ‘Bout That” and “Holy Water.” CIRCUS BAR was produced by Brooks Paschal and mixed by Rafe McKenna (GIANT, BAD COMPANY, TESLA, TEN).

HOWE had some friends help shape up CIRCUS BAR such as  Wayne Nelson of The Little River Band who dropped by the studio for a few days and also Pat Travers popped in and played guitar on "My Town". “I didn't want to have too many "established" musicians on the record because I wanted to keep the feel somewhat fresh and spontaneous”, explains HOWE. This album promises to be a career landmark for this amazing singer’s career.

HOWE started his career in 1983 as lead vocalist for Ted Nugent on the "Penetrator" album and fronting its band on the subsequent world tour. In 1984, drummer Simon Kirke and guitarist Mick Ralphs asked HOWE to replace Paul Rodgers as the lead singer in Bad Company. HOWE decided to accept the offer and continue the legend of the band. This was not an easy task, but along with Kirke and Ralphs, HOWE created, wrote, recorded and toured for the following 10 years, headlining every major venue around the globe.

Along with Bad Company's highly acclaimed 1993 live CD "What You Hear Is What You Get - The Best of Bad Company - Live", HOWE wrote and sold with Bad Company something like 19 million of records, highlighted by such radio and video hits as "Holy Water”, "If You Needed Somebody," "No Smoke Without A Fire," and "How About That," - not to mention a few of the group's previous hits as recorded on the "live" CD.

“It's been 13 years since my last record and on this CD I have given them everything I have: music that appeals to anyone that likes big melodies with an edge”. 100% gold class awaits the faithful fans that will purchase CIRCUS BAR, better believe it: BRIAN HOWE is back to Rock!

CIRCUS BAR track listing includes:

I’m Back; Life’s Mystery; There’s This Girl; Could Have Been You; Surrounded; Flying; How It Could Have Been; My Town; How ‘Bout That; Feels Like I’m Coming Home; If You Want Trouble; Feelings; Holy Water; Little George Street.

BONNAROO MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2010 LINEUP

By Becca   Fri, Feb 12, 2010

BONNAROO MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2010 LINEUP

Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment are excited to announce the initial lineup for the 2010 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The ninth annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 10 - 13 on the same beautiful 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. A full list of confirmed acts follows, and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The final Bonnaroo 2010 lineup will total over 125 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days. Tickets are on sale now exclusively at bonnaroo.com!

Perhaps bringing you the most diverse and ambitious lineup to date, the 2010 event draws world-class acts from a staggering range of musical worlds. This year the festival features the Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Weezer, Flaming Lips performing Dark Side Of The Moon, The Dead Weather, Phoenix, John Fogerty, Jimmy Cliff, Tenacious D, Zac Brown Band, Avett Brothers, Norah Jones, LCD Soundsystem, Tori Amos, The National, Jeff Beck, Michael Franti, Against Me!, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Baaba Maal, The Melvins, Thievery Corporation to name but a small portion of the deep lineup. Wonder’s Bonnaroo performance marks a rare festival appearance for the legend, whose illustrious songbook continues to be as influential and significant today as ever. Bonnaroo veterans Kings of Leon are the first band in the history of the festival to start on a tent stage and work their way up to the coveted headlining slot. They were first booked to play a tent stage early in the day in 2004. They have gone on to perform at Bonnaroo several times, each appearance bigger than the last. This will be one of the very few appearances the band will make in 2010.

The largest and most revered music and camping event in the country, Bonnaroo has elevated the American rock festival to an unprecedented level. As the only round-the-clock major U.S. music festival, Bonnaroo packs an unparalleled amount of entertainment options into its four days. The event has offered its attendees the amenities and community spirit of a small city, with 24 hours of activities including a comedy theater, cinema festival, jazz club, silent disco, arcade, Internet cafés, restaurants, yoga classes and hundreds of high quality craft vendors. Since its inception, Bonnaroo swiftly earned its status as the country’s premier music and arts event. The Wall Street Journal called Bonnaroo “one of rock’s best festivals,” continuing to hail that the 2009 lineup “fairly bursts with some of the most gifted acts in rock and pop.” Entertainment Weekly called it “the best of all sonic worlds,” while the New York Times said, “Bonnaroo’s very loose mandate — and a wise one for any festival — is to choose performers who deliver in a live performance, with current hits and studio expertise as lower priorities. One of the pleasures of the festival is that it defies narrowcasting: It’s not an Americana festival, an indie-rock festival, a gathering of 2008-9 hitmakers or anything but what its producers and, presumably, ticket-buyers are happy to hear.” Rolling Stone called Bonnaroo “one of the 50 moments to change the history of rock and roll.”

Once again, Bonnaroo has created a couple of unique ticketing options for its fans. The festival is offering a special payment plan in which tickets will be available for five (5) payments of $50.00 plus applicable fees. In addition, fans will have the option to purchase a Bonnaroo Green Ticket that will help to support the development and implementation of sustainable improvements at the festival for years to come. Festival organizers are constantly looking for ways to be aggressive with mitigating the event’s environmental impact and raising awareness about green issues.

As part of Fuse’s three-year deal with Bonnaroo, the network will be back as the exclusive television partner of the festival. Fuse will be reporting live from Bonnaroo throughout the weekend and will air a special, featuring interviews with the hottest bands and performances from this year’s star-studded lineup. www.fuse.tv

Coming to DVD on February 23... Blank Generation (1980): A Film Starring Richard Hell

By Becca   Sat, Feb 06, 2010

Coming to DVD on February 23... Blank Generation (1980): A Film Starring Richard Hell

Finally on DVD is the classic punk rock movie from 1980 starring Richard Hell, illustrating the end of the first wave of New York City punk rock better than any documentary. Nada (Carole Bouquet), a beautiful French journalist on assignment in New York, records the life and work of an up and coming punk rock star, Billy (Richard Hell). Soon she enters into a volatile relationship with him and must decide whether to continue with it, or return to her lover, a fellow journalist trying to track down the elusive Andy Warhol (playing himself). Featuring members of the Voidoids and the Ramones.

This long lost film is like a time capsule from pre-Disneynification New York City: sleazy, dirty and most importantly, real. The DVD package includes a lengthy new interview with Hell about the film and more.

Richard Hell states: "This is a priceless package. The real burnt-out New York in January and February 1978, the Voidoids live at CBGB, Ed Lachman's cinematography, Elliot Goldenthal's sound track, Carole Bouquet's face, my lithe figure, Andy Warhol to break your heart, Luc Sante demonically extracting the ugly truths from me re: the horror of it all (bonus feature which is better than the movie itself)...unique. Spring for it."

Bonus Materials

    * 2009 Interview with Richard Hell by Luc Sante about the making of and stories behind BLANK GENERATION (45 minutes)

Points of Interest

    * Live Performances by Richard Hell & The Voidoids
    * Stars Richard Hell, Carole Bouquet, Ulli Lommel and Andy Warhol

SHERWOOD LAUNCHES U.S. HEADLINING TOUR FEBRUARY 17 IN LOS ANGELES

SHERWOOD LAUNCHES U.S. HEADLINING TOUR FEBRUARY 17 IN LOS ANGELES

Sherwood, purveyors of feel good California rock, will be hitting the road launching a U.S. headlining tour in support of its most recent effort QU. The tour kicks off February 17 in Los Angeles at the famed Roxy Theater.

A Beach Boys-inspired power pop band hailing from San Luis Obispo, California, Sherwood came together in 2002 while the band members were still students at the local university. Now signed to Myspace Records, they’ve released their debut Summer EP followed by two full length releases (Sing, But Keep Going in 2005 and 2007’s A Different Light).

QU, released October 2009, is the band’s third full length and is arguably Sherwood’s most mature and accessible yet, as its undeniable pop sensibilities showcase a band coming into its own and fully realizing its potential. Fans have noticed, as Sherwood’s MySpace page has logged an astounding 18 million plays, making it the third largest MySpace profile in the world.

Teaming up with producer Brad Wood ( Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins and Sunny Day Real Estate) in a rented Oakland apartment for nine months, the band amassed 85 songs that were eventually whittled down to 12 unabashed power pop songs that made the final cut.

Sherwood’s brand new music video for the song "You Are" will world premiere on MySpace Music on February 12. The video was directed by Long Beach hipster Matt Wignall who also produced music and videos for Cold War Kids.

Muse "Under Review" Coming to DVD March 23, 2010

This film looks at Muse's entire career, and by using rare performance and interview footage of the band, contributions from their closest colleagues and from those who have witnessed and written about their journey, plus seldom seen photos, news reports, scene shoots and a range of other features, creates the finest documentary to date on this extraordinary band, the music they make and the lives they lead.

Includes exclusive interviews with former manager Safta Jaffrey, legendary producer John Leckie, band engineer Ric Peet, video director Mat Kirby, official biographer and NME writer Mark Beaumont and many other close confidantes.

What turns a good band into a great one is usually just the right mix of downright dedication, damned hard work and a special kind of talent which allows for the creation of music that will touch multiple generations.

This is certainly the ingredient list which Muse have employed while creating a sound and image that has captured a fan-base larger than that of  just about anyone else around at the moment.

JET ANNOUNCE HEADLINING DATES CRASH KINGS TO SUPPORT

By Becca   Wed, Feb 03, 2010

JET ANNOUNCE HEADLINING DATES CRASH KINGS TO SUPPORT

Australian rockers JET have announced a run of headlining dates with support from The Crash Kings. The North American trek will begin in Toronto, ON on March 5 at The Opera House. In the midst of their third trip around the world to support their new album, Shaka Rock, the band will be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! later this month, as well as making a distinguished stop in Vancouver to perform at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. JET have been invited to perform on Wednesday, February 24 during the two-week long event at the Whistler Medals Plaza, among fourteen other top North American headlining acts such as Usher, OneRepublic, The Fray, The Roots and All American Rejects. Tickets for JET’s upcoming tour dates go on sale this Friday and Saturday with additional dates to follow. Tickets can be purchased at http://jettheband.com/.

The band recently finished an Australian trek with Green Day, in which two of the dates became the #4 and #8 highest grossing concerts in the world according to Billboard’s Boxscore.

With more than four-million albums sold worldwide and four Top Ten Modern Rock hits, JET recently returned to form with Shaka Rock, an album that parallels their smash, Get Born which produced hits like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hard Bitch.”  The new album closes the gap between the raw roots of Get Born and the grace and melody of Shine On (recorded just after the passing of Nic and Chris Cester’s father), which together went on to make JET an international band of style and substance.  Shaka Rock captures the charisma and energy of classic rock and roll with just enough punk swagger and contemporary flair to create something uniquely JET.

The Crash Kings deliver a unique brand of keyboard infused power-trio rock that creates a "big sound without guitar."  That sound is a hit at radio as their single "Mountain Man" off their self-titled debut is quickly climbing up the charts and making an impact with fans at their live appearances.  Fronted by brothers Antonio (vocals / Clavinet) and Michael Beliveau (Bass), along with Jason Morris' hard-hitting drums, the three musically accomplished members of the Crash Kings have been building a reputation as a must-see live act, quickly becoming renowned for their energetic and impassioned performances.

Jason Mraz Brings His Style and Sound to Players in a New Signature Taylor Guitar

By Becca   Tue, Feb 02, 2010

Jason Mraz Brings His Style and Sound to Players in a New Signature Taylor Guitar

San Diego-based troubadour Jason Mraz has spent the past thirteen years performing everywhere from local coffee shops to stadiums with his Taylor guitars. Along the way, Mraz has released three studio albums, several EP's and live albums including the recently released Beautiful Mess - Live on Earth DVD/CD.  Mraz's live shows have garnered critical acclaim around the world and his albums have earned multiple Grammy nominations. Late last year, his hit single, "I'm Yours", set a music industry record for the most weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. In early December, Mraz visited the Taylor factory to meet with the company's design team and to complete work on his own Taylor model, the Jason Mraz Signature Model (JMSM).

The JMSM is based on Mraz's go-to guitar, a Taylor nylon-string NS72ce, a guitar he says "nurtured a whole album's worth of songs" and in performances, "gave me a way to communicate with the audience without a guitar standing in my way. It felt like it was part of me, it was a part of the energy that I wanted to put out there." Crafted from a back and sides of Indian rosewood and a top of Western Red cedar, the JMSM includes key design touches provided by Mraz. The fretboard inlay, in Mexican cypress, features the phrase "Be Love" set below a design that features a triangle within a circle, which mirrors a forearm tattoo he got in July 2009. "I chose this symbol simply because I want to be whole in mind, body and soul," he explains. "I think that's a divine trinity there. What is 'Be Love' but cutting out the middle man. You don't have to have a certain someone to be loved. You don't have to have certain conditions to have love in your life. You can just be love. So, it's basically a practice of unconditional love, a practice of unabashed generosity."

Mraz's touch can also be seen in the soundhole rosette, which features one of the artist's passions: the zodiac. "I'm always looking into the cosmos to inspire me or to help me create my schedule, even for tours and for when I'm going to write and what I'm going to do," Mraz shares. "So, everyone can relate to this because your zodiac sign is going to be in the rosette somewhere, in the person you love, all the relationships in your life can be related to this...the rosette is here for us to put ourselves into the universe." The hand-inlaid rosette of the twelve signs of the zodiac is crafted from a Hawaiian koa ring, a background of bubinga, and Mexican cypress symbols.

The JMSM comes ready for both intimate venues and crowd-packed stadiums with the company's ES-N® pickup, in a hardshell case, with a certificate of authenticity signed by Jason Mraz. The JMSM model will be available at authorized domestic and international Taylor dealers in late spring.

CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN TO RELEASE TRANSYLVANIA

Creature With The Atom Brain is thrilled to announce that TRANSYLVANIA has been  released today, February 2nd via The End Records. Marking the band’s North American debut, Creature With The Atom Brain landed an impressive thirteen-date slot opening for Alice In Chains, which also kicks off tomorrow at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver.

Mixed by Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, Masters Of Reality) and including appearances by Mark Lanegan, TRANSYLVANIA showcases the band’s blend of psychedelia, garage rock, and hypnotizing grooves, while also combining African rhythms, making this album a striking standout from most contemporary independent music. Q Magazine gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and went on to say “long endorsed by Josh Homme, these Belgians’ stoner/psych credentials are impeccable even before Mark Lanegan and Chris Goss signed up for this sublimely lysergic release.”

Creature With The Atom Brain will also make their debut at this year’s SXSW, playing at The End Record’s showcase on Thursday, March 18th at The Ale House. More details to follow.

HELLOWEEN CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH THE RELEASE OF UNARMED - BEST OF 25TH ANNIVERSARY

By Becca   Tue, Feb 02, 2010

HELLOWEEN CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH THE RELEASE OF UNARMED - BEST OF 25TH ANNIVERSARY
The End Records, under exclusive license from Sony Music Entertainment Germany, is pleased to announce the North American release of Helloween's long awaited album UNARMED - Best Of 25th Anniversary, out March 30th.

Helloween, one of the most eminent melodic metal bands worldwide and - along with the Scorpions and Accept - Germany’s ultimate metal export, got their start exactly 25 years ago. A total of eleven headlining world tours took the band all over the globe, and their sensational show at the Monsters Of Rock in Castle Donington in front of more than 100,000 metalheads. Spectacular tours alongside Iron Maiden, Dio and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as their MTV Headbangers Ball US tour with Anthrax and Exodus remain unforgotten. Helloween have sold more than five million record! s and garnered 14 gold and 6 platinum awards globally, receiving two gold records in Germany. Now Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Sascha Gerstner (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass) and Daniel Löble (drums) have set out to prove that their great anthems ooze that special Helloween flair even with totally new arrangements.

UNARMED – Best Of 25th Anniversary is Helloween’s ‘thank-you’ to millions of fans old and new and will prove their exceptional position on the international metal scene. Instead of putting together a regular greatest hits compilation featuring their most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, the five band members completely rearranged the greatest melodies they had written in the course of their career to date. The album features Supercharge’s exceptional saxophonist Albie Donnelly, Hellsongs’s vocalist Harriet Ohlsson, pianist Matthias Ulmer, plus the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra and the choirs of! the Gregorian singers!

As a special surprise, Helloween have come up with ‘The Keeper´s Trilogy’ a stunning 17-minute medley of the songs ‘Halloween’, ‘Keeper Of The Seven Keys’ and ‘The King For A 1000 Years’, recorded in cooperation with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra and likely to send shivers of delight down the spine of every Helloween fan.

UNARMED – Best Of 25th Anniversary sees Helloween commemorate their 25th anniversary in their very own way. “We aren’t one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves,” says Weikath. “We wanted to say thank you in a special way to all our fans who have followed us through the past 25 years - to us, this album stands for an official celebration. We had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new ‘outfit’ and with new arrangements. Now we can’t wait to find out how our fans will react.”

UNARMED - Best Of 25th Anniversary Track Listing:
01. Dr. Stein
02. Future World
03. If I Could Fly
04. Where The Rain Grows
05. The Keeper's Trilogy
06. Eagle Fly Free
07. Perfect Gentleman
