Hanging Out With Drowning Pool...

I have been lucky enough to interview one of my favorite bands, Drowning Pool, several times in the last few months. Well, I decided to just hang out with them this time around and get a feel for how it really was on the bus with the band and they were gracious enough to play along. Here is my time spent with Drowning Pool. Usually what happens on the bus, stays on the bus...not this time! Well at least what I didn't edit out...

Be sure to check out Drowning Pool's CD's, FULL CIRCLE and LOUDEST COMMON DENOMINATOR and look out for their new CD that is currently in the works!

Getting To Know The Charm City Devils And You Should Too!

Getting To Know The Charm City Devils And You Should Too!

The Charm City Devils were Nikki Sixx's first band to be signed when he became president of Eleven Seven Music. They are a nitty gritty rock and roll band but, when we got to talk with them we found they felt humbled to be on the Cruefest 2 tour with such great bands. The Charm City Devils are the opening act on the main stage but they are a must see for all who make it out to Cruefest 2 and when they head out after Cruefest to keep promoting their breakout CD, "Let's Rock N Roll."

Grinding The Axe,

Grinding the Axe with Chris Caffery

Grinding the Axe with Chris Caffery

I remember the first time I heard Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  Another band I can thank my mother for introducing me to.  As you can imagine, after that initial listen, I quickly bought the first two CDs.  Soon after, I bought their DVD The Ghosts of Christmas Eve.  That was the first time I laid eyes on Chris Caffery.  I was drawn in by his captivating stage presence, his stunning voice and his commanding guitar playing, not to mention, he looks pretty darn good in a tux. smile

But Chris's musical arsenal does not end with TSO.  He is also and accomplished solo artist and a member of the band Savatage and has made numerous guest appearances for artists including Metal Church and Doro.  In this interview with Road Crew Magazine, Chris talks about his various projects as well as some background on how he began "grinding the axe".

Road CrewAt what age did you first pick up a guitar?

ChrisI think I first picked one up at the age of 5, I did not start playing until I was 11.

Road CrewDid you have formal training or are you self taught?

Chris Mostly self-taught, I did have a few lessons and I still have people teach me things all the time. Al Pitrelli, Alex Skolnick, they always teach me things I missed without formal training.

Road CrewWho has been your biggest influence?

Chris Hmm…there are so many. As a guitar player I would say Micheal Schenker and Criss Oliva. As a writer I would say Tony Iommi. As a singer probably Ronnie Dio, Bruce Dickinson and Alice Cooper! As a motivator, businessman and creator I would say Paul O’Neill.

Road CrewWhen did you break into the music scene?

ChrisI joined the band Heaven managed and produced by Paul O’Neill in 1986. That was my first professional gig and obviously very important step in my career.

Road CrewWhat type of equipment do you use?

ChrisRight now I am endorsing Dean Guitars, Engl Amps, Digitech Guitar processors, GHS strings, HBE Guitar effects, TKL Cases, Spectraflex Cables. I do own about 40 guitars from many different companies, Jackson, Gibson, Fender, Martin…lots!

Road CrewHow did the birth of TSO come about and have you been a part of it from the beginning? If not, when did you join TSO?

ChrisI was a part from the beginning because the core of TSO came from Savatage. We had the song Christmas Eve on the Dead Winter Dead CD and it received a lot of airplay on radio stations that you would never expect to play Savatage. From there Paul O’Neill came up with the concept for TSO to help sell that song and to also create a band with limitless creative possibilities. The rest is history.

Road CrewWhat are the differences between playing in a "rock band" like Savatage and a "rock orchestra" like TSO?

ChrisMostly in the way we dress and the audience! With TSO the crowd ranges from 8 to 80 and we are in tuxedos! Savatage has an audience that is more like 14 to 50 and we can sweat in t-shirts and jeans!!! Of course TSO hs the largest light show ever used in an arena so that is a big difference as well!

Road CrewHow does the writing process differ between TSO and Savatage and how involved are you in the writing for both?

ChrisI am a bit more involved with the Savatage writing process. They are not too much different actually since Paul and Jon do most of the writing. There is obviously a different sound for TSO. But in both cases Paul motivates us to produce the best music possible. That is the most important part of the process.

Road Crew:  How is Night Castle coming and when will the CD be released?

ChrisIt is finished, the CD is amazing, it will be out in October. It is a double CD and the second Non-Holiday CD from TSO!!!

Road CrewHow do you balance TSO, Savatage and a solo career?

ChrisWell, since Savatage has not been very busy it is not too difficult right now, but I don’t have a lot of free time. As TSO begins to play non holiday I am sure this will become very difficult!

Road CrewWhat was your first concert?

ChrisKiss and Judas Priest in 1979.

Road CrewOut of your own personal CD collection, what 3 CDs can you NOT live without?

Chris Black Sabbath Sabotage, MSG debut CD and Kiss Alive.

Road CrewWhat has been your strangest encounter with a fan?

ChrisWith or without clothes? Wink…I actually had someone tell me they thought I was Jesus once.

Road CrewWhat is a question that you haven't been asked by interviews that you wish they WOULD ask?

ChrisHmmm…I don’t know really I have been asked so many things. Maybe do I believe in UFOs…the answer is yes!!!

Road Crew:  What advice to you have for up and coming guitar players?

Chris Now is a great time for guitar because it is really coming back into the forefront of music. I would say set goals and don’t try to do too much at once. The instrument has endless possibilities. Find who you want to be as a player and work as hard as possible to get there!!!

I would personally like to thank Chris for taking time out of his busy schedule for this interview and be sure to add him on myspace and facebook and stop by his official website.

Chickenfoot Concert Review 9-16-09

What happens when you put Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith, Michael Anthony, and Joe Satriani together? Well you get the supergroup known as CHICKENFOOT. Chickenfoot is on their US tour right now and came to Houston and I was lucky enough to check them out.

Set List:

  • Avenida Revolution
  • Sexy Little Thing
  • Soap On A Rope
  • My Kinda Girl
  • Down The Drain
  • Bitten By The Wolf
  • Oh Yeah
  • Learning To Fall
  • Get It Up
  • Turnin Left
  • Future In The Past
  • Bad Motor Soccer
  • My Generation

I must say that this band has to be the most energetic band I've seen live! Sammy Hagar sounds on key all the time, Joe Satriani shreds the hell out of his guitar, Michael Anthony keeps the bass bumping, and Chad Smith hammers the hell out of the drums while throwing drum sticks left and right into the crowd through out the whole show. Before I get into the show I want to say that if you go check out Chickenfoot GET THERE EARLY for Davy Knowls and The Back Door Slam, They're amazing!

The band came out at 9:15 PM and played until 11PM which is an Hour and 45 Minute set. They came out like an ordinary band, no intro song or anything like that. They didn't bull shit around the whole night they just played Rock n Roll and they played it amazing. They play the whole album besides "Runnin' Out" and threw in two cover songs "Bad Motor Soccer" and "My Generation." Sammy Hagar if probably the most animated guy I've ever seen on stage and he was very interactive with the crowd and the band. Every song was played like on the album but they all ended with an intense jam in the middle or at the end of the songs.

If I could relive a concert it would definately be Chickenfoot for they are by far the tightest band I've ever seen perform on a stage. Highlight songs of the night were "Down The Drain", "Turnin Left", and "Get It Up." If you like to get memorabilia from your shows this is the band to see since there's guitar picks, tambourines, and drum sticks tossed left and right. Theres not alot to say about this show but that everything was perfect!

Megadeth-Endgame

Endgame is definately the return of Megadeth and their famous speed and heavy metal songs. This album is nothing short of excellent with the speedy guitar riffs and bad ass guitar solos. This album also is guitarist Chris Broderick's first Megadeth record to be recorded on after replacing Glen Drover 2 years ago.

The album starts off with a lovely instrumental "Dialectic Chaos" and then goes straight into my favorite track from the album "This Day We Fight!" We then get into "44 Minutes" which starts with a police radio requesting back up to a gun fight, The song is about guns and war. Megadeth is known for their political lyrics about war, government, and violence which is heard on this record. "Bite The Hand That Feeds" is a song that is based off the economy problems America is having but is another fav of mine on this record. The album has been getting great reviews by alot of websites and fans of the band. Slash posted on his twitter account "The New Megadeth is Fucking amazing!" Which is saying alot from a well known name in the music business.

Songs about nitro fueled funny cars, the economy, war and violence, and also a midevil torture device known as the "Head Crusher" this album is worth picking up at the nearest record store. You can find tour dates at megadeth's website for the Endgame Tour which will feature Machine Head and Suicide Silence and starts in November. Also the band will head out to Australia and Canada To have a co-headline a tour with Slayer.

"Endgame" is in stores now so pick it up whenever you can!

The Video For "Head Crusher" is out now and can be seen below!

Guitar Virtuoso CARL VERHEYEN To Release New Project

Guitar Virtuoso CARL VERHEYEN To Release New Project

“Carl is so overwhelming to sit in a room and jam with, let alone his playing on records and stage. You get the impression there is no style or territory he is unable to explore.” - Brad Paisley

"Carl is a true pro and a great player. He can do anything …Carl comes through with heart and soul and is an awesome musician." - Steve Lukather

Carl Verheyen
is releasing his new rock masterpiece on September 25 on Cranktone Entertainment via www.theconneXtion.com. Trading 8s is Verheyen’s tenth studio album to date and is an impressive musical collection that showcases his endless talents.

Trading 8s, which literally means trading 8-bar phrases with another soloist, raises the excitement level as each player is challenged to respond musically. “It was in this spirit - not the dueling or cutting session mentality - that I approached the making of Trading 8s,” explains Verheyen. “I chose heroes and old friends, mentors and inspirational icons, peers and trailblazers, to record these songs with me. That passion was there from the first note to the last and I believe we created the most inspiring CD I've done to date. I tracked with my road-tested touring band of bass player Dave Marotta and drummer Walfredo Reyes, Jr., with additional support on B-3 and piano from Jim Cox. And the result: I'm extremely proud of this record and the contributions from the soloists - Steve Morse, Joe Bonamassa, Rick Vito, Scott Henderson, Robben Ford and Albert Lee.

In his 40-plus years of playing the instrument, Verheyen has created a wildly successful, multi-faceted

career. In addition to his solo work, he has been one of LA’s elite “first call” session players for the past 25

years, playing on hundreds of records, movie soundtracks and television shows. As a member and

featured soloist of the British rock group Supertramp since 1985, Verheyen has played to millions

of enthusiastic fans in sold out arenas worldwide.  As the creative force behind The Carl Verheyen

Band, he has released an impressive and eclectic discography that showcases his endless talents

across a wide array of musical genres.

Trading 8s is a true rock record fused with the blues, as in the song “New Year’s Day” with Robben Ford. Some jazz fusion tones can be felt in “Highway 27” featuring Joe Bonamassa. The CD also includes a ripping version of The Beatles’ hit song “Taxman” as you’ve never heard it before.

Vains Of Jenna "The Art Of Telling Lies"

Vains Of Jenna "The Art Of Telling Lies"

Vains Of Jenna are a kick ass sleazy and pure Rock N Roll band from Sweden and are back with their new album "The Art of Telling Lies" which is the follow up album to their first album "Lit Up/Let Down". The band was first introduced to the United States when they were asked to play their first show at the famous Whiskey A Go Go. The band has since gone on to work with Gilby Clark and are now under Bam Mageras record label Filthy Note.

"The Art Of Telling Lies" is an aboslute great album and has met its expectations or even better. With songs like "Get It On"(The band's first single from the new album), "Everybody Loves You When Your Dead", and even a cover of Tom Petty's "Refugee" the band is back and better than ever! The album is an absolute buy for everyone and anyone who is interested in new and pure Rock N Roll bands. While the album has the sleazy songs it even has the slower songs like "Paper Heart" and "Better Off Alone" which reminds me of some Motley Crue Songs.

The band consists of four kick ass musicians

Vocals-Lizzy Devine

Guitar-Nicki Kin

Bass-JP White

Drums-Jacki Stone

You can catch them on tour around the US now and later this fall they will be on tour with Dirty Penny. I say that everyone should catch them now and buy their albums. The New album is available NOW on ITUNES and you can also order the album HERE.

Def Leppard Extends Summer Concert Tour With Special Guest Cheap Trick

The hottest rock tour of the summer has just gotten hotter. Fifteen additional concerts, including seven in Canada, have been added to the critically hailed tour of the summer starring British rock legends Def Leppard, special guests Cheap Trick and Man Raze. Tickets in select markets go on sale beginning September 25 at LiveNation.com. Additional dates to be announced soon.

"We are really amazed by how well the tour has been received," said Def Leppard front man Joe Elliott. "Our fans have been absolutely fantastic. There's really no greater compliment than to be asked to keep on doing it so that's what we're going to do."

The tour's third leg will kick off in Reno, Nevada on Thursday, October 22nd. It highlights three decades of music from one of rock 'n' roll's greatest bands. MEAT LOAF TO HEADLINE FALL 2009 ROCK ’N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP IN HOLLYWOOD

MEAT LOAF TO HEADLINE FALL 2009 ROCK ’N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP IN HOLLYWOOD

With back-to-school season in full swing, Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp is giving music fans the opportunity to learn from some of the most influential artists in the industry.

Multi-Platinum, GRAMMY® award winning rock icon Meat Loaf will headline the November 2009 sessions. One of the most distinctive vocalists in rock history, Meat Loaf has sold over 70 million albums in a career spanning four decades. Bat Out Of Hell – the first album in his legendary trilogy – has alone sold more than 40 million copies, stayed on the charts for over nine years and routinely sells upwards of 200,000 copies annually. Meat Loaf, who has been recording a new album with producer Rob Cavallo (Dave Matthews Band, Green Day), will share some of his wisdom with those attending Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.  So is the singer nervous about teaching?  He told us. “Oh no, I’m not nervous.  I’ve been doing this 42 years, I know what I’m doing.  If I went to fantasy law school or fantasy science school, yeah, I’d be in trouble.”

Jon Anderson, lead vocalist for Yes, and lead guitarist Ace Frehley, a founding member of KISS, are two of the very special guest stars slated to appear at the November sessions and many of the camp’s favorite counselors will be returning, including Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), Mark Hudson (producer/songwriter, Aerosmith), Elliot Easton (The Cars),  Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Share Ross (Vixen) and Teddy Andreadis (Guns ‘n’ Roses). Ron Nevison, producer/engineer for The Who, The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd, will be a guest.

“Although I can’t mention him by name, I’m ecstatic to announce that we've secured a legendary guitarist from one of rock’s most renowned bands to come and jam with the campers this November – and perform live with them at the Whisky A Go Go on closing night," says David Fishof, Producer, Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp is offering several options designed to suit a wide range of budgets and schedules – from a three-day camp (November 12-15) and a five-day camp (November 17-22) to the special “Rock Legend” package, which will encompass both camps plus the Rock 'n' Roll Golf Experience. Fans can also sign up for the golf tournament only and campers may bring a spouse with the reasonably priced “Groupie Package.” Financing is available. See below for a recap of new packages that make Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy Camp more affordable than ever. The camp’s spring 2009 session with special guests Steven Tyler, Duff McKagan, Todd Rundgren and numerous other rock stars sold out, so campers are encouraged to sign up early.

“It was the rock 'n' roll family get-together, the elders of the tribe telling stories and dispensing wisdom, everyone working toward common goals. Truthfully, for this singer/songwriter, it was inspiring,” said an MSN Music editor/producer (who is also a musician) regarding the spring camp. You can check out the full feature at:

http://music.msn.com/fantasy-camp/story/feature/

Since 1997, Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy Camp has been giving individuals – regardless of their musical ability – a once-a-lifetime opportunity to live like a rock star and jam with their idols. From the opening night party at the Gibson Showroom in Beverly Hills, intensive rehearsals with rock star counselors and jams, master classes and Q&A’s with rock legends to recording an original song at the historic Capitol Studios with legendary engineer/producer Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix) and rocking the Sunset Strip’s Whisky A Go Go in a sold-out, closing night performance – it’s a dream come true for any music fan. Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy Camp has been covered by the “Today” show, “Good Morning America,” USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Travel & Leisure and was even featured in an episode of “The Simpsons.”

The first 2010 sessions are also on sale. Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp will return to Hollywood, CA over Presidents Day weekend (with a choice of February 10-15 or February 12-15) followed by a session at Abbey Road Studios in London, England May 25th – 31st. To register for any of the sessions or to learn more, visit http://www.rockcamp.com or call 1-888-762-BAND.

The Leftovers begin tour with The Queers in support of "Eager To Please"

The Leftovers begin tour with The Queers in support of "Eager To Please"

Portland Maine's most ambitious post punk act, The Leftovers, will be playing a ton of dates this fall in support of their latest release Eager To Please. They'll be supporting the legendary pop punk act, The Queers.

The Leftovers recent full length Eager To Please was produced by Linus Dotson (of Hollywood) and features Kim Shattuck of The Muffs, Brett Anderson of The Donnas,Parry Gripp from Nerf Herder, Coz Canler from the Romantics and Jon Rubin of the Rubinoos.

"I knew that 'Eager To Please' was going to be a great album when I first heard the demos, but it wasn't until we got in the studio that I realized how amazing the songs really were," said Dotson. "Kurt Baker has a songwriting maturity that is way beyond his years and is able to channel classic artists like the Beach Boys, Elvis Costello and the Beatles, while still having a unique style all of his own.  The Leftovers' live show is simply mindblowing and they have a fun and endearing charisma that has been lacking from rock'n'roll for a long time!"

The Leftovers formed in 2002 and road tested a sound over 350 dates and two continents that successfully combines the classic vibe of The Beatles and the Beach Boys with the power pop of Elvis Costello, The Romantics and the Rubinoos, while keeping the upbeat energy of the Ramonesand The Queers. The Leftovers songwriting skills and powerful live show caught the attention of
Crappy Records as well as pop punk cult icons Ben Weasel (of Screeching Weasel fame) and Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout Records).

The Leftovers new label,
Crappy Records, was formed by label executive Carl Caprioglio, producer Linus of Hollywood and Bowling for Soup frontman Jaret Reddick, with the new label distributed by the Fontana/Universal label Oglio Records.

"The Leftovers are a freakin' breath of fresh air," said Reddick. "They are fun, fascinating and ROCKIN! And most of all, chicks dig 'em!"

The Leftovers are Kurt Baker (Bass/Vocals), Andrew Rice (Guitar/Vocals) and
Adam Woronoff (Drums).

The Who, The Mods and The Quadrophenia Connection

By   Wed, Sep 23, 2009

The Who, The Mods and The Quadrophenia Connection

There's barely any misinformation out there regarding the astonishing career path of The Who: the band formed 1964, were adopted as figureheads by the British mods, they continued through the 1960s and 1970s making extraordinary record after extraordinary record [with a couple of 'rock operas' thrown in for good measure], Keith Moon their madcap drummer died in 1978 - and then it all went a bit pear shaped. The remaining members haven't made a standout track since Moon passed on.

But as far as the Mod movement which had guaranteed The Who's early success, and the Pete Townsend composed musical depiction of that movement, Quadrophenia are concerned, the story has been twisted, complicated and  misunderstood, but remains endlessly fascinating. The band, the movement, the album, the second wave, the movie and now the 30th anniversary of the latter two, all make for a story that needs to be told in depth. That is exactly what this film does.

Using recently unearthed archive footage from the early movement, rarely seen performance and interview footage of The Who, plus expert contributions and comment from a panel headed by friend of Pete Townsend and the band's 'Mr Fixit' throughout their career, Richard Barnes, and featuring; mod experts Paolo Hewitt and Terry Rawlins; the ever delightful  owner of Acid Jazz records, DJ and broadcaster, Eddie Pillar; members of Mod revivalists The Chords and The Purple Hearts; Who biographer and 1960s expert, Alan Clayson and a host of others.

The film also includes a wealth of news reports, film and video clips, location shoots and much more, all set to a backbeat of music from the finest British band of the Mod era - The Who.

Includes tracks such as; My Generation, Anyway, Anywhere, Anyhow, Won't Get Fooled Again. The Real Me, Sea and Sand, Cut My Hair, I'm One, Bell Boy, 5:15, Love Reign O'er Me, plus cuts by Georgie Fame, Booker T and The MGs, The Jam , The Chords and numerous others.

This Day In Rock

Hello Friends and welcome to this hump-day edition of This Day In Rock. I hope your week is rolling along as smoothly as possible. Now, lets take that walk down musical memory lane.

On this day in 1957 "That'll Be The Day" becomes what would be the only number one hit for Buddy Holly and The Crickets.

Fast forward to 1967 ten years later when the doors would release "People Are Strange" (yes they are!) which would peak at 12.

In 1974 Elvis Presley decides to surprise his friends when he buys $100,000 worth of Cadillac's and Lincoln Continental's in Memphis his hometown.

In 1980 Bob Marley Collapses onstage and is flown to a nearby hospital where it is discovered that he has a brain tumor. He will live until the next may altho he was told he would only live one month.

On this Day in 1997 Soldier Field In Chicago Illinois is home to the start of the Rolling Stones Tour called Bridges To Babylon.

Well friends it looks like it was not much of an eventful day in the Rock N' Roll world. Don't worry I will be back tomorrow with more music history. So, until then...

PEACE!!!

Multi-Platinum Rock Band Breaking Benjamin Set to Release Fourth CD 'Dear Agony' on September 29th

Multi-platinum rock band BREAKING BENJAMIN (Ben Burnley, vocals/guitar; Aaron Fink, guitar; Mark James, bass; Chad Szeliga, drums) have completed their fourth album for Hollywood Records with long-time producer David Bendeth. The album, titled Dear Agony, is set to release on September 29th.

The first single, "I Will Not Bow," is Top 5 at rock radio, has scanned over 87,000 digital units in only 2 weeks and will be the featured song in Bruce Willis' upcoming action thriller, Surrogates, due out September 25th. The video which has garnered over 500,000 views was shot at the World Trade Center in NYC by director Rich Lee (Evanescence, All American Rejects) and features band performance as well as clips from the movie.

Dear Agony marks the third straight Breaking Benjamin/David Bendeth collaboration. The first two--2004's We Are Not Alone and 2006's Phobia--yielded spectacular results with each being certified Platinum. It also marks the first time that Burnley, the band's sole lyricist, collaborated with Jasen Rauch, guitarist of the Grammy-nominated band RED.

We Are Not Alone spawned a pair of No. 1 radio hits ("So Cold" and "Sooner Or Later") and sold 2.3 million units (albums and digital tracks). Phobia debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top 200, hit No. 1 on the Rock Album Chart and was one of the top 50 selling rock albums of 2006. It featured one No. 1 and two Top Five rock radio hits ("Breath," "Diary of Jane," and "Until The End") and sold 2.8 million units (albums and digital tracks).

The band, who have been off the road for the past two years, plan to announce their highly-anticipated Fall tour plans shortly.

Tommy Lee to Choose Best Corporate Band in America

By   Tue, Sep 22, 2009

Tommy Lee to Choose Best Corporate Band in America

Legendary drummer Tommy Lee of rock band Motley Crue is one of three judges chosen to pick the best corporate rock band in the upcoming FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands presented by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Lee will be joined by noted musician and author Jeff Carlisi and Making Music magazine editor-in-chief Antoinette Follett as judges at the ninth annual event, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The first music competition of its kind, the battle provides amateur, company-sponsored bands with the opportunity to step out of the conference room and celebrate their passion for making music. Eight qualifying bands from across the U.S. will take the stage at the Rock Hall, with the chance to earn the title of best corporate band. The event is also generously supported by Gibson Guitar.

"I'm happy to be part of this year's FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands," said Lee. "An amazing amount of talent exists across the country, and for people to come together in the workplace and express themselves in a different way proves what kind of power music has in elevating morale and bringing people together."

In addition to Lee's role as a judge at this year's Battle of the Bands, the Tommy Lee-fronted ensemble "Methods of Mayhem" is inviting fans to make music of their own and help record their upcoming album. Starting on October 5, isolated instrument tracks, or stems, will be posted on the Web site, http://thepublicrecord.com. Fans can download the stems and add their own musical ideas, including original recordings, song mixes, arrangements and more.

About the Judges

At the age of 17, drummer Tommy Lee teamed up to form Grammy-nominated hard rock band Motley Crue, releasing their debut album Too Fast for Love in November 1981. By the '80s, Motley Crue had released a string of albums, including Shout at the Devil (1983) and Theatre Of Pain (1985). However, it was Girls, Girls, Girls (1987) and 1989's Dr. Feelgood that catapulted the band into the mainstream. After nearly two decades of success, Lee took time away from the Crue to record a solo record and tour with his own band, Methods of Mayhem and with DJ Aero under the moniker of "Electric Mayhem." In 2004, Lee reunited with Motley Crue and their 2005-2006 "Carnival of Sins" tour, which included more than 100 arena dates in the U.S. alone, was ranked by Pollstar among the top five grossing tours of 2005. Motley Crue has since been on the road, recently concluding their "Crue Fest 2" tour this month. Lee is currently working on a new album with "Methods of Mayhem." He is also a published author of The New York Times best-seller "Tommyland" and a co-star on Battleground Earth, Discovery Planet's green environment-themed reality series.

Jeff Carlisi was one of the founding members of the rock band .38 Special and wrote or co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including "Second Chance," "Caught Up In You" and "Hold On Loosely." The band sold more than 14 million records and enjoyed worldwide popular and critical acclaim. Carlisi left the band in 1997, and is now one of the co-founders of Camp Jam, where he trains young musicians, and Camp Jam, Inc., conducting team-building workshops for corporations. Earlier this year, Carlisi released his book "Jam! Amp Your Team, Rock Your Business!," which shares a musician's insight into navigating the music industry.

Antoinette Follett is the managing editor of the AFM's International Musician magazine and editor-in-chief of Making Music, a lifestyle magazine for amateur musicians. To serve the growing community of musicians, Follett focuses on features and articles geared toward players from the intrepid beginner to the dedicated, experienced hobbyist--stories about amateur musicians, groups, and ensembles; learning tips and techniques; buying guides and gear reviews; book and DVD resources, and more. An expert in the field of the benefits of making music, at Bentley-Hall, Inc., where she is president, she has overseen marketing and communications projects for a number of companies in the music industry including Yamaha, Roland, and the American Federation of Musicians. Her expertise in marketing and music has led Bentley-Hall to work with the Percussion Marketing Council, the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, and RADD, the entertainment industry's voice for road safety. Follett also presents marketing seminars for the AFM and NAMM.

About the Finalists

From 34 entries, 18 amateur bands from across the country were chosen to participate in one of two semi-final regional competitions, and in the end, eight finalists were selected to vie for the top spot. The finalists of the Ninth Annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands include: "Aeroroot" from Frontier Natural Products (Norway, Iowa), "Manage This" from Symantec (Lindon, Utah), "Roland's Stones" from Chevron (Pascagoula, Miss.), "The S.A.P.'s" from Johnson & Johnson (Morristown, N.J.), "Slump" from Oceanside Glasstile (Carlsbad, Calif.), "The Mighty Electric St. Jude Band" from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.), "Strat 5" from Healthways (Franklin, Tenn.) and "The Weasels" from The Sunflower Group (Overland, Kan.).

FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands is a partnership between NAMM (the trade association of the international music products industry), FORTUNE magazine, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The national competition celebrates the positive effects of making music, which has been shown to increase employee morale and productivity in the workplace.

Left Lane Cruiser To Tour In Support of All You Can Eat

Left Lane Cruiser To Tour In Support of All You Can Eat

Fort Wayne, Indiana's Left Lane Cruiser will hit the road in October in support of their latest release All You Can Eat on Alive Records. The two-man band features Freddie J Evans IV (aka Joe) on slide guitar and vocals, and Brenn Beck (aka Sausage Paw) on big-ass bass drum, harmonica and a toolbox full of percussive gear. Evans provides the firey fingerpicking and husky vocals. For Beck, everything is an instrument: trash cans, washboards, paint trays, hubcaps, ladders, you name it.

Learning their craft by playing at house parties, at the corner streets of their home town, and rehearsing in a heatless garage, they have developed their personal take on the North Mississippi Hill Country sound. They have toured relentlessly, sharing the stage with artists such as
Black Diamond Heavies, T-Model Ford, and Bob Log III. They have also appeared at the infamous Deep Blues festival in River Falls Wisconsin in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

All You Can Eat is the latest release from the super blues duo. It showcases the band's high-voltage punk blues style they're known for and it is everything fans of their Alive debut expects and a lot more. A follow up to their acclaimed 2008 release Bring 'Yo Ass To the Table, this new album was recorded in Detroit at the infamous Ghetto Recorders, and produced by legendary Jim Diamond.

"Left Lane Cruiser plays North Mississippi style blues like a lot of blues bands do these days, they just play it louder and harsher than anyone else, and that includes the North Mississippi AllStars - their sound comes across big enough to fill a stadium." -
Blogcritics

"R.L Burnside, Seasick Steve, trash cans, hub caps, meth smoking two dollar pawn shop mics and all sounding as cool as that all sounds." -
Organ

"Left Lane Cruiser's high-voltage blues sound is downright nasty. Blistering electric slide guitar and leering vocals distill old-school Mississippi blues down to its rowdiest essence."

MUSICIANS INSTITUTE Awards Honorary Degree to Guitar Legend STEVE VAI

Musicians Institute awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree to legendary rock guitarist, recording artist, producer, and composer Steve Vai. The award was officially conferred during MI’s summer graduation ceremony held on September 18 at LA’s Wiltern Theatre.

After first achieving prominence as guitarist for the late Frank Zappa, Vai has gone on to win multiple Grammys, repeatedly top critics’ and readers’ polls, and earn gold and platinum records while becoming the personification of contemporary guitar virtuosity. His latest concert DVD, Where the Wild Things Are, is set for release September 29th on Favored Nations.

Describing why MI selected Vai for the honor (only the second awarded in the school’s history), Vice President of Education Beth Marlis said, “Steve Vai has not only inspired countless musicians around the world and played a major role in the evolution of modern rock guitar, he also embodies MI’s ideal of the artist-educator who combines relentless pursuit of his creative vision with a sense of responsibility for mentoring the next generation.”

Court Rules That Allman Brothers Band Action Against UMG Recordings Will Proceed

By   Thu, Sep 17, 2009

Court Rules That Allman Brothers Band Action Against UMG Recordings Will Proceed

Judge P. Kevin Castel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York recently ruled in favor of the surviving original members of the Allman Brothers Band -- Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe and former member Dickey Betts -- denying a motion to dismiss the case filed by defendant UMG Recordings.

"We are pleased that the Allman Brothers Band will now have the opportunity to show the court how badly UMG has treated the band and to finally receive a fair share of the many millions of dollars UMG has made from the band's work," said band manager Bert Holman. "The band made these classic recordings in the 1960s and 70s for its first record label, Capricorn Records. That label took advantage of the band's inexperience at the time, failed to pay royalties to the band members and Capricorn eventually went bankrupt from mismanagement. Polygram, UMG's predecessor, acquired the recordings out of that bankruptcy. By that time, these classic albums were already established hits and had recouped any recording expenses many times over. Polygram and its buyer UMG had nothing to do with the creation of these recordings, incurred no risk or cost, and never had to spend a dime marketing them or promoting the band. It is outrageous that UMG refuses to honor its contract with the band and pay a fair share of the money it receives when it licenses the recordings to third parties like iTunes and simply sits back and collects a fee whenever iTunes licenses a download."

Rather than pay the Allman Brothers Band at the rate specified for such licenses -- 50% of the revenues received by UMG for third-party uses -- UMG has paid the band at a much lower rate negotiated in 1985 for vinyl albums manufactured and sold by UMG through brick-and-mortar record stores. UMG also failed to fulfill its contractual obligation to renegotiate royalty rates and other terms three years after each release of a compact disc, or other product in a new format, featuring an Allman Brothers Band recording.

UMG filed a motion to dismiss the band's claims asserting that sales of digital downloads by third parties like iTunes or Amazon were identical to sales of vinyl records in record stores as defined in the parties' 1985 agreement and that a renegotiation in 1994 extinguished UMG's obligation to ever renegotiate royalty rates again. The court rejected all of UMG's arguments. Judge Castel ruled that the band's allegations about UMG's deals with the digital services, if true, were sufficient to present a valid claim for underpayment of royalties and noted that the court must analyze the terms of UMG's agreements with the various digital services to decide whether the band's allegations were true. Judge Castel also ruled that the 1994 renegotiation did not extinguish UMG's obligation to renegotiate rates for releases in new formats.

The case is now proceeding through discovery and is presently scheduled to go to trial in early 2010. The docket number in the Southern District of New York is 08-Civ.-7113 (PKC).

Bob Dylan To Premiere New Works at National Gallery of Denmark

By   Thu, Sep 17, 2009

Bob Dylan To Premiere New Works at National Gallery of Denmark

A major exhibition of Bob Dylan's paintings will open at the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst) in the autumn of 2010, it was announced today by the museum's Director, Karsten Ohrt. The exhibition will feature nearly 100 works, including the world premiere of 30 large-format acrylic paintings from the artist's forthcoming Brazil Series, as well as many original paintings from the internationally acclaimed The Drawn Blank Series.

According to Ohrt, "Bob Dylan's artworks are informed by the same constant compulsion to renew that characterizes his music. He doesn't seem satisfied with settling on one form of expression once he has perfected it, but is constantly experimenting and trying out new artistic techniques and styles."

While Bob Dylan has been a committed visual artist for more than four decades, The Drawn Blank Series casts a vibrant new light on the singular creativity of one of the world's most important and influential cultural figures. As Marisha Pessl wrote in the New York Times last year, "In Bob Dylan's extraordinary collection of paintings, we are given insight into the expressive, unvarnished way this artist approaches the world and reminded he is that rare person who can move effortlessly between music, word, ink and paint. . ..Yet again and again, he reflects life back to us with a truth and simplicity that defy words."

Chief Curator at the National Gallery of Denmark Kasper Monrad, who is organizing the exhibition, says, "Bob Dylan's visual artistic practice has only been discussed by art historians to a limited extent, so critical examination and interpretation are called for. Several of Dylan's images reveal an affinity for some of the modernist masters, not least Henri Matisse's works from the 1920s -- a link that is particularly interesting, given the unique collection of Matisse's earlier works that belong to the National Gallery of Denmark. The choice of motifs, the unusual expressivity and the existential tenor in Bob Dylan's works are testament to an imagery that is unmistakably his own."

In connection with the exhibition, National Gallery of Denmark will be publishing an accompanying catalogue featuring contributions by prominent Danish and international art historians.

The announcement of this new exhibition coincides with Dylan reaching remarkable new heights in his cultural impact and popularity. His latest, critically acclaimed album, Together Through Life, debuted at number one in numerous countries and was accompanied by sell out concert tours around the world. The artist recently announced a forthcoming holiday album, Christmas In The Heart, from which all of the artist's royalties will be donated to hunger relief organizations in perpetuity.

New Bruce Springsteen Book, "The Light in Darkness"

By   Thu, Sep 17, 2009

New Bruce Springsteen Book, "The Light in Darkness"

"With "Darkness on the Edge of Town" Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band took a stand at a time and place where everything was on the line," writes Vike Savoth in the foreword to "The Light in Darkness." "They were prepared to pay the price of hurtling headlong into rock and roll oblivion by walking away from the sound and look that took them to the heights of fame and fortune."

Often overlooked in favor of other classic Springsteen records, "Darkness on the Edge of Town" provided a much rawer and angrier sound than anything Springsteen had done previously. Coming at the end of a bitter, three-year legal battle with Springsteen's first manager, the album's darker sound was difficult at first for many fans and critics to grasp.

"I really had to listen to that album, hard, over and over again, to find where I could meet him, or really, where he was meeting me," writes Suzanne Scala. "This was when listening to an album meant lying on the floor, head between your speakers, dropping that needle over and over to play that song again and again. Skipping this one or that one, it's formulaic and tired, or is it? Play it again and realize, no, there's something different here."

Despite that, the album has grown on many fans during the last 30 years, with many finding comfort in it's difficult messages.

"The songs on "Darkness" spoke to me personally," said the book's editor, Lawrence Kirsch. "Yes, the mood is darker than previous albums, but not entirely without hope. "Darkness on the Edge of Town" is pure, energetic rock and roll and one of the best works that Springsteen would create."

Despite the album's darker tones, the accompanying tour was one the most raucous and energetic of Springsteen's career. With more than 200 photos, "The Light in Darkness" shows Springsteen at his peak, bounding across the stage, leaping from pianos and wading into the crowd. With the 1978 tour, Springsteen began a tradition of epic, three-plus-hour shows, something so incomprehensible to fans at the time that many, thinking the show was over, got up to leave at the intermission. As Springsteen turns 60 this year, he continues the tradition of epically long shows that outdo all other musicians.

"It was like lightning flashing through the darkness and the band was the thunder," writes Ron Wells. "I had never seem any performer so full of energy and joy. He was definitely on a mission. This was not just a gig for him; it was freedom and exhilaration personified."

Chronicling some of his most famous shows, such as the Agora in Cleveland, The Roxy in L.A. and San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom, "The Light in Darkness" brings to life some of the final concerts Springsteen would play in small venues.

"The book will give readers at least a small perspective of what we experienced in 1978," Kirsch said. "The connection and bond made between performer and audience during this tour set the stage for all future albums and tours to come."

More than 30 years later, the excitement and passion this album and tour invoke in fans has not diminished. "The Light in Darkness" brings to life the incredible connection fans have with this period in Springsteen's career, making it one book fans don't want to miss.

IK Multimedia GrooveMaker® iPhone app Scores Upcoming Fox TV Reality Show

IK Multimedia GrooveMaker® iPhone app Scores Upcoming Fox TV Reality Show

IK Multimedia is proud to announce that Emmy® winning film and television composer, Russ Landau, has been using IK Multimedia’s GrooveMaker app for iPhone/iPod Touch to score a US national Fox network TV show called “Seducing Cindy” currently in production for January broadcast.

GrooveMaker is a professional music application that can be used to produce high quality music soundtracks, by anyone in any place, with superb quality audio - high enough for network TV scores and beyond!

Quotes From the Interview on PlanetILL.com, by Elianne Halbersberg:
“If you have ever tuned in to CBS Show ‘Survivor”—and who hasn’t—then you have heard Russ Landau’s music. However, the reality show is only one example of his remarkable, multi-faceted career. Landau scores an ongoing assortment of television and film projects. He won the Emmy in 2008 for best theme song “Pirate Master” and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2009 from his alma mater, the University of Bridgeport.”

“Ten years ago, Landau began using IK Multimedia’s SampleTank as part of his studio software. In turn, the company introduced him to their GrooveMaker software, which became an integral part of his scoring work. Based on the success of GrooveMaker and the integration of software applications on iPhone, IK Multimedia—a leader in the field of advancing music software and technology—has just released their GrooveMaker iPhone/iPod app, which works in real time with audio loops at the touch of a finger. It, too, is proving a valuable tool for Landau, whose hectic schedule often keeps him on the road and in airports.”

The popularity of GrooveMaker has grown exponentially in a short amount of time! Since becoming available as a download from iTunes only a few weeks ago, the various versions of GrooveMaker have been downloaded over 160,000 times, and have been in the top list of Free and paid iTunes applications in every country, all over the world.

Here are quotes from Russ Landau on how he composed the soundtrack for the Fox TV show "Seducing Cindy" with GrooveMaker from his iPhone, while on an airplane:

“I needed to write a couple more music cues for ‘Seducing Cindy’ and decided to have a little fun experimenting with IK Multimedia’s new GrooveMaker iPhone app while on a flight back to my summer place in CT. So at 30,000 ft and about an hour into my flight, I plugged in my headphones to my iPhone 3GS  (switched to airplane mode) and opened GrooveMaker for the first time. After watching a bit of the included tutorial (help menu), I got busy checking out the included loops and sequences and chose an appropriate palette of sounds and building blocks for the sultry strutting cue I had in mind to create for the show. 20 minutes later, I had my first of several pieces assembled and mixed. Once I was back on the ground and at my cottage on the lake, I pressed the export button, which then brought up a link I was easily able to grab from my laptop. I downloaded my song mixes, and dropped them onto my FTP site for the show's editors to grab. Just like that!”

“It's always good to find new ways to be productive, especially in situations where you might not ordinarily be able. Instead of sitting through a movie I've already seen, I got work done and had fun doing it.”

“All of the GrooveMaker app selections have varied loops to choose from. I chose ‘House’ and ‘Drum 'N Bass’ to start out with. It's true that I tried the original GrooveMaker for Mac nearly a decade ago and did make some cues for the first seasons of ‘Survivor’ and ‘Fear Factor’. Again, it was matter of having a large body of cues to write in a short amount of time and it was a fun way to contribute to the coffers.”
.

There are 4 GrooveMaker applications already available on the iTunes store: FREE, House, Hip-Hop and Club, and 4 more to come soon for every dance music style, including a fully functional FREE version that you can download to start making music right away!

New Magical 3D Adaptation of the 1968 Classic Yellow Submarine

By   Sat, Sep 12, 2009

New Magical 3D Adaptation of the 1968 Classic Yellow Submarine
The Walt Disney Studios has made a deal with Apple Corps Ltd. to develop a new 3D performance capture adaptation of the 1968 hit animated film "Yellow Submarine" to be written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, it was announced today at the D23 Expo by Dick Cook, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. The film will be created by ImageMovers Digital, Disney's state-of-the-art performance capture animation studio operated in conjunction with Zemeckis and his partners, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, who will serve as producers on the project.

For this fantastic new voyage to Pepperland, Zemeckis will incorporate the 16 Beatles songs and recordings from the original motion picture licensed from Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC and EMI-Capitol Records, respectively. The songs include "All Together Now," "All You Need Is Love," "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "With A Little Help From My Friends" while combining his unique vision and style to bring this dazzling tale to life.

In making the announcement, Cook said, "This is truly an inspired collaboration, and a wonderful opportunity to revisit one of the most imaginative and memorable musical fantasies of all time. To be working with the amazing folks at Apple Corps, and to have Bob helming the sub is truly as good as it gets. With all those incredible Beatles songs and imagery, the spectacular vision of Bob and his pioneering team at ImageMovers Digital, and a classic adventure full of wit and action, we're sure that moviegoers are going to have a great time on this latest trip to Pepperland."

Zemeckis said, "'Yellow Submarine' is one of the greatest fantasy films of all time, and making this new 3D performance capture movie is a dream come true for me. With the latest advances in technology, we will be able to take moviegoers on a voyage unlike any other, and bring new excitement and dimension to Pepperland and the various sea worlds they encounter. I'm thrilled to be working with the good folks at Apple Corps and our partners at Disney on this epic retelling of one of my all time favorite films."

Jeff Jones, CEO, Apple Corps Ltd., said, "With The Beatles and Walt Disney Studios, we have a partnership between two of the best loved creative entities in the world. We're very excited about the magical fantasy that will result from this collaboration. The marriage of the music of The Beatles with the talent and technical wizardry of Robert Zemeckis and ImageMovers Digital should produce something very special. We look forward to working with Bob and his team on realising his new vision for 'Yellow Submarine'".

The original motion picture (released in the U.S. on November 13, 1968) based on the music of The Beatles was directed by George Dunning and featured the inspired art direction and design of Heinz Edelmann. The movie is set in Pepperland, an undersea paradise inhabited by music lovers who live in peace and harmony and are protected by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. That is... until they are threatened by the music hating Blue Meanies. It's up to John, Paul, George and Ringo to set off on a magical adventure in their yellow submarine and bring music and harmony back to Pepperland.

This Day In Rock

Hello friends and welcome to to This Day In Rock. Today is a day of reflection and remembrance. Please take a moment to remember not only the people who lost their lives that day, but also the people who have lost their lives after that day fighting the war on Terror. If you are religious then say a prayer, if not then just take a moment of silence out of respect to all who have died. I had thought about finding a tribute video and posting it. I just can't find one that is right for me to post. I am sure everyone remembers what they were doing that day and I won't bore you with that. My heart is heavy and I still get angry thinking about the cowards that took the lives of so many husbands, mothers, wives, brothers, etc. Don't forget the Policeman, Fireman, Emt's and everyone and anyone who was affected by that day. If I am forgetting anyone I SINCERELY apologize to anyone I have offended. Now lets take that walk down musical memory lane.

9-String Bliss: Taylor Introduces Ultra-Limited 35th Anniversary Model

As part of the company's 35th anniversary celebration, Taylor Guitars is readying the next set of what the company is calling "You Asked For It" models: guitars players have requested through the years that are first-of-a-kind for the company. The first to be announced is the XXXV-9: a 9-string guitar that blends the best of a 6-string and a 12-string into a richly toned hybrid model.

The XXXV-9 takes the clarity and familiar feel of a 6-string guitar and embellishes the sound with three additional strings, two of which are paired an octave higher, to add extra sparkle to the midrange tone. The 9-string will appeal to players looking for extra shimmer without compromising the fundamental focus of the bass strings. The XXXV-9 features a GS body shape with Tropical mahogany back and sides, a Sitka spruce top, and Taylor's Standard II soundboard bracing. Other appointments include a three-ring abalone rosette, a "35" anniversary logo between the 11th and 12th frets, and the company's Expression System® pickup, for high-fidelity plugged-in playing. Chrome mini tuners and buttons grace the rosewood peghead veneer, along with a mother-of-pearl peghead "Taylor" inlay.

The XXXV-9 comes ready to play with Elixir® strings and in a hardshell Taylor case, and includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Taylor Guitars co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug. The XXXV-9 will be produced in an initial run of only 35 guitars and offered at a suggested retail price of $4998. All 35th Anniversary models, including those yet-to-be announced, are expected to be available in North America in early fall and internationally late winter.

IN FEAR AND FAITH TO TOUR WITH IN THIS MOMENT AS PART OF THE REVOLVER MAGAZINE SPONSORED “A WINTER TO REMEMBER TOUR”

IN FEAR AND FAITH TO TOUR WITH IN THIS MOMENT AS PART OF THE REVOLVER MAGAZINE SPONSORED “A WINTER TO REMEMBER TOUR”

San Diego's IN FEAR AND FAITH is preparing to hit the road alongside In This Moment as part of the Revolver Magazine-sponsored “A Winter To Remember Tour” kicking off November 6 in Anaheim, California at Chain Reaction. The U.S. tour will hit 28 cities before winding down December 17 in Las Vegas.

IN FEAR AND FAITH is currently on tour supporting the band A Day To Remember. That tour runs through October 17 finishing off in Ocala, Florida.

IN FEAR AND FAITH, a sextet consisting of singers Cody Anderson and Scott Barnes, guitarists Ramin Niroomand and Noah Slifka, bassist Tyler Mcelhaney, and drummer Mehdi Niroomand, has been hard at work touring and making a name for itself since Day One. The band’s self-released EP has sold over 30,000 songs on iTunes and its current Rise Records release, Your World On Fire, has already sold over well over 15,000 copies since its release earlier this year.

The band’s non-stop touring over the past year includes runs with A Skylit Drive, Emarosa, Attack Attack!, and Sky Eats Airplane, helping to build a growing and dedicated fan base.

While playing in Tampa, Craig Owens of Chiodos happened to be at the show and was so impressed with the band’s stellar live show that he asked to do guest vocals on the band’s new release. So, Rise Records flew Craig to the studio and he laid down some amazing guest vocals on the track “The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions.” Craig will also appear in the band’s music video for the song.

Nimbit Launches MyStore™ for Facebook: Delivering First Direct-To-Fan Social Commerce Platform for the Music Industry

By   Wed, Sep 09, 2009

Nimbit Launches MyStore™ for Facebook: Delivering First Direct-To-Fan Social Commerce Platform for the Music Industry

Nimbit (www.nimbit.com), the leader in Direct-to-Fan music marketing and commerce, today launched Nimbit MyStore™ for Facebook, the first Direct-to-Fan social commerce solution that provides musicians, managers, and labels with the ability to easily market and sell their music, merchandise and eTickets directly within their Facebook communities.

"Nimbit MyStore for Facebook merges the best that social networking has to offer with Nimbit's Direct-to-Fan music business platform used by thousands of artists," said Patrick Faucher, Nimbit's Chief Artist Advocate and CEO. "We've integrated deeply into the social fabric of Facebook so artists can market and sell to their fans in a completely natural and seamless way."

Until now, artist communities on Facebook allowed for fan interaction only, without direct commerce capability. Fans wishing to purchase from an artist would be re-directed from Facebook to a third-party site such as iTunes, and artists would have no way to control the sale or track who bought and what they bought. With Nimbit MyStore for Facebook, fans never leave the artist's Facebook Page to purchase an item, enabling the artist to retain higher profit margins, maintain knowledge of what each fan buys, and maintain complete control over the artist's brand.

Nimbit MyStore for Facebook Features and Benefits:

Sell products directly on Facebook through a single shopping cart, accepting all credit cards and PayPal (Directly On Artists' Profiles and Artist Fan Pages):
o   Digital tracks and albums
o   CDs and DVDs
o   T-shirts, posters, other merchandise
o   eTickets, download cards, and more

Connect and Engage with Fans Online:
o   Fan interaction with Nimbit MyStore (comment, recommend, play, share, buy) is immediately shared with that fan's social network
o   Post and promote new releases, shows and tours
o   Conduct pre-sale promotions
o   Create targeted promotions and custom packages based on fan buying behaviors

Easy to Install and Use:
o   Installs in minutes (see 1 minute video tutorial at
http://bit.ly/3LPLnc)
o   Integrates seamlessly into Facebook for a known user experience

A Compete, Powerful Music Business Platform
o   Complete digital content and catalog management, and distribution
o   Complete physical warehousing, on-demand inventory management, and fulfillment
o   Any changes to your content or catalog is instantly updated on Facebook
o   Robust analytics to understand sales data and trends (who, what, when, where, and more), giving artists the ability to tailor personalized promotions to fan groups, plan tours in areas of strong support, and more

Direct-to-Fan Social Commerce

"What Nimbit has done is huge," said Dave Kusek, Vice President Berklee College of Music and co-author of 'The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution.' "Direct-to-Fan Marketing is the new model for the music industry and Nimbit MyStore provides a powerful way for independent artists and labels to leverage Facebook to their advantage. Nice!"

Nimbit MyStore for Facebook drives true viral social commerce. Fans naturally become immersed in promoting and marketing the music, merchandise and tickets of their favorite artists -- unleashing a radically new viral commerce dynamic. Every fan interaction with Nimbit MyStore (comment, recommend, play, share, buy) is immediately shared with that fan's social network - extending the artist's market reach exponentially.

Going beyond first-generation fan networking tools such as iLike, or music discovery sites such as MySpace or Spotify, the Nimbit/Facebook combination provides a complete solution for Direct-to-Fan monetization and viral marketing entirely within Facebook -- powering a new model for the entire music industry.

The New Ideal Vehicle to Release New Albums

With Nimbit MyStore for Facebook, artists have a powerful new launch platform. Artists can promote pre-release versions of new albums to their existing Facebook fan base, and then enlist them as a "virtual street team" to generate buzz and viral interest around the new release -- guaranteeing rapid and substantial sales. All sales through Nimbit MyStore on Facebook are tracked in real-time, and also are reported to SoundScan.

"People don't spend three hours a day watching their iTunes application window," said Nimbit co-founder Phil Antoniades. "This is game changing - the power of friends watching other friends shop and purchase provides a new level of viral recommendation to a connected, like-minded network."

300 Artists Launch Live Stores

At launch, more than 300 artists across a wide spectrum of genres are live with Nimbit MyStore on Facebook: from rising stars such as Chase Coy (
www.nimbit.com/FBChaseCoy ) and Bang Camero ( www.nimbit.com/FBBangCamero ) to legendary acts such as The Alan Parsons Project ( www.nimbit.com/FBEricWoolfson ) and Tom Rush ( www.nimbit.com/FBTomRush ). These artists are actively selling their music and merchandise directly to their Facebook fans from their Nimbit MyStores.

"Nimbit has really done a fantastic job with Nimbit MyStore for Facebook," said Dan Beach of Studio 8H. "We've set it up for my client, Tom Rush, and expect to add it to other client Facebook pages as well. This is by far the best application of its type I've seen. I heartily recommend it and am sure it will play an important part in online visibility and sales for the music community."

Pricing & Availability

Nimbit MyStore for Facebook is now available at no cost. Nimbit offers a simple revenue share model that allows artists to get started easily and retain high margins. To learn more, or to set up an account and establish a Nimbit MyStore for Facebook, visit www.nimbit.com/MyStore.

Lock 13 Set to Digitally Release "Inner Enemy"

By   Tue, Sep 08, 2009

Lock 13 Set to Digitally Release "Inner Enemy"

Mortal Music and MVD Audio are proud to announce the digital release of Lock 13 - Inner Enemy on September 8th worldwide.

Mixing both classic and modern metallic sounds - without sacrificing the importance of melody - the Birmingham, AL-based trio, Lock 13, are about to make major waves with their latest album, the digital-only release, Inner Enemy. Comprised of vocalist Jon Childers, guitarist Drew Hall, and drummer Brad Aaron, the band recently signed with the label Mortal Music - the label founded by Tim King (SOil) and Rob Such (Twelfth Gate, Chicago Powerfest).

"When I first heard Lock 13, I immediately thought of them as a band that makes timeless music," states King, SOil bassist and co-founder of Mortal Music. "This is such a rare trait in bands today, especially since trends go so fast, and disposable heroes are a dime a dozen"

Mortal Music quickly signed the band and King began working on songs with them to add to thier new album. Shortly thereafter, Lock 13 hunkered down at Bieler Brothers Studio with producer Tadpole (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Plain White T's). The album was then mixed by Ulrich Wild (Pantera, White Zombie, Deftones, Seether), and the results are sure to catch the ear of admirers of rock/metal fans, as evidenced by such standout tracks as "Can You" and "Faded."

The band has built a solid fan base in the south and has toured as far as Chicago and Los Angeles to spread their music. Having performed with the likes of breaking Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, and 3 Doors Down, the band plans to hit the road in support of the new release with dates to be announced soon.

Hardcore Punkers Common Enemy Return With Party Hearty Classic, "Living The Dream?"

By   Tue, Sep 08, 2009

Hardcore Punkers Common Enemy Return With Party Hearty Classic, "Living The Dream?"

DRP Records, Overdose On Records and MVD Audio are pleased to announce the release of Common Enemy - Living the Dream? for worldwide distribution on CD and vinyl on September 8th.

Don't you miss the days when real hardcore punk existed? In other words, when there was no hope of a mega-record deal and a cushy tour bus to rest your head in? In other words, you had to do it all for the sheer love of being an outcast and rubbing authority figures the wrong way. The Reading, Pennsylvania-based Common Enemy know exactly how you feel, and are set to unleash an avalanche of vintage hardcore punk in the form of Living the Dream?

The band - which has been slugging it out in one form or another since 1997 - debuts new singer Gary Critical on their latest disc, and as evidenced by such eardrum shredders as "Beer Bong" and "Warped in World 8," Common Enemy has found what seems like a long lost brother/fellow partner in crime.

Ever the road warriors (they're veterans of countless treks across the U.S. and Europe), Common Enemy just couldn't stay away from the road, and are already on tour in support of their latest blitz-fest.

Can't get Enough of Barry White

By   Fri, Sep 04, 2009

Can't get Enough of Barry White
Barry White's deep, mesmerizing voice, romantic rhythms and satiny late-night love songs elevated the singer-songwriter-producer into a global icon. In celebration of his phenomenal career, Hip-O/UMe in association with the Barry White estate will release Number Ones, his first-ever collection of No. 1 hits, on September 15, 2009, three days after what would have been his 65th birthday (Sept. 12; Barry died July 4, 2003). In addition, Unlimited, a 5-disc, limited edition, career-spanning, rarities box set, will be released October 27.

Number Ones brings together all of White's No. 1 hits as a solo artist and as leader of the instrumental ensemble Love Unlimited Orchestra plus his No. 1 production for his girl group Love Unlimited. Five bonus tracks that just missed the top spot and/or have become hip-hop sample favorites are also included.

White reluctantly stepped in front of the microphone to make his national recording debut as a solo artist in 1973. In just the next two years he scored four gold No. 1 hits: "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby" (#3 Pop/#1 R&B), "Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up" (Cash Box #1 R&B, Billboard #7 Pop/#2 R&B), "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe" (#1 Pop/#1 R&B) and "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" (#2 Pop/#1 R&B). At the same time, his classic "Love's Theme" from Love Unlimited Orchestra, on which he played piano in addition to writing and producing, was a #1 Pop/#10 R&B smash - making Barry White the only artist ever to have No. 1 hits with a vocal and an instrumental record in the same year.

The rest of the decade brought "I Belong To You" from Love Unlimited (#1 R&B), "What Am I Gonna Do With You" (#8 Pop/#1 R&B), "Let The Music Play" (#4 R&B), the gold-selling "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me" (#4 Pop/#1 R&B), "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness" (#2 R&B) and the jazzy "Playing Your Game, Baby" (#8 R&B). From his Love Unlimited Orchestra, there was the #1 Disco/Dance combo single "My Sweet Summer Suite" and "Brazilian Love Song."

Number Ones also includes "The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)," his 1989 gold-certified No. 1 R&B collaboration with Quincy Jones, Al B. Sure!, James Ingram and El DeBarge. White scored in 1991 with "Put Me In Your Mix" (#2 R&B) and returned to the top of the charts with 1994's gold-seller "Practice What You Preach" (#1 R&B), co-written by second-generation star Gerald Levert. Later in the '90s, Barry won a new audience when his music was used in the hit television series Ally McBeal. An additional bonus track is "Sho' You Right," one of his personal favorites that became a Top 20 R&B hit in 1987.

A rarities collection celebrating Barry's depth as a songwriter and producer, the 4-CD/1-DVD Unlimited box set presents tracks from when he stepped out with his own sound, with Love Unlimited in 1972, through his final studio album, the Grammy(R)-winning Staying Power, released in 1999. Highlighted on the CDs are extended and/or rare versions of his hits, never-compiled personal favorites and LP tracks, and rare BW productions from a dozen different artists, including Gloria Scott, Tom Brock, Love Unlimited, Love Unlimited Orchestra, White Heat and others. The DVD offers every video from his tenure on A&M Records ("Practice What You Preach," "Sho' You Right," "Come On" and eight more) and rare bonus clips, including a live duet with Luciano Pavarotti that has become a YouTube phenomenon; each clip has bonus commentary from Jack Perry, White's longtime friend, co-producer and musical director. Liner notes in the lavish packaging - including an essay and commentary by Barry White himself and by Perry, with additional notes from Quincy Jones - reveal the stories behind the songs and the man who made some of the funkiest, most romantic music of all time.

Jackson Browne to Launch Solo Acoustic Tour of U.S. on November 1

Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne will close out 2009 with a Solo Acoustic Tour in the United States. Browne's solo acoustic concerts--in which he accompanies himself, alternately, on guitar and piano--are perennial fan favorites. Featuring a different set list every night, Browne pulls songs from throughout his four decades-long career, takes requests from the house, and injects storytelling and repartee with the audience into the mix.

Browne's 2009 Solo Acoustic Tour kicks off with a November 1 show at the Forum in Harrisburg, PA. Currently, the tour wraps on December 7 in Des Moines, IA with a concert at the Civic Center. The complete schedule and the latest updates--as well as information on special fundraisers and seating--can be found online at www.jacksonbrowne.com. These are Browne's first solo acoustic dates since early 2008.

The magic of Browne's intimate solo performances can be experienced through two live albums recorded on previous solo acoustic tours in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia: the GRAMMY(R) -nominated Jackson Browne - Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 (2005) and Jackson Browne - Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2 ('08). Both albums are available on Browne's own independent label, Inside Recordings. In his four-star review of Vol. 2 for Rolling Stone, Anthony DeCurtis wrote, "Between songs, Browne speaks about his life and music with moving candor. . .This is Browne at his best, engaging his audience, his own experiences and the world around him, all in songs that will not lose their resonance any time soon."

The 2009 solo acoustic dates follow a full year on the road for Browne, touring with his band in support of his latest studio album, 2008's Time The Conqueror (also available on Inside). Bookended by legs in the U.S., the just-completed Time The Conqueror World Tour also traveled to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Europe. Produced by Browne and Paul Dieter, Time The Conqueror features ten original songs including "The Drums Of War," "Going Down To Cuba," "Just Say Yeah" and the title track. In a review for MOJO, Phil Sutcliffe wrote, "Browne delivers elegantly considered weight and truth. . .His grand yet unpretentious imagery shows why he's admired by such diverse peers as Springsteen and Randy Newman."

Browne's newest original song, "Here," is featured in the motion picture Shrink, serving as dramatic punctuation over the end title credits. Released July 31, 2009 from Roadside Attractions, Shrink stars Academy Award(R)-winning actor Kevin Spacey, and the cast also features Saffron Burrows, Jack Huston, Robert Loggia, Keke Palmer, Pell James, Mark Webber, and Dallas Roberts.

Since his acclaimed 1972 self-titled debut album, Jackson Browne has defined a genre of songwriting and performing that is charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. Two of his albums, Late For the Sky and The Pretender, are on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." He's been recognized with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004) and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (2007), with recent humanitarian honors including the John Steinbeck Award and the Chapin-World Hunger Year Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award. www.jacksonbrowne.com

VH1's Emmy-nominated documentary series "Behind The Music" returns to focus on some of today's top artists who have had a major impact on the music world, from rock to hip-hop to pop. In addition to the dramatic storytelling that made "Behind The Music" a worldwide hit, the series will celebrate the subjects as artists and will also feature originally shot verite footage of each artist, which will anchor each story in the present day. Starting on Thursday, September 10 at 10PM* with "Behind The Music: Lil Wayne," the series goes full throttle with the stories, footage, and music behind some of the most interesting, talented individuals in today's music.

"Behind The Music: Lil Wayne" Premieres Thursday, September 10 at 10PM*

The self-proclaimed "best rapper alive" is telling his story to VH1. Dwayne "Lil Wayne" Carter opens up about his childhood, his music, and his struggles, as he and the people who know him best describe his ascension from a poverty-stricken childhood in New Orleans to his reign as one of hip-hop's heavy hitters. A true hip-hop icon, Lil Wayne is candid in his discussion about the life that made him one of the most respected hip-hop artists in the industry, as he relays his first experiences with drugs, his introduction to Cash Money Records, and his amazing career highs.

"Behind The Music: Pink" Premieres Thursday, September 17 at 8PM*

Describing music as her one salvation, Alecia Moore aka "Pink" was determined to make it in the music industry, but on her own terms. After experiencing success with first album, "Cant Take Me Home" Pink decided to go against the grain and create an album that exuded her artistic liberation and established her as a thoughtful and insightful musician. She delivered "Missundaztood" with childhood idol Linda Perry, and the album would prove to be career-defining. In this episode of "Behind The Music," Pink talks about the childhood scars from her parent's divorce, her tumultuous relationship with motocross star Carey Hart, and her emergence as a prolific songwriter and musician.

"Behind The Music: Bobby Brown" Premieres Thursday, September 24 at 10PM*

At an early age, Bobby Brown discovered his natural gifts as a singer and dancer, and became a childhood star with R&B group New Edition. The group had early success, but experienced tension when Bobby began to rebel against the group's squeaky-clean image. After being kicked out of New Edition and independently establishing himself as the undisputed "King of R&B," Bobby spun himself into a fast life of drugs and women. Brown eventually married American Pop Princess, Whitney Houston and after an 11-year publically turbulent marriage the two divorced. Bobby Brown relays his life in the spotlight and all of the hardships and glories that he's faced as one of the most controversial entertainers in R&B.

"Behind The Music: Bret Michaels" Premieres Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 10PM*

Bret Michaels and his band of brothers left Pennsylvania with a rock-n-roll dream and a desire to taste the good life on L.A.'s notorious Sunset Strip. Drugs, booze, women and more women - anything and everything happened. A diabetic, Bret's self indulgence took its toll, but not even collapsing on stage could slow him down. The lifestyle also cost Bret a valued romantic relationship (he turned his heartbreak into the hit power ballad ("Every Rose Has Its Thorn"). After turning to alcohol and nearly losing his life in a severe car accident, Bret got a wake up call cleaned himself up and started a successful solo career and even dabbling in film production, writing and starring in 1997's "A Letter From Death Row." In 2007, he starred in his own reality show, VH1's "Rock of Love With Bret Michaels." Over the course of three plus seasons, Bret showed fans a different side of him and once again skyrocketed into a mainstream star, completing a long and turbulent road living in and out of the spotlight.

"Behind The Music: T.I." Premieres Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 10PM*

After an adolescence of crime, violence, and drugs on the tough streets of Atlanta, which led to jail time, "T.I.," aka Clifford Harris Jr. channeled his frustration and sadness into rapping. After a debut album that flopped, T.I. started to release mixtapes that later caught the ear of Atlantic Records execs and he was soon signed. After a short stint in jail for violating probation over drug charges, T.!. started to get his life on track and by 2006 his career took off. Then tragedy would rock his world forever. When a bar room brawl escalated into a shoot out, T.I. watched his close friend, Philant Johnson, die. Riddled with guilt, T.I. went into a tailspin and suddenly his life as a celebrity was filled with paranoia and threats against his life. To protect himself, he began collecting a vast array of weapons. In 2007, while attempting to buy another firearm, T.I. was set up in a sting operation and busted by federal agents. After escaping 30 years in prison, T.I. made an important decision to change his approach and has since become a mentor, reaching out to troubled youth and preaching against the very mistakes that he made. In this episode of "Behind The Music," T.I. describes the good and the bad of his life as a hip-hop superstar and how these experiences have helped him become the man he is today.

"Behind The Music: 50 Cent" Premieres Tuesday, October 13 at 8PM*

Curtis Jackson III, aka "50 Cent" grew up on the violent and drug-infested streets of Jamaica, Queens and parlayed his street hustle instincts into an empire, forming the G-Unit business enterprise. His road to superstardom wouldn't be easy. With gritty street rhymes, 50 Cent attacked the industry and his bad boy reputation grew as fast as his list of enemies up until he was almost cut down in May 2000 by nine bullets. Facing his moment of truth, 50 Cent persevered through intense physical pain, emotional self doubt and came back to the game even stronger. Teaming up with Dr. Dre and Eminem, his first two albums, Get Rich or Die Trying and The Massacre, were hugely successful. Now, an international celebrity with albums, product endorsements, and a clothing line, 50 Cent has lived through the worst in order to become one of the biggest hip-hop stars in music history.

Music fans can get more interview footage -- not seen on-air -- on VH1.com. VH1.com will launch three to four online exclusive interview clips per episode. All exclusive clips will launch online the morning of each episode's premiere.

"Behind The Music"

The series debuted on VH1 in August of 1997 and was originally created and produced for VH1 by Gay Rosenthal, George Moll and Jeff Gaspin who were responsible for many of the channels 200+ episodes of the series.

In conjunction with the premiere of each episode, 3-4 additional interview clips not included in the on-air version will be available on VH1.com and VH1 Mobile. For more information on VH1's "Behind The Music" visit VH1.com.

Nirvana's Legendary Never-Before-Released 1992 Reading Concert Set to Debut in November

Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and voted as "Nirvana's #1 Greatest Moment" by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana's historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK's Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock'n'roll. Now, fans will have an opportunity to own a pristine copy of that entire performance -- color-corrected video from the original film with audio sourced from the original multi-track masters. Nirvana Live At Reading will be issued in a limited edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition as well as DVD-only, CD-only configurations on November 3, 2009, followed by a 2 LP version on November 17, 2009.

While the show's centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn't be released until 2 years later on In Utero: "All Apologies," "Dumb," and in its first ever public performance, "tourette's." The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band's 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for "Blew," "About A Girl," "School," "Negative Creep" and first single "Love Buzz," and even further back to the mid-'80s for "Spank Thru." Other songs from the Reading set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: "Aneurysm," "Been A Son" and "Sliver." Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound -- "The Money Will Roll Right In" by Fang and "D-7" by The Wipers.

Only 2 of the 25 performances on the DVD have ever been released before.

ARJEN LUCASSEN of AYERON has NEW PROG ROCK PROJECT

By   Mon, Aug 31, 2009

ARJEN LUCASSEN of AYERON has NEW PROG ROCK PROJECT

Arjen Lucassen creates the new prog rock project GUILT MACHINE. The band releases ON THIS PERFECT DAY September 29th on Mascot Records USA. The album will be released in three formats. Regular Edition of CD in jewel case, Special edition of CD/DVD Digipak and a limited edition CD/DVD Digibook.

"In my view this is my best side project so far," explains Lucassen. "It comes completely from the heart, for it was written and recorded during a new inspiring phase in my life after my heavy depression. This, being an entirely new project, there were no expectations whatsoever, which enabled me to just let my inspiration guide me without any (outside) pressure."

As AYREON fans have come to expect from Arjen, the music of GUILT MACHINE ranges from dark and heavy to atmospheric and melancholic. But GUILT MACHINE introduces some new twists as well, particularly when it comes to the vocals. Rather than putting together an ensemble cast of vocalists from the prog, rock and metal scene, Arjen has enlisted the talents of a single alternative rock vocalist, Jasper Steverlinck.

How did Arjen get an alternative rock vocalist to switch genres and sing on a prog rock project? "In the beginning, it was hard to convince Jasper to sing on this album, because he comes from a completely different musical background," Arjen said. "He didn't even know what prog was, but we've made a believer out of him! What I admire about Jasper's voice, besides its beautiful clear timbre, is the emotion and credibility he puts into his performance and his enormous range. Because this project features just one singer I needed someone versatile enough to portray all of the different moods, and Jasper didn't disappoint. And he's a really nice and dedicated guy as well!"

For GUILT MACHINE, Arjen also chose to record with a different drummer, Chris Maitland (ex-PORCUPINE TREE). "Chris was the ideal choice this time, having both the power for the heavy sections and the subtle touch needed in the more atmospheric parts," Arjen said.

Rather than the explicit storyline you would expect in an AYREON release, the songs of GUILT MACHINE revolve around a central theme. Instead of looking outward into a world of fantasy or science fiction, the songs look inward, exploring the destructive psychology of guilt, regret and the darkest form of secret — the secrets we hide from ourselves.

"At first I asked my partner and personal manager Lori to quickly write scratch lyrics for one of the songs so I could record some guide vocals," Arjen said. "I was so impressed by what she produced that I asked her to write the lyrics for all the songs. I was unable myself to create the type of darkly enigmatic, open-ended lyrics I wanted for these songs, my specialty being sci-fi lyrics about sinister aliens. She definitely gave the songs an extra dimension with her lyrics, exorcising the demons we both had faced in the past few years. It's also no secret that I've always been a big fan of her melodic guitar style, so she also plays all the guitar solos on this album."

Despite these differences, GUILT MACHINE still has much in common with AYREON. The songs are mainly long, "epic" tracks that feature dynamic contrasts between softer, dreamy sections and powerful, heavy passages. There are intricate harmonies, complex rhythms, soaring melodies, and an eclectic selection of instruments — all what you'd expect from an AYREON release.

Support will be provided by HYPOCRISY, EX DEO, BLACKGUARD and SWASHBUCKLE (on select dates). Leaving no villager unharmed, the excursion -- which will begin on November 6, 2009 at Jaxx in Springfield, VA and conclude on December 5, 2009 at Irving Plaza in New York City -- will include a stop at the eclectic Anti-Pop Music Festival in Central Florida which plays host to indie acts from all over the world.

The "Tour From Afar" will be HYPOCRISY's first tour for their highly anticipated new record, which is also their first release since 2005’s Virus. A Taste of Extreme Divinity will be released on November 3, 2009 (in North America) via Nuclear Blast Records.

This will also mark the North American debut of EX DEO, the Roman themed super group led by Maurizio Iacono of KATAKLYSM. The group promises to bring a stage show you will never forget!

The folk-influenced progressive metal act BLACKGUARD are currently celebrating the release of their debut, Profugus Mortis. Added BLACKGUARD vocalist Paul Ablaze:

"We had such a blast with our Finnish brothers ENSIFERUM on the Summer Slaughter tour that a second round seems appropriate. Magnified by the legendary HYPOCRISY and our friends in the Roman legion of EX DEO, this will be the show to see this late fall."

SUICIDE CITY Announces National Tour

By   Thu, Aug 27, 2009

SUICIDE CITY Announces National Tour
When SUICIDE CITY formed in NYC during the cold winter of 2005 by members of Kittie, Biohazard and Groovenics, a pretty big ripple hit the undergound punk and rock scene. Their debut EP Not My Year clocked in over 7,000 copies independently and made the media raise its collective eyebrow.

Four years later, that ripple has turned into a tsunami. Their debut album FRENZY (released earlier this month on The End Records) crashed on the media's desks and splashed all over their editorial. National city portal Metromix says, "not a single bit like 'Biohazard meets Kittie... the sounds created here are both unexpected and dynamic." Frantik Magazine raves, "Melodic in every piece of sense, even when the music gets tough like snakeskin, Frenzy somehow always finds its way back to the melody and groove, making for great songs." New York Post adds that "the band parties it up just as hard as metal bands do."

While initial wave of the album release may have leveled everything in its path, the band's most powerful impact - their live show - is yet to come. A tour has just been announced and the waves should be crashing into cities nationwide any minute.

Conceived when Biohazard vocalist/guitarist Billy Graziadei met Karl Bernholtz, vocalist of the south Florida band The Groovenics, Suicide City took shape with the addition of drummer Danny Lamagna (who had been recommended by members of Sworn Enemy), Groovenics guitarist AJ Marchetta, and former Kittie bassist Jennifer Arroyo. Becoming a unified and formidable force, the band toured with the likes of Otep, Taking Back Sunday, Gwar, Danzig, Life of Agony, Birthday Massacre, Mindless Self Indulgence, Despairs Ray, MXPX, Mushroomhead, and others, and gained a reputation for consistent and energetic touring and being able to keep up (if not outshine) the bands with whom they've shared the stage.

Karl sums it up best: “Suicide City thrives on making people happy and smile through our music without having to candy coat anything. Life does not ‘suck and then you die.’ Life is great, dangerous, exciting, strange, and then you die. I guess that’s what we’re trying to portray with our music.”

GameSoundCon Adds Rock Band Network Training Sessions to Los Angeles Conference Agenda

GameSoundCon Adds Rock Band Network Training Sessions to Los Angeles Conference Agenda

SoundCon, LLC announced today that it is working with MTV Games' Harmonix Music Systems, developer of Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band, to bring two days of training sessions on how musicians can create and publish original music in the Rock Band Network to GameSoundCon 2009 in Los Angeles. The Rock Band Network, announced in July, is a ground-breaking initiative that gives musicians, publishers and record labels the ability to author their original recordings into gameplay files and sell their music as playable Rock Band tracks through the newly created Rock Band Network Music Store.

The Rock Band Network training sessions at GameSoundCon, facilitated by Harmonix employees, will be one of the first live public sessions to demonstrate how musicians, record labels and publishers can author their original recordings into gameplay files for publication on the Rock Band Network. Once published and approved through a peer review process, tracks uploaded to the Rock Band Network Music Store will be available for download and purchase by millions of Rock Band players.

Training sessions will cover all aspects of getting your music onto the Rock Band Network, including how to create appropriate stem mixes, how to author songs using the Reaper tool, how to create a song package with Magma and how to audition your song before submitting your track. Further sessions will cover uploading your song for peer review, and publishing and promoting your song within the Rock Band Network. Besides the technical training on the custom tools, additional sessions will cover how to best map audio tracks to gameplay data in order to ensure a fun experience for players and even how to control crowd reactions and lighting during the performance.

"I'm incredibly excited to be able to add the Rock Band Network training to GameSoundCon," said Brian Schmidt, conference Director. "Authoring a track for play in a game like Rock Band requires specialized tools and skills, and to be able to learn directly from the handful of people in the world with this skill set and expertise is a truly unique opportunity. GameSoundCon attendees who sign up for the Rock Band Network training will be at a huge advantage when the Rock Band Network publicly releases these tools later this year."

GameSoundCon 2009 Los Angeles will be held on September 24/25, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

In order to accommodate the new training sessions, the early-bird registration discount for GameSoundCon Los Angeles will be extended until Sept 8.

In addition to the new Rock Band Network training sessions, GameSoundCon features two days of seminars and panels on video game music composition, video game sound design, and breaking into the video game industry, focusing on the unique technical, creative and business challenges of creating music and sound for video games.
