pretty flakey
i was trying to shovel out of nearly 2 ft of snow the other day {{our snowblower has gone on strike}} and had my daughter's mp3 player cuz the batteries had died in mine i started to think back to when i was younger with my walkman nearly permenantly attached to my ears. some of the tunes she has is on there are Marilyn Manson's verison of "this is halloween", Drake Bell's "up peroscope", Ramones' "sheena is a punk rocker", Crue's " livewire" , and even James Michael's "inhale" just to name a few. like alot of us, music was and still is my escape. i see alot of that in her as well...she is very much a rocker. so anyhow, as i hauled snow over my shoulder like an episode of Green Acres, i was thinking about the one time in 1987 i had shoveled thru a blizzard much the same but only cuz i had my heart set on going to the local Caldor (back when Walmart and Target werent all over) i had finally saved up enough money from babysitting and i was determined to go buy Kiss "Crazy Nights" on cassette of course. my parents would not buy me tapes, however ironically they both worked in radio for many years, it was up to me to fund my own interests..in alot of areas..but thats for another story. anyhow, i had shoveled enough that once the blizzard subsided a bit i was able to get a ride to the store..looking back it was probably more due to the need for milk then my wanting the newest Kiss tape. i wasnt allowed to listen to some bands, somehow Kiss made the okay list, probably cuz it was a family full of fans...from my parents to my older step sister & brother. i had enough money to get a second tape that day but because i was with my stepdad i knew better..it would be confiscated right fast, so it would have to wait till a mall trip with my friend. which would suck because mush like Walmart, Caldor sold tapes cheaper then the Sam Goody's or Strawberries at the mall. anyhow, shoveling and listening to my daughter's musical choices, reminded me of shoveling and my musical choices, i listened to Crazy Nights so much that winter...as well as a few other tapes i managed to sneak in like "look what the cat dragged in" by Poison in dubbed form..something Lars would have me arrested for today..cuz my original had been one of the many taken and trashed by the nazi..err..parents i lived with. but i managed to get 'dubbed copies' by trading with a friend or a friend of a friend, till i could afford to buy them again..
the moral to my story..if any..i swore i wouldnt be sooo censoring of what my kids listen to..at the time of this story i was nearly 13, and alot of what i was being "protected" from was apart of my everyday life...looking back it is very odd to me..i just make a point of TALKING to my kids about EVERYTHING that needs to be talked about, instead of just pretending it isnt a factor in life...
anyhow, im off to go shovel out yet again...hopefully my batteries are recharged and i can listen to some Type O Negative this time, not that i minded ANYTHING on her player..she has pretty good taste..

Last time I tried to shovel snow, I nearly killed myself. It never dawned on me to bring the mp3 player along for entertainment. I think if I were listening to Type O Neg, I'd be in constant fear that something big and dark was gonna fall on me at any second, LOL!!
