This Day in Rock Thursday edition
Today's column will leave you Humming a Percy Sledge Classic for the rest of the day!
Welcome back friends to This Day In Rock. It's Thursday and this week is almost over. If you have made it this far you might as well say you have survived the week! Todays Column is shot but sweet so lets get to it.
In 1958 Buddy Holly received his Draft Notice. and like any good American he went for his physical. Buddy was turned away Because of poor vision and a stomach ulcer.
1966 had its Highs and Lows for Percy Sledge. After a relationship had ended he wrote "When A Man Loves A Woman" this song climbed the charts to the number one spot on the hot 100 charts and the R&B Charts. Its a song that you can't stop singing once you have heard it so beware!
In 1966 Ike & Tina Turner released "River Deep Mountain High" Their Producer Phil Spector had extremely high expectations for it. The song hit the charts and never made it past 88. This let down sent the producer into seclusion for almost two years.
